Laser Ablation (imaging) For Mapping And Determining Se And S In Sunflower Leaves.

Qualitative and quantitative methods were developed for selenium and sulphur mapping/quantification in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) leaves. The plants were grown for 50 days in a greenhouse, being divided into two groups, one irrigated with only deionized water and the other treated with a daily dose of 7.58 mg of Na(2)SeO(3). Leaves were collected during the growth period for directly evaluating the distribution of Se and S in these structures. For quantification analysis, pellets were produced from both CRM (100 and 1575a for Se and S, respectively) and the sunflower materials. The pellets were doped with 25 and 1200 μg g(-1) Se and 5 and 20 mg g(-1) S and analyzed by LA-ICP-MS. For accuracy purposes all the samples were also decomposed via microwave and analyzed by ICP-MS. To avoid polyatomic interferences Se and S were monitored as SeO(+) and SO(+) at m/z 96 and 48, respectively, (12)C(+) was used as an internal standard, and the ratios between SeO(+)/C(+) and SO(+)/C(+) were used for measurements. Statistic tests (t test at 95% confidence level) confirming good agreement between LA-ICP-MS and ICP-MS indicated the accuracy of this technique.562-

RESUMO Flávio de Carvalho foi um dos artistas brasileiros mais profícuos do século passado. Artista plástico, pintor, desenhista, cenógrafo, engenheiro e escritor, destacou-se também como dramaturgo e diretor teatral. Neste artigo, apresentamos algumas aproximações entre as ideias teatrais de Flávio de Carvalho e as ideias / conceitos de importantes encenadores europeus como Gordon Craig, Antonin Artaud; Adolphe Appia, com o objetivo de demonstrar que os projetos teatrais de Flávio de Carvalho estavam em consonância com grandes inovadores do teatro ocidental do século XX. Fine artist, painter, designer, engineer and writer, he also demonstrated value in dramaturgy and theatrical direction. In this article, we show some parallels between Flavio de Carvalho theatrical ideas and concepts present in important European directors such as Gordon Craig, Antonin Artaud, Adolphe Appia. Our target is to demonstrate that some Flavio de Carvalho ideas were in accordance with those directors and dramaturgy philosophers of the twentieth century. Diseño de un amplificador chopper de señales neuronales

En el presente trabajo de tesis se diseña un amplificador para ser utilizado como parte de un sistema de adquisición de señales neuronales. La topología elegida para el desarrollo fue la de cascodo plegado de una sola salida (single ended folded cascode), ubicando los moduladores chopper de manera que no haya limitación debido al ancho de banda. Debido a que este trabajo está enfocado a dispositivos implantables, se requiere de un bajo consumo de potencia, así como una pequeña área ocupada. A estos dos requerimientos se suma el de ruido, el cual es de gran importancia al ser esta la primera etapa del sistema. Se utilizó el software CADENCE para realizar distintas simulaciones que comprueban el correcto análisis realizado. Los resultados más importantes previo a la aplicación de la técnica chopper son: el ruido referido a la entrada de 2.92Vrms, con una potencia consumida de 36.78uW utilizando una fuente de alimentación de 3.3V, la ganancia de lazo abierto es de 102.1dB y la ganancia de lazo cerrado es de 45.88dB con un ancho de banda de 7.96kHz. Amparados, entre outros, nos pensadores Jacques Rancière, Hans-Thies Lehmann, Maria Tereza Kuhner, apresentamos algumas das principais ideias sobre as relações entre teatro, política e estética. A segunda parte do artigo é dedicada à questão do engajamento, pois se trata de um tema que teve forte presença no teatro brasileiro. Caffeine Supplementation and muscle damage in soccer players

The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of caffeine supplementation and intermittent exercise on the muscle injury markers in soccer players. 15 male professional soccer players completed a placebo controlled double blind test protocol. 45 minutes before exercise, participants ingested 5.5 mg.kg-1 body mass of caffeine (EXP, n=8) or placebo (CONT, n=7). The exercise was 12 sets of 10 sprints (20 m each) with 10 sec recovery time between sprints and 2 min between sets. Blood samples were collected before (PRE) and 48h after exercise (POST). Serum activity of CK, LDH, AST, and ALT were quantified. Serum enzyme activity was enhanced by exercise in both groups, without a synergistic effect of caffeine. The findings suggest muscle injury markers concentration increases after physical activities, but caffeine supplementation (as used in this study) has no influence upon muscle cellular integrity.O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da cafeína e do exercício intermitente nos marcadores de lesão muscular em jogadores de futebol. 15 jogadores de futebol profissional completaram um estudo duplo-cego placebo controlado. 45 minutos antes do exercício, os participantes ingeriram 5.5 mg.kg-1 do peso corporal de cafeína (EXP, n=8) ou placebo (CONT, n=7). O exercício consistiu em 12 séries de 10 sprints (com 20 m cada) com 10 segundos de recuperação entre os sprints e 2 min entre as séries. Amostras de sangue foram coletadas antes (PRE) e 48h depois do exercício (POST). As atividades séricas de CK, LDH, AST e ALT foram quantificadas. A atividade sérica de todas as enzimas aumentou em ambos os grupos, sem efeito sinérgico da suplementação de cafeína. Study of the snow melt–freeze cycle using multi-sensor data and snow modelling

The melt cycle of snow is investigated by combining ground-based microwave radiometric measurements with conventional and meteorological data and by using a hydrological snow model. Measurements at 2000 m a.s.l in the basin of the Cordevole river in the eastern Italian Alps confirm the high sensitivity of microwave emission at 19 and 37 GHz to the snow melt–freeze cycle, while the brightness at 6.8 GHz is mostly related to underlying soil. Simulations of snowpack changes performed by means of hydrological and electromagnetic models, driven with meteorological and snow data, provide additional insight into these processes and contribute to the interpretation of the experimental data

High-priority liver transplantation and simultaneous sleeve gastrectomy in MELD 32 end-stage liver disease: a case report with long-term follow-up

Background: Morbid obesity is a worldwide epidemic closely linked to Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), an ever more relevant indication for Liver Transplantation (LT). Obesity affects an increasing number of LT recipients, but the ideal management of these patients remain unclear. Bariatric surgery (BS) in LT setting is challenging but feasible, although the debate is still open about the best timing of bariatric surgery. Herein we report a case of high-priority LT and simultaneous sleeve gastrectomy (SG) in an obese young adult.Case report: A 45 years old man with morbid obesity (BMI 46 kg/m(2)) and severe NAFLD-related end-stage liver disease (ESLD) underwent simultaneous LT and sleeve gastrectomy (SG) in an emergency setting, due to a MELD score of 32. He had substantial weight loss during long-term follow-up and enjoyed resolution of diabetes and hypertension. At 4 years follow-up, he has normal allograft function with appropriate immunosuppressant blood levels and no ultrasound evidence of steatosis.Conclusion: In selected patients, combined LT and SG present several advantages in terms of transplant outcomes, weight loss and resolution of obesity-related comorbidities. In addition, it can be performed in the high-priority setting in case of severe ESLD with good results in the short-and long-term

NELSON WERNECK SODRÉ: UM HISTORIADOR MILITAR DE ESQUERDA NO LIMIAR DA RENOVAÇÃO CRÍTICA DA GEOGRAFIA

Este artigo tem como proposta central a produção de Nelson Werneck Sodré titulada Introdução à Geografia: Geografia e Ideologia e a sua inserção na década de 1970 para o processo de renovação crítico da Geografia. Esta obra propicia a leitura do cenário em que a ciência geográfica se encontrava. Esta produção werneckiana aparece com um caráter denunciativo de como a Geografia estava sendo usada, não só no campo da ciência como também do próprio Estado brasileiro da época, para legitimar processos econômicos, sociais e, sobretudo, geopolíticos. Assim, pode ser considerada uma Introdução à Geografia às avessas, pois, esta não se restringe à análise de caráter inicial para entender a Geografia. A reflexão é construída por meio do resgate biográfico do autor, de sua obra e o contexto histórico no qual foi produzida. Resgatar-se-á não somente um período da história da Geografia, mas, algo que é mais amplo: o pensamento geográfico
