Suaeda foliosa Moq. (Caryophyllales: Amaranthaceae) first record of the genus and species for Valparaíso Region, Chile
Indexación: Web of Science; Scielo.BACKGROUND: The purpose of this paper is to present the finding of Suaeda foliosa in El Yali National Reserve, Chile. With this finding, the southern limit of the distribution is displaced from the current position at 31° S, 300 km southward.
FINDINGS: In this work, we found this species on the banks of the Colejuda lagoon, 33° 45' S, which belongs to a body of hypersaline seasonal water found inside the protected area distinguished as a Ramsar site (No. 878). The determination of the genus and species was achieved by comparing with herbarium material deposited in the National Herbarium SGO Natural History Museum in Santiago de Chile. Once we identified the species, the collected material was deposited in the referred Herbarium (SGO 163975). pH, salinity, and conductivity of the water column and soil adjacent the three protected lagoons are compared, discussing the unique conditions of the lagoon Colejuda that may explain the presence of S. foliosa only in their environment and not in other water bodies.
CONCLUSIONS: It can be concluded that El Yali wetland system harbors the S. foliosa southernmost population of the Americas.http://ref.scielo.org/xv9yc
Emergence of a phonological bias in ChatGPT
Current large language models, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, have captured the
public's attention because how remarkable they are in the use of language.
Here, I demonstrate that ChatGPT displays phonological biases that are a
hallmark of human language processing. More concretely, just like humans,
ChatGPT has a consonant bias. That is, the chatbot has a tendency to use
consonants over vowels to identify words. This is observed across languages
that differ in their relative distribution of consonants and vowels such as
English and Spanish. Despite the differences in how current artificial
intelligence language models are trained to process linguistic stimuli and how
human infants acquire language, such training seems to be enough for the
emergence of a phonological bias in ChatGPTComment: 15 pages, 1 figure, corrected typ
Vicente Castellano and the plastic renewal in the second half of the twentieth century

Evaluation of the ecological status of natural lakes in Spain: overview of the works performed by the cedex for the implementation of the Water Framework Directive
This paper presents an overview of the work that has been done by the CEDEX for the implementation in Spain of the Water Framework Directive on water bodies belonging to the lake category. Firstly, the current national lake typology was developed according to the system B of Water Framework Directive: 30 types of natural lakes were defined according to 9 factors. Next, a selection of reference sites was done based on 9 criteria. After the contrast with River Basin Administrations, up to 70 lakes were selected as possible reference stations. Afterwards, an ecological assessment system has been developed for natural lakes, which includes a selection of metrics for biological, physical and chemical, and hydromorphological quality elements, and sampling and determination protocols. For all these metrics, reference conditions and ecological status class boundaries for each type of lake have been defined, based on the available data of the monitoring networks, scientific data, and expert judgment
