This paper describes the composition and distribution of Anisoptera and Zygoptera (Odonata) species of the upper Rio das Velhas in the municipality of Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. A total of 727 specimens of 40 species were collected near water bodies over a period of 23 months between 2015 and 2017. The families with greatest species richness were Libellulidae (13 species), Coenagrionidae (12 species) and Heteragrionidae and Aeshnidae (4 species each). Notable among the species collected were Perilestes fragilis Hagen in Selys, 1862, inhabiting well-preserved forests, Minagrion waltheri Santos, 1965, pertaining a endemic genus of Brazil and the recently described Heteragrion cauei Ávila-Júnior et al., 2017, and three species recorded for the first time for the state: Elasmothemis alcebiadesi (Santos, 1945); Erythrodiplax melanica Borror, 1942 and Erythrodiplax acantha Borror, 1942, the latter is considered Critically Endangered (CR) by the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red List

The asinine species play an essential role in the northeast region of Brazil in the income of the local families and consequently in the local economy. Due to a large number of locomotor disorders and a lack of professional care, an anatomical study of the distal forelimb region of the asinine was carried out in order to gather information to improve the clinical and surgical practice in this species, and to explain the less susceptibility to locomotor disorders compared to equines. The anatomical study showed that asinine has similar muscular characteristics already described for equines. Tendons and ligaments showed proper characteristics with different origin and attachment already described for equines, emitting tendons projections that improve articular insertion and better stability in its suspensory apparatus allowing a bigger safety during the movement in physic activities

Presenting EPIDOR: a Management Information System to support Pain Medicine/ Apresentando EPIDOR: um Sistema de Informação Gerencial para apoiar a Medicina da Dor

Research on the prevalence of chronic pain in the Brazilian population is still insufficient regarding the electronic recording of these data and their statistical analysis. Considering this scenario, the present article presents a web system for information management on pain management - EPIDOR -, which includes the collection of data from patients with chronic pain and the generation of  dashboards from the obtained data. The data collection is performed from two inputs: chronic pain registry from the developed information system and the construction of a digital device - the Digital Survey of Pain - to follow up on the treatment of a specific group of patients. The developed system is in the implantation phase in a regional hospital and the expected result is the mapping of the pain and its epidemiology at municipal level, besides the production of consistent data about the effectiveness of the current treatment

Recommendations of the neuroendocrinology department of the Brazilian society of endocrinology and metabolism for the diagnosis of Cushing’s disease in Brazil

Although it is a rare condition, the accurate diagnosis and treatment of Cushing’s disease is important due to its higher morbidity and mortality compared to the general population, which is attributed to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus and infections. Screening for hypercortisolism is recommended for patients who present multiple and progressive clinical signs and symptoms, especially those who are considered to be more specific to Cushing’s syndrome, abnormal findings relative to age (e.g., spinal osteoporosis and high blood pressure in young patients), weight gain associated with reduced growth rate in the pediatric population and for those with adrenal incidentalomas. Routine screening is not recommended for other groups of patients, such as those with obesity or diabetes mellitus. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the pituitary, the corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) test and the high-dose dexamethasone suppression test are the main tests for the differential diagnosis of ACTH-dependent Cushing’s syndrome. Bilateral and simultaneous petrosal sinus sampling is the gold standard method and is performed when the triad of initial tests is inconclusive, doubtful or conflicting. The aim of this article is to provide information on the early detection and establishment of a proper diagnosis of Cushing’s disease, recommending follow-up of these patients at experienced referral centers

Abarema cochliacarpos extract decreases the inflammatory process and skeletal muscle injury induced by bothrops leucurus venom

Snakebites are a public health problem, especially in tropical countries. However, treatment with antivenomhas limited effectiveness against venoms’ local effects. Here, we investigated the ability of Abarema cochliacarpos hydroethanolic extract (EAc) to protect mice against injection of Bothrops leucurus venom. Swiss mice received perimuscular venom injection and were subsequently treated orally with EAc in different doses. Treatment with EAc 100, 200, and 400mg/kg reduced the edema induced by B. leucurus in 1%, 13%, and 39%, respectively. Although lower doses showed no antihypernociceptive effect in the Von Frey test, the higher dose significantly reduced hyperalgesia induced by the venom. Antimyotoxic activity of EAc was also observed by microscopy assessment, with treated muscles presenting preserved structures, decreased edema, and inflammatory infiltrate as compared to untreated ones. Finally, on the rotarod test, the treated mice showed better motor function, once muscle fibers were preserved and there were less edema and pain. Treated mice could stand four times more time on the rotating rod than untreated ones. Our results have shown that EAc presented relevant activities against injection of B. leucurus venom in mice, suggesting that it can be considered as an adjuvant in the treatment of envenomation
