The present study entitled The Javanese People’s Attitude towards Sundanese Language aims to find out the Javanese people’s attitude towards Sundanese language and their reasons to have such attitude. This research is a case study which involved five Javanese people working in a catering service company in Bandung as the respondents of the study. Data were collected from observation, questionnaires, and interviews. To analyze the data, some theories were applied; the theory proposed by Garret (2010) was utilized to analyze the components of language attitude that determine whether the attitude is positive or negative, whereas the theory from Holmes (2001) was employed  to investigate the reasons why they have such  attitude. Based on the data analysis result, it shows that the respondents tend to communicate in Sundanese language in their daily conversation. It also can be seen from the percentage of Sundanese language they used (28.06%) indicating that it is higher than the percentage of Javanese language used (3.96%). Regarding to the respondents’ attitude towards Sundanese language, the findings refer that most of them have positive attitude due to their approval to use Sundanese language in their daily conversation. Keywords: Javanese, Attitude, Sundanese Languag

This dissertation shows how heritage-forming scenarios and media portrayals of the Algerian War have operated and been deployed in literature and cinema, as well as in films on the Web. Taking its methodology from both literary sociocriticism and intermedia studies, the study focuses on how the memory of events becomes confused with how the events are portrayed. The dissertation examines the role of the media that give form, material character, instrumentality and a kind of institutional recognition to depictions of the Algerian War and people’s memories of it, thereby helping to form and model recollections by making them perceptible and intelligible. How do the corpuses of Algerian War memories (of harkis, Algerian immigrants and pieds-noirs) respectively relate to the past from the standpoint of the present? Mediated by cultural vehicles like cinema and literature, these memories are described through pluralistic “enunciation sites” that nonetheless share common spaces (topographies) and eras (chronographies). The memories appropriate the faculty of memory in a similar fashion – through the narrative scenes of trials, encounters or return portrayed in literature or films. The first part of the study explores the relationship between history and memory, now that the conceptions and practices of those concerned are clashing with a new “remembering economy” in which groups who remember the Algerian War are demanding that their history be recognized and taught. Based on a chronological framework of the various periods in producing this enormous body of work over the past 50 years as well as on a critical review of international research on this war, the study takes due note of post-colonial conflict in France and considers certain writers as memory-bearers of the Algerian War and even exemplary post-colonial witnesses of it. The second, third and fourth parts of the dissertation deconstruct the heritage-forming narratives of three writers in particular and relate their narratives to other works in very different genres and media. The three writers, who constitute the primary corpus for this study, are Zahia Rahmani (Moze), Mehdi Charef (his tryptich of À-bras-le-cœur, 1962, le dernier voyage and Cartouches gauloises) and Tony Gatlif (Exils). This basic corpus is supplemented by a number of other works that together constitute a vaguely outlined series that provides perspective on both the commonalities and significant differences of each of the writers (Rahmani, Charef or Gatlif) in relation to the series. In conclusion, a third body of works is adduced as an often paradoxical contrast to the primary series

A contribution to linearity improvement of a highly efficient pa for WIMAX applications

This paper describes the design of a highly efficient and linear GaN HEMT power amplifier which may be used in WiMAX application. To improve linearity of highly efficient power amplifiers, a technique using diodes in the gate DC path was applied to TL and 2HT amplifier. This solution using diodes offers a good manner to improve linearity near saturation zone compared to the approach using only a DC gate resistor for TL (tuned load) case as well as for 2HT (second harmonic tuning approach). A 2.5 GHz 2HT power amplifier circuit was built, and measured data confirm the linearity improvement, particularly near saturation zone, as predicted by simulation, maintaining higher power performances. An output power of 36.8 dBm has been measured with an associated power added efficiency of 46.5% and carrier to third order intermodulation (C/I3) of 53.4 dBc. A 2HT PA also exhibits good performances across the full (2.3-2.7) GHz band. An output power ranging from (35-36.9) dBm with an associated gain of $12.9±0.9 and a power added efficiency ranging from (40-46)% are measured across the full (2.3-2.7) GHz band. Our acknowledgment to the financial support provided by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN) through projects TEC2008-06684-C03-01 and CONSOLIDER-INGENIO 2010 CSD2008-00068

Laparoscopic treatment of a vesico-vaginal fistula: A new approach

    Get PDF
Vesicovaginal fistulas (VVF) are among the most distressing complications of gynecologic and obstetric procedures. Management of these fistulas has been better defined and standardized over the last decade. VVF repair is most commonly repared with transvaginal approach. We report a case of VVF which was repaired using a laparoscopic approach. The fistula was a complication of a benign laparoscopic hysterectomy. We describe a novel technique for the treatment of VVF of supratrigonal location by intraperitoneal laparoscopic approach

Clear Cell Adenocarcinoma of Cervix: Radical Trachelectomy to Preserve the Fertility

Carcinoma of the uterine cervix is a common gynecologic malignant neoplasm all over the world. The most common histological type of malignant cervical neoplasms is squamous cell carcinoma [1,2]. Clear cell adenocarcinomas (CCAC) of the uterine cervix is a rare disease accounting for only 4% of all adenocarcinomas of the uterine cervix [3]. Primary CCAC of the uterine cervix is a rare neoplastic entity which occurs in young women exposed to DES in utero; primary CCAC without DES exposure in utero is extremely rare. Here we report a 23- years-old Spanish female with primary CCA of the uterine cervix with no maternal history of DES ingestion during pregnancy

Surgical technique for video endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy in vulvar cancer

Introduction: Inguinal lymph node involvement is an important prognostic factor in patients with vulvar cancer. Inguinal lymph node dissection allows for staging and treatment of inguinal node disease but causes morbidity and is associated with complications such as lymphocele formation, wound dehiscence, and infection. Video endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (VEIL) seems to be a new and attractive approach with lower morbidity than the standard open procedure. The objective of this study was to report our surgical technique for VEIL for the treatment of vulvar cancer. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated a case involving a 78-year-old woman with vulvar cancer who underwent bilateral VEIL. Findings: The operative time was 140 min, and there were no complications. After 3 months of follow-up, there were no signs of vulvar oedema, lymphedema, or lymphocele. Conclusions: In patients with vulvar cancer, VEIL is feasible in clinical practice. Additional studies with a larger number of patients and longer-term follow-up are needed to confirm the oncological efficacy and the possible reduction in morbidity of this new approach.

Surgical treatment of Paget’s disease of the vulva using Mohs micrographic surgery, followed by vulvar reconstruction using the “lotus petal” suprafascial flap

    Get PDF
Vulvar Paget’s disease is an extramammary manifestation of Paget’s disease, a cutaneous neoplasm that clin-ically appears as sharply defined erythematous plaques with irregular borders that usually affect apocrine gland-bearing skin. Extramammary Paget’s disease (EMPD) of the vulva can remain undiagnosed for years and could be associated with multifocal neoplasms. The current gold standard for the treatment of vulvar EMPD is surgical excision and the Mohs micrographic surgery is the preferred technique used in evaluating the margins of the specimen. The reconstruc-tion of the vulva using suprafascial flaps reduces hospitalization time and complications rate
