    Optimal design for a VLCC propulsion system based on torsional vibration analysis

    AbstractFor main engine changes, shafting torsional vibration of an exported VLCC tanker must be analyzed carefully. With the transition matrix method, the vibration models for the vessel with two different propulsion systems are made. The calculated results show there are forbidden rotated zones which are near to the vessel sailing speed, some necessary measures must be taken to make the forbidden rotated zones change in order that the vessel shafting system is to run safely in the long term instead of main engine changes

    Ex Perimental Study on Water Absorption of Coal Under Different Pressure Source Conditions

    AbstractIn order to study the effect of pressure on the water absorption capability of coal, the water injection experiments of two coal samples were done under different pressure source conditions and room temperature by using self-designed pressurized water device. The experimental results show that pressure has a positive effect on water absorbability; water absorbability gets large as the pressure increases; the earlier water absorbability of coal is rapid, and the water absorbability of coal displays a similar Langmuir-isothermal adsorption curve with the changes of time, and it has saturated water absorbability. The water injection pressure is higher, which not only strengthened the ability of expanding seepage space, but also developed the transporting water and storage water space. The later water absorption curve of coal becomes weaker, and water adsorption process is mainly influenced by capillary force. The pressure water only supplies provisions and time is the main influential factor

    Lactobacillus gasseri LA39 Activates the Oxidative Phosphorylation Pathway in Porcine Intestinal Epithelial Cells

    Intestinal microbial interactions with the host epithelium have important roles in host health. Our previous data have suggested that Lactobacillus gasseri LA39 is the predominant intestinal Lactobacillus in weaned piglets. However, the regulatory role of L. gasseri LA39 in the intestinal epithelial protein expression in piglets remains unclear. In the present study, we conducted comparative proteomics approach to investigate the intestinal epithelial protein profile alteration caused by L. gasseri LA39 in piglets. The expressions of 15 proteins significantly increased, whereas the expressions of 13 proteins significantly decreased in the IPEC-J2 cells upon L. gasseri LA39 treatment. Bioinformatics analyses, including COG function annotation, GO annotation, and KEGG pathway analysis for the differentially expressed proteins revealed that the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) pathway in IPEC-J2 cells was significantly activated by L. gasseri LA39 treatment. Further data indicated that two differentially expressed proteins UQCRC2 and TCIRG1, associated with the OXPHOS pathway, and cellular ATP levels in IPEC-J2 cells were significantly up-regulated by L. gasseri LA39 treatment. Importantly, the in vivo data indicated that oral gavage of L. gasseri LA39 significantly increased the expression of UQCRC2 and TCIRG1 and the cellular ATP levels in the intestinal epithelial cells of weaned piglets. Our results, both in vitro and in vivo, reveal that L. gasseri LA39 activates the OXPHOS pathway and increases the energy production in porcine intestinal epithelial cells. These findings suggest that L. gasseri LA39 may be a potential probiotics candidate for intestinal energy production promotion and confers health-promoting functions in mammals

    The Chance of Permanent Cure for Micro- and Macroprolactinomas, Medication or Surgery? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Background: This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the long-term efficacy of medication treatment vs. surgery treatment in patients with prolactinomas.Methods: An electronic literature search was performed using MEDLINE, EMBASE and Web of Science databases for studies dated before July in 2018. Patients with prolactinomas received primary dopamine agonists (DAs) treatment or primary surgical interventions were included in this study. A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed in pertinent studies meeting eligible criteria. The clinical outcome was measured by the long-term remission rate of prolactin (PRL) in each cohort. The pooled data was analyzed according to a random effect model.Results: Thirteen publications with total 809 patients were included in the final meta-analysis. In the overall patients with prolactinomas, long-term remission rate was achieved in 88% patients treated with surgeries and in 52% patients treated with DAs (P = 0.001). The long-term remission rates in surgery cohort were also significantly higher than medication cohort in both microprolactinomas and macroprolactinomas (91 vs. 60%, P = 0.002; 77 vs. 43%, P = 0.003).Conclusions: Patients with prolactinomas, especially microprolactinomas, can consider transsphenoidal surgery as an alternative first-line treatment strategy. After receiving primary surgical intervention, administration of DAs should be considered based on the postoperative PRL level to achieve the best long-term remission rate

    Cancer Stem Cells and Immunosuppressive Microenvironment in Glioma

    Glioma is one of the most common malignant tumors of the central nervous system and is characterized by extensive infiltrative growth, neovascularization, and resistance to various combined therapies. In addition to heterogenous populations of tumor cells, the glioma stem cells (GSCs) and other nontumor cells present in the glioma microenvironment serve as critical regulators of tumor progression and recurrence. In this review, we discuss the role of several resident or peripheral factors with distinct tumor-promoting features and their dynamic interactions in the development of glioma. Localized antitumor factors could be silenced or even converted to suppressive phenotypes, due to stemness-related cell reprogramming and immunosuppressive mediators in glioma-derived microenvironment. Furthermore, we summarize the latest knowledge on GSCs and key microenvironment components, and discuss the emerging immunotherapeutic strategies to cure this disease

    SIRT1 Promotes N-Myc Oncogenesis through a Positive Feedback Loop Involving the Effects of MKP3 and ERK on N-Myc Protein Stability

    The N-Myc oncoprotein is a critical factor in neuroblastoma tumorigenesis which requires additional mechanisms converting a low-level to a high-level N-Myc expression. N-Myc protein is stabilized when phosphorylated at Serine 62 by phosphorylated ERK protein. Here we describe a novel positive feedback loop whereby N-Myc directly induced the transcription of the class III histone deacetylase SIRT1, which in turn increased N-Myc protein stability. SIRT1 binds to Myc Box I domain of N-Myc protein to form a novel transcriptional repressor complex at gene promoter of mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphatase 3 (MKP3), leading to transcriptional repression of MKP3, ERK protein phosphorylation, N-Myc protein phosphorylation at Serine 62, and N-Myc protein stabilization. Importantly, SIRT1 was up-regulated, MKP3 down-regulated, in pre-cancerous cells, and preventative treatment with the SIRT1 inhibitor Cambinol reduced tumorigenesis in TH-MYCN transgenic mice. Our data demonstrate the important roles of SIRT1 in N-Myc oncogenesis and SIRT1 inhibitors in the prevention and therapy of N-Myc–induced neuroblastoma

    THE ECONOMY INTERPRETATIONS OF MORPHOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATION OF WORK-UNIT NEIGHBORHOOD IN CHINA: A CASE STUDY OF KUNMING (1960–2010)

    Proceedings of the XXV ISUF International Conference “Urban Form and Social Context: from Traditions to Newest Demands” (Krasnoyarsk, July 5–9, 2018)The work-unit residence is a residential mode formed under the special Chinese "work-unit system" during the period of the planned economy. Since the 1960s, a large number of residential areas have been built to solve the problem of accommodation. Selecting Kunming iron and steel plant in the six time nodes of 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010 and the six neighborhoods as the research sample, the author adopts qualitative and quantitative methods to have a comparative study of the six neighborhoods in terms of residential morphology like the plots and street system, block plan, building density, plot ratio, building scale during the six time nodes. The following conclusions can be drawn: the residential morphology only enjoyed minor changes in the first four time nodes, while that has changed gradually ever since 2000 and greatly ever since 2010. According to the concept of a morphological period from the Conzen School, the changes of physical space are closely related to politics, economy and culture. Therefore, the economy should play an important role in the transformation of the work-unit residential neighborhood. Based on the changes of work-unit residential neighborhood in the past 50 years, this paper analyzes the connection between the changes of the neighborhood form and the economy from the two following perspectives: the economic system which transforms from the planned economy to the market economy, and the structural transformation of the economy from the supply side to the demand side
