    Get PDF
Background: Gluteal artery pseudo aneurysm (GAP) is a rare entity, as gluteal arteries are well protected under muscles and fat of gluteal region. Gluteal artery aneurysms constitute less than 1% of all aneurysms and most of them are pseudo aneurysms.  The common etiologies of GAP  areblunt or penetrating trauma to gluteal region, infection, fractures of the pelvis or iatrogenic injury during surgical procedures on the pelvis or hips to intramuscular injection. The usual presentation is a pulsatile gluteal mass often confused with a gluteal abscess presenting 1-2 months after injury. However, at times it can cause symptoms due to compression of pelvic structures.Case Report: Our patient was a young boy who had injury to his right gluteal region with a tailoring scissor during a scuffle. He presented to casualty in shock with packing of wound done outside. After resuscitation his Computed tomographic angiography (CT angiography) revealed a psuedoanuerysm of inferior gluteal artery. He was immediately taken up for surgery a transperitoneal ligation of internal iliac artery of the involved side was done along with exploration of the gluteal wound. Conclusion: These patients of Gluteal artery aneurysms can be managed with both open and endovascular techniques. Our patient was unique in the respect that no GAP has been reported after stab injury with a tailoring scissor and ours is first case report in English literature .We want that the surgeons should keep in mind the possibility of GAP while dealing with even trivial injuries of gluteal region

Effect of Crystallization Conditions on the Metastable Zone Width and Nucleation Kinetics of p ‐Aminobenzoic Acid in Ethanol

    Get PDF
A detailed knowledge of the metastable zone width (MSZW) and nucleation kinetics is vital for the design of batch cooling crystallization processes. Factors such as cooling rate and impeller speed affect the MSZW and nucleation kinetics. Crystallization and dissolution temperatures were measured as a function of cooling rate and impeller speed during the batch cooling crystallization of p ‐aminobenzoic acid (pABA) from ethanol in a 0.5‐L stirred‐tank crystallizer. The polythermal experimental data were analyzed using the Nyvlt and first principles‐based Kashchiev‐Borissova‐Hammond‐Roberts (KBHR) methods. In all experimental cases, the latter model revealed that the nucleation process of pABA in ethanol was dominated by an instantaneous nucleation mechanism. The Nyvlt and KBHR analyses delivered a range of parameter values associated with a power‐law model describing the nucleation rate as well as the concentration of nuclei

The study was conducted to assess the effects of surgical caponisation on growth, carcass and some haematological parameters in cockerel chickens. Sixty (60) apparently healthy day old chicks were randomly distributed into two experimental groups (caponised and un-caponised) of thirty (30) cockerels each. The birds were caponised at the age of eight (8) weeks old and slaughtered at sixteen (16) weeks of age. The means of weekly weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio and final body weight in the two groups were not significantly different (p>0.05) except the mean of final body weight that was significantly different (p.0.05). The mean weights of carcass, eviscerated carcass, hind-limb and fore-limb of the two groups were significantly different (p.0.05) while that of the breast was not significantly different (p>0.05). The mean weights of the heart, liver and gizzard of the two groups were significantly different (p.0.05) however the mean weight of the kidney was not (P>0.05). All the mean values of Packed Cell Volume (PCV), Haemoglobin Content (HBC) and Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin Concentration (MCHC) in the two groups were not significantly different (p>0.05) however the White Blood Cells (WBC) was significantly different (p.0.05). It was concluded that the surgical caponisation of cockerel chickens at eight (8) weeks of age has significant effects on the growth and carcass traits (p.0.05) except on kidney (p>0.05) and has no significant effects on the haematological parameters (p>0.05) except on WBC (p.0.05).Keywords: Caponisation, Carcass, Cockerel, Growth, Haematological

Load forecasting plays a crucial role in the world of smart grids. It governs many aspects of the smart grid and smart meter, such as demand response, asset management, investment, and future direction. This paper proposes time-series forecasting for short-term load prediction to unveil the load forecast benefits through different statistical and mathematical models, such as artificial neural networks, auto-regression, and ARIMA. It targets the problem of excessive computational load when dealing with time-series data. It also presents a business case that is used to analyze different clusters to find underlying factors of load consumption and predict the behavior of customers based on different parameters. On evaluating the accuracy of the prediction models, it is observed that ARIMA models with the (P, D, Q) values as (1, 1, 1) were most accurate compared to other values

Then, available open-access crowd data sets for urban event detection are provided along with relevant application programming interfaces. In addition, an outlook on a support system for urban application is provided which fuses data from all the available pervasive technology sources and finally, some open challenges and promising research directions are outlined

Digital Design of Batch Cooling Crystallization Processes: Computational Fluid Dynamics Methodology for Modeling Free-Surface Hydrodynamics in Agitated Crystallizers

    Get PDF
A framework for the digital design of batch cooling crystallization processes is presented comprising three stages, which are based on different levels of process complexity, integrating crystallizer hydrodynamics with crystallization kinetics and consequently with expected crystal size distribution. In the first stage of the framework, a computational fluid dynamics methodology is developed to accurately assess hydrodynamics in a typical batch crystallizer configuration, comprising a 20 L scale dish-bottom vessel with a single beavertail baffle agitated by a retreat curve impeller, used in the pharmaceutical as well as in the fine chemical industries. The hydrodynamics of crystallizers with such configurations is characterized by vortex formation on the free liquid surface. It is therefore important to model the free surface using the Volume-of-Fluid (VoF) method. Comparison of the predicted mean velocity components with experimental measurements using laser Doppler anemometry reveals that improved predictions are obtained using a differential Reynolds-stress transport model for turbulence coupled with the VoF for modeling the gas-liquid interface compared with those using the Shear-stress transport model and with a flat liquid surface. This study demonstrates that an accurate treatment of the liquid free surface for capturing vortex formation is essential for reliable predictions of the crystallizer’s flow field. While the vortex depth is predicted to increase with increasing impeller Reynolds number, the dependence of hydrodynamic macroparameters, including power number, impeller flow number, and secondary circulation flow number, on Reynolds number reveals that they are essentially constant within the turbulent regime but fluctuate when the flow is in the transitional and laminar regimes as fluid viscosity increases

Investigation of counter-current mixing in a continuous hydrothermal flow reactor

    Get PDF
Temperature profiles have been measured inside a counter-current mixer for the continuous hydrothermal synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles, at conditions (10–25 ml min−1 superheated water, referred to a density of 1 g ml−1, at 350–450 °C and 24.1 MPa, mixed with precursors at 10–20 ml min−1) used in work published by some of the authors and others. The superheated water cooled significantly before meeting the precursors, owing to internal transfer of heat through the wall of the inner tube to the products flowing around it. Consequently, the region immediately after the fluids had fully mixed was at a lower temperature than that determined from an overall heat balance. The flow of superheated water emerging from the inner pipe was characterised using the relevant dimensionless groups (Reynolds, Froude)

    Get PDF
With the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), investigation of different diseases in healthcare improved, and cloud computing helped to centralize the data and to access patient records throughout the world. In this way, the electrocardiogram (ECG) is used to diagnose heart diseases or abnormalities. The machine learning techniques have been used previously but are feature-based and not as accurate as transfer learning; the proposed development and validation of embedded device prove ECG arrhythmia by using the transfer learning (DVEEA-TL) model. This model is the combination of hardware, software, and two datasets that are augmented and fused and further finds the accuracy results in high proportion as compared to the previous work and research. In the proposed model, a new dataset is made by the combination of the Kaggle dataset and the other, which is made by taking the real-time healthy and unhealthy datasets, and later, the AlexNet transfer learning approach is applied to get a more accurate reading in terms of ECG signals. In this proposed research, the DVEEA-TL model diagnoses the heart abnormality in respect of accuracy during the training and validation stages as 99.9% and 99.8%, respectively, which is the best and more reliable approach as compared to the previous research in this field.N/
