Compositional Time Series: Past and Present

    Get PDF
This survey reviews diverse academic production on compositional dynamic series analysis. Although time dimension of compositional series has been little investigated, this kind of data structure is widely available and utilized in social sciences research. This way, a review of the state-of-the-art on this topic is required for scientist to understand the available options. The review comprehends the analysis of several techniques like autoregresive integrate moving average (ARIMA) analysis, compositional vector autoregression systems (CVAR) and state space techniques but most of these are developed under Bayesian frameworks. As conclusion, this branch of the compositional statistical analysis still requires a lot of advances and updates and, for this same reason, is a fertile field for future research. Social scientists should pay attention to future developments due to the extensive availability of this kind of data structures in socioeconomic databases.compositional data analysis, time series

    Non Cooperatives Stackelberg Networks

Noncooperative network-formation games in oligopolies analyze optimal connection structures that emerge when linking represent the appropriation of cost-reducing one-way externalities. These models reflect situations where one firm access to another firm’s (public or private) information and this last cannot refuse it. What would happen if decisions are sequential? A model of exogenous Stackelberg leadership is developed and first-mover advantages are observed and commented.non cooperative games, network formation strategies, Stackelberg equilibrium.

    Get PDF
Legal profession represents a key labor sector whether in politics or business in any developed or underdeveloped country. What resources do lawyers use for matching the demand to their own services’ supply? Private sector lawyers make use of their level of human capital and their social capital for this to be accomplished. This work makes a literature survey focusing on legal profession and their relationships with these capital dimensions. Particular interest is given to the relationship of these capital forms and the effectiveness of professional performance.Human capital, social capital, legal profession

Course of infection with Lymphocystis disease virus in gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata)

Lymphocystis disease virus (LCDV) is the etiological agent of lymphocystis disease (LCD), a pathology that affects a wide variety of fish species. Data about LCDV pathogenesis are very short, and mainly limited to histopathological studies of skin lesions. Recent studies on viral genome detection (both by PCR or DNA-DNA in situ hybridization) suggest that LCDV establish a systemic and persistent infection in gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata), but further studies are necessary to prove if this infection is productive or not. In the present study viral quantification and viral mRNA detection (by qPCR and RT-qPCR) have been used to investigate LCDV multiplication in different organs of juvenile gilthead seabream. In addition, a histopathological study was carried out. Animals were collected from two commercial farms in Southwestern Spain. In one farm, where no LCD outbreaks have been recorded, apparently healthy fish were collected, whereas in the other farm, diseased and recovered (two months after LCD symptoms disappearance) fish were sampled. All the animals were LCDV-infected, and viral gene expression was detected in every organ analysed (caudal fin, intestine, liver, spleen, kidney and brain). In asymptomatic animals, both apparently healthy and recovered, a low-titre infection was observed, with the highest viral copy numbers detected in brain and kidney. In diseased fish, viral loads were significantly higher than in subclinical infected animals, being maximal in caudal fin, where lymphocysts were present in the dermis. Different histological alterations were observed in the internal organs from diseased fish analysed, although no hypertrophied cells were detected in any of them. In recovered fish, most of the organs examined presented similar histological features to those in healthy animals. Thus, pathological changes were only detected in the intestine and liver, although they were less severe than those observed in diseased fish. The results presented showed that LCDV establishes a systemic infection in juvenile gilthead seabream, which can be subclinical. In addition, although the disease is self-limiting, the virus is not removed after disease recovery, but produces a persistent infection.Universidad de Málaga. We analyze structural properties and visualization of a historical-data-constructed social network of the families with members in the Cabildo (city council) of colonial Buenos Aires. The data was obtained through the review of birth, marriage, and death records kept in various institutions and expanded from online genealogical sources. We find structural properties and visual presentations and also a link centrality analysis that shows that ritual relationship represents an important glue that held together with the network.

    Get PDF
The barite mineralization of Purroy (Zaragoza) is located in the Ordovician slates and sandstones, in the Structural Zone of Morata, the northern part of Unidad de Herrera (Eastern Iberian Chain). It is mainly composed of barite, quartz, goethite and hematite; fluorite and pirite with quartz and some Co-ore alteration minerals have also been recognized nearby. Although there is some filling-cavities barite, it occurs mainly in  NllOE veins, with an evident structural control; they present features of  contemporaneous mechanical deformation, related to prealpine distensive events. Barite occurs in a wide variety of aspects, very likely depending on the deposit conditions, and they bring out that at least some veins were filled in several stages, related with deformation events. Sr analysis in a cm scale shows an increase of Sr-content during the course of deposition; in a vein scale this pattern is alterated by mecanic deformations, disolutions and reprecipitations, related with a polyphasic deposit process. Analysis of trace elements suggest a geochemical influence of the environment on the formation of the barite deposit. Fe, Co & Mn are the most characteristic trace elements in this barite mineralization, and their patterns are partialy linked to barite precipitation conditions

Effect of Aging on Behaviour of Mesenchymal Stem Cells

    Get PDF
[Abstract] Organs whose source is the mesoderm lineage contain a subpopulation of stem cells that are able to differentiate among mesodermal derivatives (chondrocytes, osteocytes, adipocytes). This subpopulation of adult stem cells, called “mesenchymal stem cells” or “mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs)”, contributes directly to the homeostatic maintenance of their organs; hence, their senescence could be very deleterious for human bodily functions. MSCs are easily isolated and amenable their expansion in vitro because of the research demanding to test them in many diverse clinical indications. All of these works are shown by the rapidly expanding literature that includes many in vivo animal models. We do not have an in-depth understanding of mechanisms that induce cellular senescence, and to further clarify the consequences of the senescence process in MSCs, some hints may be derived from the study of cellular behaviour in vivo and in vitro, autophagy, mitochondrial stress and exosomal activity. In this particular work, we decided to review these biological features in the literature on MSC senescence over the last three years.

Injuries to the brachial plexus and subclavian and axillary arteries are uncommon and serious complications of shoulder girdle trauma, due to the close anatomical relationship between them. Neurovascular injuries are most frequent in penetrant lesions, but are are after a closed trauma. When neurological symptoms develop insidiously, some days to weeks after trauma, that should lead to the suspicion of a vascular injury. We report a delayed brachial plexus paralysis in a 39 years old male, who sustained an anterior dislocation of the shoulder ten days before. The DIVAS showed a pseudoaneurysm of the axillary artery and the EMG confirmed the brachial plexus palsy. Treatment consisted in surgical release repair of the vascular defect. One year follow-up show good clinical result
