On Asymptotic Hamiltonian for SU(N) Matrix Theory
We compute the leading contribution to the effective Hamiltonian of SU(N)
matrix theory in the limit of large separation. We work with a gauge fixed
Hamiltonian and use generalized Born-Oppenheimer approximation, extending the
recent work of Halpern and Schwartz for SU(2). The answer turns out to be a
free Hamiltonian for the coordinates along the flat directions of the
potential. Applications to finding ground state candidates and calculation of
the correction (surface) term to Witten index are discussed.Comment: 13 pages, Latex; v2: a reference added; v3: References to the papers
by M.B. Green and M. Gutperle are added. The complete calculation of the
Witten index for SU(N) matrix theory follows from combination of the results
of our paper with the results of M.B. Green and M. Gutperle and the results
obtained by G. Moore, N. Nekrasov, and S. Shatashvil
Complexity of the Havas, Majewski, Matthews LLL Hermite Normal Form algorithm
We show that the integers in the HMM LLL HNF algorithm have bit length
O(m.log(m.B)), where m is the number of rows and B is the maximum square length
of a row of the input matrix. This is only a little worse than the estimate
O(m.log(B)) in the LLL algorithm.Comment: 10 page

Mycobacterium microti at the environment and wildlife interface
10openInternationalItalian coauthor/editorAn unexpected high presence of Mycobacterium microti in wild boar in Northern Italy (Garda Lake) has been reported since 2003, but the factors contributing to the maintenance of this pathogen are still unclear. In this study, we investigated the presence of M. microti in wild rodents and in water and soil samples collected at wild boar aggregation areas, such as watering holes, with the aim of clarifying their role in M. microti transmission. In total, 8 out of 120 captured animals tested positive for the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) as assessed by real-time PCR, and six samples were confirmed to be M. microti. A strain with a genetic profile similar to those previously isolated in wild boars in the same area was isolated from one sample. Of the 20 water and 19 mud samples, 3 and 1, respectively, tested positive for the presence of MTBC, and spacer oligotype SB0118 (vole type) was detected in one sample. Our study suggests that wild rodents, in particular Apodemus sylvaticus, Microtus sp. and Apodemus flavicollis, play roles in the maintenance of M. microti infections in wild boar through ingestion or by contact with either infected excreta or a contaminated environment, such as at animal aggregation sitesopenTagliapietra, V.; Boniotti, M.B.; Mangeli, A.; Karaman, I.; Alborali, G.; Chiari, M.; D’Incau, M.; Zanoni, M.; Rizzoli, A.; Pacciarini, M.L.Tagliapietra, V.; Boniotti, M.B.; Mangeli, A.; Karaman, I.; Alborali, G.; Chiari, M.; D’Incau, M.; Zanoni, M.; Rizzoli, A.; Pacciarini, M.L
Typification of Celastrus senegalensis and C. europaeus (Celastraceae, Celastroideae)
The nomenclatural types of Celastrus senegalensis Lam., basionym of the current name Maytenus senegalensis (Lam.) Exell, and C. europaeus Boiss., basionym of M. senegalensis subsp. europaea (Boiss.) Rivas Martínez ex Güemes & M.B. Crespo (Celastraceae, Celastroideae), are discussed. A specimen preserved in the herbarium P, at the Museum national d’Histoire naturelle of Paris, is treated in this work as the neotype of M. senegalensis, and a specimen kept in the herbarium G, at the Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques of Genève, is design ated as the lectotype of M. senegalensis subsp. europe
