A first approximation to the inheritance of cotyledon storage proteins was studied in European sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) by evaluating the offspring of a controlled cross between two local chestnut varieties (Corriente and Pilonga) from southern Spain. The analysis was carried out in 15 polymorphic bands corresponding to the albumin fraction of the storage proteins. The relationship between bands displayed one case of allelism and four of linkage. These results should be considered as the baseline of the genetics of these proteins and suggest that they could be useful for the evaluation of the genetic variability in chestnut.
Nanosieves Fabricated By Interference Lithography And Electroforming
Self-sustaining Nickel membranes with periodic and regular distribution of pores, in the scale of hundred of nanometers, were produced by interference lithography and electroplating. The process consists in the recording of submicrometric 2D periodic photoresist columns, on a metal-coated glass substrate, using the double exposure of an interference fringe pattern. As the photoresist is a good electrical isolator, when the sample is immersed in a Ni electroplating bath, the array of photoresist columns impedes the Nickel deposition in the patterned areas. A nickel film is then growth among the photoresist columns with a thickness up to 80 % of the height of the columns. In order to release the submicrometric membrane from the substrate, a thick hexagonal Nickel sustaining structure is electroformed, using conventional photolithography. The dimensions of the sustaining structure can be adapted in order to fulfill the pressure requirements of the filtration system. The good uniformity of the pore sizes as well as the smooth of the surface make such devices very interesting for separation of particles by size in filtration systems.6037Sard Ghayeni, S.B., Beatson, P.J., Fane, A.J., Schneider, R.P., Bacterial passage through microfiltration membranes in wastewater applications (1999) J. Efectos del cannabis sobre la salud mental en jóvenes consumidores
anticonvulsivo, sedante, antidepresivo, etc.).
The biomass based electricity generation potential of the Province of Cienfuegos, Cuba
By 2013, the province of Cienfuegos in Cuba consumed about 5165 GWh of primary energy, of which an estimated 60 % was used to produce 767 GWh of electricity. 29 % of the primary energy was obtained from renewable fuel, and only less than 5 % of the biomass energy, was used to produce about 27 GWh of biomass based electricity. This study proposes and assesses opportunities to produce electricity from biomass in the sugar industry of the province. The scenarios considered include: upgrading the agricultural yield of sugarcane, producing energy cane and combusting it after the sugarcane milling season, combusting the filter cake, combusting marabu (Dichrostachys cinerea, a bush tree considered a plague in Cuba) after the sugarcane milling season, and updating the electricity generation technology. Results are given for the different scenarios and it is shown that a combined scenario, including upgrading agricultural yield of sugarcane, upgrading electricity generation technology, combusting filter cake, and producing energy cane to generate electricity after the sugarcane milling season, thus allowing to use the generation units in sugar factories during 8000 h per year affords a potential production of 1150 GWh of electricity, 50 % more than consumed in Cienfuegos province in 2013. © 2016, Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht
Experimental evidence of a cluster-glass transition on the colossal magnetoresistance manganite La0.7Pb0.3(Mn0.9Fe0.1)O3

The phenomenon is accompanied by a rise in intensity of a broad peak that appears at wave vectors of ≈ 0.025-1, and this is interpreted as a fingerprint of the onset of ferromagnetic ordering due to intercluster magnetic interactions. © 2005 The American Physical Society.Peer Reviewe
Water footprint from growing potato crops in Cuba
This article determines the water footprint from the potato crop in Cuba between the years 2009 and 2012 using the CROPWAT model. Climate, yields and fertilization data are specific to each of the areas where the crops were grown. The results are compared with previous works in other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. In the case of Cuba, the results show a difference of 25% with respect to international reports developed with data related to climate and average crops in the country. Other countries in the region have similar levels, although with a smaller gray component and a larger green component. The water footprint from potato crops is also compared with other crops in Cuba, finding that potatoes represent the fourth largest water demand.
Global Injectivity Of C1 Maps Of The Real Plane, Inseparable Leaves And The Palais-smale Condition
We study two sufficient conditions that imply global injectivity for a C1 map X: ℝ2 → ℝ2 such that its Jacobian at any point of ℝ2 is not zero. One is based on the notion of half-Reeb component and the other on the Palais-Smale condition. We improve the first condition using the notion of inseparable leaves. We provide a new proof of the sufficiency of the second condition. We prove that both conditions are not equivalent, more precisely we show that the Palais-Smale condition implies the nonexistence of inseparable leaves, but the converse is not true. Finally, we show that the Palais-Smale condition it is not a necessary condition for the global injectivity of the map X. © Canadian Mathematical Society 2007.503377389Andronov, A.A., Leontovich, E.A., Gordon, I.I., Maier, A.L., (1973) Qualitative theory of second-order dynamic systems, , Wiley, New YorkAmbrosetti, A., Rabinowitz, P.H., Dual variational methods in critical point theory and applications (1973) J. Spin-Parity Analysis of the Centrally produced KsKs system at 800 GeV
Results are presented of the spin-parity analysis on a sample of centrally
produced mesons in the reaction (p p -> p_{slow} K_s K_s p_{fast}) with 800 GeV
protons on liquid hydrogen. The spin-parity analysis in the mass region between
threshold and 1.58 GeV/c^2 shows that the (K_s K_s) system is produced mainly
in S-wave. The f_0(1500) is clearly observed in this region. Above 1.58 GeV/c^2
two solutions are possible, one with mainly S-wave and another with mainly
D-wave. This ambiguity prevents a unique determination of the spin of the
f_J(1710) meson.Comment: 6 pages, including 6 figures. LaTex, uses 'espcrc2.sty'. To appear in

The transfer of fibres in the carding machine
The problem of understanding the transfer of fibres between carding-machine surfaces is addressed by considering the movement of a single fibre in an airflow. The structure of the aerodynamic flow field predicts how and when fibres migrate between the different process surfaces. In the case of a revolving-flats carding machine the theory predicts a “strong” aerodynamic mechanism between taker-in and cylinder and a “weak” mechanism between cylinder and removal cylinder resulting in effective transfer in the first case and a more limited transfer in the second
