Dismissing appeals on formal grounds: The case of the Argentine Supreme Court

Las Cortes Supremas generalmente se debaten por encontrar un balance entre corregir errores de tribunales inferiores y ser el intérprete último de la constitución. El tiempo y recursos invertidos en corregir errores limitan la capacidad de ofrecer mejores interpretaciones constitucionales. Algunas cortes buscan racionalizar el proceso de apelación a través de la inadmisión de aquellas apelaciones que no hubieran cumplido con los requisitos formales establecidos. Nuestro estudio contribuye a la creciente literatura comparada sobre Cortes Supremas al investigar la duración de casos cuyas apelaciones contienen errores formales en la Corte Suprema de la Nación Argentina. Nuestro trabajo muestra que la inadmisión de este tipo de apelaciones no ha resultado en un manejo eficiente de los casos ni ha incrementado la cantidad de sentencias producidas por la Corte Suprema. Adicionalmente, el análisis multivariable muestra que ciertas características, como la materia subyacente de la apelación o el tipo de error formal cometido, afectan el tiempo que transcurre hasta la inadmisión de la apelación.High courts typically struggle to find the right balance between its error correction function and its final interpretation of constitutional clauses. The more time and resources spent in error correction limits the greater is the ability to offer improvements in constitutional interpretation. Some courts seek to streamline the appeals’ process by dismissing appeals which have not complied with certain formal requirements. Our study contributes to the growing comparative literature on High Court docket management by investigating the time to case disposition of appeals with formal errors in the Argentine Supreme Court. We show that this type of appeals’ dismissal has not resulted in efficient case duration or in an increase of CSJN’s output. Furthermore, the multivariate analysis shows that several case characteristics, such as the appeals’ subject matter or the type of formal error, affect appeal duration.Fil: Muro, Sergio. Guayangareo: la «Nueva Michoacán» contra el obispo Vasco de Quiroga y la búsqueda de una integración social en el siglo XVI

In the beginnings of New Spain, particularly in the middle of the sixteenth century, Bishop Vasco de Quiroga maintained a serious confrontation with the inhabitants of Guayangareo, who sought to obtain the name of Michoacán, which originally corresponded to the bishopric established by Quiroga based on Various Royal Cedars. The conflict, turned into a trial that would last several years, would show the interest of Vasco de Quiroga, for a social integration, between the naturals and the Europeans of New Spain.En los inicios de la Nueva España, particularmente a mediados del siglo XVI, el obispo Vasco de Quiroga mantuvo un serio enfrentamiento con los habitantes de Guayangareo, quienes buscaban obtener el nombre de Michoacán, que originalmente correspondía al obispado establecido por Quiroga con base en diversas Cédulas Reales. Performance, blood parameters, and carcass yield of broiler chickens supplemented with Mexican oregano oil

ABSTRACT - The objective of the current study was to evaluate performance, blood parameters, and carcass yield of broilers supplemented with Mexican oregano oil. A total of 162 one-day-old broilers were randomly distributed into three dietary treatments: control diet (without oregano oil or antibiotic); control diet + 0.25 g kg–1 of oxytetracycline; and control diet + 0.4 g kg–1 of Mexican oregano oil. Treatment with organ oil had positive effects on body weight at 35 and 42 days. Feed intake was significantly different at 21 and at 1-42 days; control treatment presented the highest feed intake at 28 and 35 days, while treatment with oxytetracycline had the lowest feed intake from 21 to 42 days. Weekly body weight gain was different at 42 days, in which treatment with oregano oil was the highest and control the lowest. Feed efficiency rate was significantly different at 42 and at 1-42 days; treatment with oxytetracycline and treatment with oregano oil had the best values over control treatment. Blood parameters were found different among treatments, in which treatment with oregano oil was the highest in cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein at 42 days. Carcass and blood biometric variables were not different among treatments. The amount of 0.4 g kg–1 of Mexican oregano oil in diets improves high-density lipoprotein, body weight, and feed efficiency rate of broiler chickens. Technological properties of maize tortillas produced by microwave nixtamalization with variable alkalinity

This research was conducted to determine the quality, physicochemical, textural, compositional, nutritional, viscoamylographic and sensory properties of maize tortillas produced with a Modified tortilla-making process (MTMP) of variable alkalinity (0.125, 0.25 and 0.5% Ca(OH)2 w/w) and compared to the commercial brand MASECA ®. In general, tortillas from MTMP showed higher pH, total color difference (ΔE), tensile strength/cutting force, protein, lipids, crude fibre, lysine, tryptophan, in vitro protein digestibility and lower Hunter L value, loss of weight during cooking and moisture content than MASECA® tortillas. No significant differences were found in the sensory analysis of 22 descriptors of tortillas made from MASECA® and MTMP with Ca(OH)2 concentrations of 0.125 and 0.25% (w/w). However, panelist identified principal effects on changes in four attributes (aroma, appearance, flavor, and after taste flavor) and seven descriptors in tortillas from MTMP prepared with the maximum lime concentration (0.5% w/w). Microwave nixtamalization produce tortillas with acceptable physicochemical, textural, quality, compositional/nutritional and pasting properties.Key words: Maize, modified nixtamalization, tortillas, technological properties

Sensibilidad y especificidad del registro de observación de variables asociadas con el lenguaje y su desarrollo (Rol)

[Resumen] Ante la falta de instrumentos que permitirían la evaluación rápida y sencilla de las dificultades del lenguaje infantil en el contexto escolar, en un trabajo anterior se diseñó a modo de prueba piloto un Registro de Observación de Variables Asociadas con L enguaje y su Desarrollo (ROL) en el que se incluyeron siete grandes áreas objeto de evaluación. L as áreas incluidas fueron aquellas que, en caso de alteración, podrían incidir directa o indirectamente en la aparición de dificultades en el desarrollo del lenguaje infantil. En el presente trabajo se trató de comprobar si el ROL resultaba un instrumento válido y fiable para la detección de dificultades del lenguaje en educación infantil. Para ello, se determinó la sensibilidad y especificidad del ROL a la hora de evaluar determinadas áreas similares a las evaluadas por la Prueba de Lenguaje Oral de N avarra Revisada (PLON-R). Para ello fueron evaluados 98 niños (54 niños y 44 niñas) de segundo ciclo de educación infantil. Los resultados indicaron que el ROL presentaba una elevada sensibilidad y especificidad respecto a tres (fonología/forma, categorías/semántica, órdenes sencillas/atención y reconocimiento visual) de las cinco áreas analizadas[Abstract] In the absence of tools for quick and easy assessment of child language difficulties in the school context, in a previous paper was designed as a pilot test a record to assess oral language which included seven major areas. Areas involved were those that, when altered, could either directly or indirectly affect the occurrence of difficulties in child language development. Repotenciación y planificación del mantenimiento preventivo del equipo de refrigeración para el cuarto frío de la planta de cárnicos de la Facultad de Ciencias Pecuarias de la ESPOCH

Se realizó la repotenciación de la cámara de enfriamiento y la elaboración de un plan de mantenimiento preventivo, del equipo de refrigeración para el cuarto frío de la planta de cárnicos de la facultad de ciencias pecuarias de la ESPOCH, con la finalidad de aportar en la realización de prácticas investigativas y elaboración de nuevos productos, mejorando la calidad de aprendizaje de la colectividad que se educa en esta facultad. La investigación realizada se contempló en las aplicaciones de la eficiencia energética, al diseñar un nuevo circuito eléctrico, con menor número de componentes, facilitando la manipulación y minimizando el tiempo del operador para poner en funcionamiento la cámara de refrigeración. Se determinó el estado de situación inicial y el plan de acción correspondiente de cada uno de los activos, este análisis se plasmó utilizando la norma UNE-EN 60300-3-11:2013. Obtenido el éxito total en el funcionamiento de nuestro activo, se realiza un análisis de criticidad, determinando al compresor como nuestro activo más crítico, al cual se le destinará nuestros mejores recursos (humanos, económicos y tecnológicos). También se realizó el plan de mantenimiento preventivo con el fin de prever y anticiparse a los fallos de nuestro activo en funcionamiento. Concluido el plan de mantenimiento, se realiza una evaluación del funcionamiento de todo el sistema, utilizando la norma COVENIN 2500-93, la misma que de una forma cuantitativa nos permite obtener una referencia de la condición de funcionamiento de nuestro activo, obteniendo como resultado 100% y de forma cualitativa nuestro sistema se encuentra en excelentes condiciones.The repowering of cooling Chamber and the elaboration of a plan of preventive maintenance of refrigeration equipment for the cold room of the plant’s meat from the Faculty of livestock Sciences of the ESPOCH, with aims to bring in investigate practices and developing new products, improving the quality of learning for the community that is educated in this school were performed. The investigation contemplated in applications of energy efficiency, to design a new circuit, with fewer components, facilitating and reducing the operator to operate the refrigeration Chamber. It was determined the status of initial situation and the plan of action of each of the assets, this analysis was expressed using the standard UNE- EN- 60300-3-11_2013. Achieving total success in the functioning of our asset is an analysis of criticality, determining the compressor as our most critical asset; which will be our best resources (human, economic and technological). There was also the preventive maintenance plan in order to foresee and anticipate our active operating failures. To sum up the maintenance plan, an assessment of the functioning of the entire system is made using standard COVENIN 2500-93, the same which allows us to obtain a reference of the operating condition of our asset in a quantitative way, resulting in 100%, and in a qualitative way our system is in excellent condition
