In the last years, cell-based therapies have attempted to correct these defects with disparate success on animal models of epilepsy. Recently, we demonstrated that medial ganglionic eminence (MGE)-derived cells grafted into the neonatal normal brain migrate and differentiate into functional mature GABAergic interneurons. These cells are able to modulate the local level of GABA-mediated synaptic inhibition, which suggests their suitability for cell-based therapies. However, it is unclear whether they can integrate in the host circuitry and rescue the loss of inhibition in pathological conditions. Thus, as proof of principle, we grafted MGE-derived cells into a mouse model of seizure susceptibility caused by specific elimination of GABAergic interneuron subpopulations in the mouse hippocampus after injection of the neurotoxic saporin conjugated to substance P (SSP-Sap). This ablation was associated with significant decrease in inhibitory postsynaptic currents (IPSC) on CA1 pyramidal cells and increased seizure susceptibility induced by pentylenetetrazol (PTZ). Grafting of GFP+ MGE-derived cells in SSP-Sap-treated mice repopulates the hippocampal ablated zone with cells expressing molecular markers of mature interneurons. Interestingly, IPSC kinetics on CA1 pyramidal cells of ablated hippocampus significantly increased after transplantation, reaching levels similar to the normal mice. More importantly, this was associated with reduction in seizure severity and decrease in postseizure mortality induced by PTZ. Our data show that MGE-derived cells fulfill most of the requirements for an appropriate cell-based therapy, and indicate their suitability for neurological conditions where a modulation of synaptic inhibition is needed, such as epilepsy. This work was supported by grants from Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (SAF 07/61880 and FIS 07/0079), and the Regenerative Medicine Programme from CIPF. Several nematode species were found in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, attacking roots of onion; namely, Meloidogyne incognita, M. javanica, M. thamesi, and Pratylenchus brachyurus. The last species seemed to be much more serious a detriment to onion production than the other ones. Symptoms exhibited by the attacked plants, particularily in seedlings, were: reduction of the aerial part and root system, chlorosis, magnesium and other element deficiencies, galls and necrosis on the roots and multilated roots. Control measures considered most economic are presented. They include: fumigation of the seed beds, crop rotation and repeated disturbance of the soil principally during hot-dry periods.

Due to the proliferation of products on the shelves in the stores, many companies started to use brands to differentiate their offer from competitors. However, many managers create an improper positioning of their brands and, thus, reduce the value of their products, rather than expand it. In order to improve the understanding about the type of brand, this study aimed to analyze the consumer preference in relation to facial anti-aging cosmetics attributes that brands can influence, such as: brand type, price, perceived quality, minimum purchase quantity and status. To achieve this scope, a survey was carried, during the year of 2009, concerning the preferences of 100 women about anti-aging cosmetics. The data analysis was executed using conjoint analysis. It was discovered that, to the analyzed sample, the determinative attributes to choose an anti-aging facial cosmetic, arranged in ascending order, are: minimum purchase quantity, status, price, brand type and quality. And, despite a few exceptions, it was obtained that social brand is preferred by the respondents. Thus, since the quality is the most important attribute for the interviewees, social brands that focus on the quality of their products and on how they are made can be great sources of value for the companies. Multivariate pattern recognition approaches have become a prominent tool in neuroimaging data analysis. These methods enable the classification of groups of participants (e.g. controls and patients) on the basis of subtly different patterns across the whole brain. This study demonstrates that these methods can be used, in combination with automated morphometric analysis of structural MRI, to determine with great accuracy whether a single subject has been engaged in regular mental training or not. The proposed approach allowed us to identify with 94.87% accuracy (p<0.001) if a given participant is a regular meditator (from a sample of 19 regular meditators and 20 non-meditators). Neuroimaging has been a relevant tool for diagnosing neurological and psychiatric impairments. This study may suggest a novel step forward: the emergence of a new field in brain imaging applications, in which participants could be identified based on their mental experience

Agribusiness is organized into policy networks. The orchestrations of interests associations are important to reveal the field of agroindustrial political governance which grew with the agricultural policies at the corporatist level, under the state regulation of Brazilian agriculture in the years 1960s and 1970s, and which have become more plural governances or in networks coordinated and oriented by business, agricultural product or agroindustrial sector. This article presents, through the citrical and sugar- alcohol agroindustrial case study in the State of São Paulo in the period 1964-2010, and the most important transformations in the two most important networks of agribusiness in São Paulo from the theoretical field of political neoinstitutionalism. OBJECTIVE: To assess determinants of access to primary care services prior to pregnancy by pregnant adolescents. METHODS: Theory-based cross-sectional study conducted to examine access to heath services at five dimensions: geographic, economic, administrative, psychosocial and information. There were included in the study 200 first-time pregnant adolescents (aged 10 to 19 years) who attended a primary care unit in the municipality of Indaiatuba, Southeastern Brazil, in 2003. Data was collected using a semi-structured questionnaire applied in face-to-face interviews conducted just before their first pre-natal care visit. Data analyses were performed through Person's chi-square or Fisher's exact test, and by a multivariate logistic regression model including all five dimensions of access. RESULTS: More than half (63.7%) of the adolescents utilized some gynecological care service. Information (43.8%) or psychosocial feelings of embarrassment or fear (37.0%) barriers were the most frequent reasons given for not having sought care before. The main barrier to health service access was related to the psychosocial dimension, reported by 77.0% of the adolescents studied. CONCLUSIONS: Among all barriers to health service access, the most important were those related to the psychosocial dimension. There is a need for new strategies to facilitate access to health services by adolescents, including actions to reduce gender-based barriers taking into consideration sociodemographic characteristics of this population and the relationship they have with their partners.OBJETIVO: Analizar los factores determinantes del acceso de adolescentes gestantes a los servicios de atención primaria a la salud, anterior a la ocurrencia de la gestación. Cárcel (2020) Ultrasound-assisted drying of orange peel in atmospheric freeze-dryer and convective dryer operated at moderate temperature, Drying Technology, 38:1-2, 259-267, DOI: 10.1080/07373937.2019.1645685 [copyright Taylor & Francis], available online at: http://www.tandfonline.com/10.1080/07373937.2019.1645685[EN] Atmospheric freeze-drying (AFD) at -10 degrees C and moderate temperature convective drying (MTD) at 50 degrees C without and with ultrasound application (20.5 kW/m(3)) were carried out. Alcohol insoluble residue (AIR) and its swelling capacity (SC), water retention capacity (WRC) and fat retention capacity (FRC) were measured in the dried product. Ultrasound significantly shortened the drying time in both processes, the intensification effect being more significant in atmospheric freeze-drying (57% and 27% reduction in atmospheric freeze-drying and convective drying, respectively). As regards AIR and WRC, no effect was observed of either the drying temperature or ultrasound application. On the contrary, SC was significantly lower in AFD samples. The FRC of MTD samples was similar to that of the fresh ones and higher than the values obtained for atmospheric freeze-dried samples. Therefore, convective drying at moderate temperature preserved the AIR properties better than atmospheric freeze-drying.The authors acknowledge the financial support of INIA-ERDF through project RTA2015-00060-C04-02.
