Exact monopole instantons and cosmological solutions in string theory from abelian dimensional reduction
We compute the exact string vacuum backgrounds corresponding to the
non-compact coset theory . The conformal field theory defined by
the level results in a five dimensional singular solution that
factorizes in an asymptotic region as the linear dilaton solution and a
model. It presents two abelian compact isometries that allow to reinterpreting
it from a four dimensional point of view as a stationary and magnetically
charged space-time resembling in some aspects the Kerr-Newman solution of
general relativity. The theory on the other hand describes a
cosmological solution that interpolates between a singular phase at short times
and a universe after some planckian times.Comment: 18 pages, section 5 replaced by 5 and 6, references added; to appear

Synchronisation of the superimposed training method for channel estimation in the presence of DC-offset
The superimposed training method estimates the channel
from the induced first-order cyclostationary statistics
exhibited by the received signal. In this paper,
using vector space decomposition, we show that the
information needed for training sequence synchronisation,
and for DC-offset estimation, can be extracted
from the first-order cyclostationary statistics as well.
Necessary and sufficient conditions for channel computation
and equalisation are derived, when training
sequence synchronisation and DC-offset removal are
required. The computational burden of the practical
implementation of the method presented here is much
lighter than for existing algorithms. At the same time,
simulation results show that the performance, in terms
of the MSE of the channel estimates and BER, is not
diminishedwhen compared to these existing algorithms
NGC7538 IRS1 - an ionized jet powered by accretion
Analysis of high spatial resolution VLA images shows that the free-free
emission from NGC7538 IRS1 is dominated by a collimated ionized wind. We have
re-analyzed high angular resolution VLA archive data from 6 cm to 7 mm, and
measured separately the flux density from the compact bipolar core and the
extended (1.5" - 3") lobes. We find that the flux density of the core is
proportional to the frequency to the power of alpha, with alpha being about
0.7. The frequency dependence of the total flux density is slightly steeper
with alpha = 0.8. A massive optically thick hypercompact core with a steep
density gradient can explain this frequency dependence, but it cannot explain
the extremely broad recombination line velocities observed in this source.
Neither can it explain why the core is bipolar rather than spherical, nor the
observed decrease of 4% in the flux density in less than 10 years. An ionized
wind modulated by accretion is expected to vary, because the accretion flow
from the surrounding cloud will vary over time. BIMA and CARMA continuum
observations at 3 mm show that the free-free emission still dominates at 3 mm.
HCO+ J = 1 - 0 observations combined with FCRAO single dish data show a clear
inverse P Cygni profile towards IRS1. These observations confirm that IRS1 is
heavily accreting with an accretion rate of about 2 times 10(-4) solar masses
per year.Comment: Accepted for Astrophysical Journal Letter
Effect of zinc intake on growth in infants: A meta-analysis
A systematic review and meta-analysis of available randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to evaluate the effect of zinc (Zn) intake on growth in infants. Out of 5500 studies identified through electronic searches and reference lists, 19 RCTs were selected after applying the exclusion/inclusion criteria. The influence of Zn intake on growth was considered in the overall meta-analysis. Other variables were also taken into account as possible effect modifiers: doses of Zn intake, intervention duration, nutritional status, and risk of bias. From each select growth study, final measures of weight, length, mid upper arm circumference (MUAC), head circumference, weight for age z-score (WAZ), length for age z-score (LAZ), and weight for length z-score (WLZ) were assessed. Pooled β and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated. Additionally, we carried out a sensitivity analysis. Zn intake was not associated with weight, length, MUAC, head circumference, and LAZ in the pooled analyses. However, Zn intake had a positive and statistically effect on WAZ (β = 0.06; 95%CI 0.02 to 0.10) and WLZ (β = 0.05; 95%CI 0.01 to 0.08). The dose–response relationship between Zn intake and these parameters indicated that a doubling of Zn intake increased WAZ and WLZ by approximately 4%. Substantial heterogeneity was present only in length analyses (I2 = 45%; p = 0.03). Zn intake was positively associated with length values at short time (four to 20 weeks) (β = 0.01; CI 95% 0 to 0.02) and at medium doses of Zn (4.1 to 8 mg/day) (β = 0.003; CI 95% 0 to 0.01). Nevertheless, the effect magnitude was small. Our results indicate that Zn intake increases growth parameters of infants. Nonetheless, interpretation of these results should be carefully considered
Gravitating sphalerons and sphaleron black holes in asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime
Numerical arguments are presented for the existence of spherically symmetric
regular and black hole solutions of the EYMH equations with a negative
cosmological constant. These solutions approach asymptotically the anti-de
Sitter spacetime. The main properties of the solutions and the differences with
respect to the asymptotically flat case are discussed. The instability of the
gravitating sphaleron solutions is also proven.Comment: 30 pages, LaTeX, 8 Encapsulated PostScript figure
Formation Flying Control Implementation in Highly Elliptical Orbits
The Tschauner-Hempel equations are widely used to correct the separation distance drifts between a pair of satellites within a constellation in highly elliptical orbits [1]. This set of equations was discretized in the true anomaly angle [1] to be used in a digital steady-state hierarchical controller [2]. This controller [2] performed the drift correction between a pair of satellites within the constellation. The objective of a discretized system is to develop a simple algorithm to be implemented in the computer onboard the satellite. The main advantage of the discrete systems is that the computational time can be reduced by selecting a suitable sampling interval. For this digital system, the amount of data will depend on the sampling interval in the true anomaly angle [3]. The purpose of this paper is to implement the discrete Tschauner-Hempel equations and the steady-state hierarchical controller in the computer onboard the satellite. This set of equations is expressed in the true anomaly angle in which a relation will be formulated between the time and the true anomaly angle domains
Gravitating Instantons In 3 Dimensions
We study the Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity coupled to Yang-Mills-Higgs theory
in three dimensional Euclidean space with cosmological constant. The classical
equations reduce to Bogomol'nyi type first order equations in curved space.
There are BPS type gauge theory instanton (monopole) solutions of finite action
in a gravitational instanton which itself has a finite action. We also discuss
gauge theory instantons in the vacuum (zero action) AdS space. In addition we
point out to some exact solutions which are singular.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures, title has changed, gravitational instanton

Monopoles and Holography
We present a holographic theory in AdS_4 whose zero temperature ground state
develops a crystal structure, spontaneously breaking translational symmetry.
The crystal is induced by a background magnetic field, but requires no chemical
potential. This lattice arises from the existence of 't Hooft-Polyakov monopole
solitons in the bulk which condense to form a classical object known as a
monopole wall. In the infra-red, the magnetic field is screened and there is an
emergent SU(2) global symmetry.Comment: 33 pages, 16 figures; v2: ref adde
The lake and valley of Metztilán is located in Sierra Madre Oriental range (Mexico). Its origin is due to the slope collapse after great rockslide. This paper exposes the firsts geomorphologic analysis of the feature, and includes and detailed geomorphologic map.
