UNA VISIONE DIALETTICA DELLA STORIA EBRAICA. GERSHOM SCHOLEM E L'EREDIT\uc0 DEL MESSIANISMO.

My dissertation is intended to analyze the work of Gershom Scholem with the scope of outlining his importance within the context of twentieth century Jewish thought. A great deal of this thesis is thus devoted not only to Scholem\u2019s political interventions and interviews, indeed a marginal part of his research, but also to detect the trace of a constant philosophical interest in his scholarship. First chapter provides the historical context, dealing briefly with some of the most important figures of the German-Jewish philosophical scene: Hermann Cohen, Martin Buber, and Franz Rosenzweig. The role of Ahad Ha\u2018am and cultural Zionism is also presented. Second chapter is devoted to Scholem\u2019s conception of language and to the analysis of the notions of Revelation and Tradition as developed in some of his most important essays. Central in this context is the role played by Franz Kafka, whose novels can be seen indeed as a sort of paradigm through which Scholem interpreted not only the main figures of Kabbalah, but also the whole theology of Judaism. An investigation of Scholem\u2019s methodology and conception of history is to be found in third chapter. Three elements that contributed very much to shape Scholem\u2019s scholarship are taken in particular account. First of all, Scholem\u2019s polemics against the Wissenschaft des Judentums, which finds its ground on an organicistic and non-essentialistic approach to Jewish history. Then, the early appreciation for Nietzsche and Lebensphilosophie, though later neglected by Scholem, is here seen as a possible source for the vitalistic and anarchic elements that characterize his research. Finally, a great part of this chapter is dedicated to a comparison between Scholem\u2019s conception of Jewish history and Walter Benjamin\u2019s Thesis on the concept of History (1940). Although much of scholarly effort has already been devoted to the relation between Scholem and Benjamin, the presence of Benjamin\u2019s last work in Scholem\u2019s research still needs to be considered in all its significance. With the aim of investigating Scholem\u2019s approach to Jewish history and historiography, two essays are taken in particular consideration: Memory and Utopia in Jewish History (1946), a lecture Scholem gave in the aftermath of the Holocaust in front of a Zionist audience, and On History and Philosophy of History, the text of Scholem\u2019s response to a talk on \u201cHistory and Hermeneutics\u201d given by Paul Ricoeur within the context of the \u201cFirst Jerusalem Philosophical Encounter\u201d (1974). Chapter four deals with Scholem\u2019s conception of messianism. After showing the importance of messianism in Scholem\u2019s research and the originality of his interpretation, the relevance of Scholem\u2019s position is highlighted through the analysis of the two most important polemics in which Scholem has been involved. The critiques of Scholem\u2019s opponents, Baruch Kurzweil and Jacob Taubes, have been taken here as a tool to show the philosophical and political concerns hiding behind the core of Scholem\u2019s analysis. With the help of some unpublished material, the last part of the chapter presents an overview of the relation between messianism and zionism in Scholem\u2019s work. His early zionism being loaded with metaphysical and messianic overtones, after moving to Palestine Scholem had to face a strong disenchantment, which lead him to separate his zionist affiliation, as a part of a historical responsibility and political decision, from messianism, which indeed he considered to be something rather un-historical and confined to an utopian plane. Fifth chapter intends to show the peculiarity of Scholem\u2019s attitude toward secularization. According to Scholem, the passage through secularism in Judaism has to be intended as a necessary moment, though not definitive, being part of a dialectics that cannot be foreseen in advance. An analysis of Scholem\u2019s 1926 letter to Rosenzweig is also offered, showing the philosophical significance of Scholem\u2019s reflections on the importance and the risks entailed in the secular revival of the Hebrew language

Learning fuzzy measures for aggregation in fuzzy rule-based models

Comunicación presentada al 15th International Conference on Modeling Decisions for Artificial Intelligence, MDAI 2018 (15 - 18 october 2018).Fuzzy measures are used to express background knowledge of the information sources. In fuzzy rule-based models, the rule confidence gives an important information about the final classes and their relevance. This work proposes to use fuzzy measures and integrals to combine rules confidences when making a decision. A Sugeno $$\lambda $$ -measure and a distorted probability have been used in this process. A clinical decision support system (CDSS) has been built by applying this approach to a medical dataset. Then we use our system to estimate the risk of developing diabetic retinopathy. Bridging the Gap Between Health Records and Personal Health Information

This study surveyed professionals in health information technology (HIT), health informatics, and healthcare to identify the ideal components of an integrated personal health record (PHR) and to determine their concerns about the design and implementation of PHRs. In addition, the study investigated participants' opinions on the possibility of sharing health information electronically between providers and patients as well as the idea of patients sharing their personal health information electronically with individuals of their choice. The study found strong support in favor of both concepts. Participants voiced concern over maintaining patient privacy and providing security to protect health information; however, with appropriate protections, respondents supported a number of PHR functionalities that would begin to shift this tool from being a standalone product to an integrated part of an individual's health record

Mattia Preti : architetto della Sacra Religione di Malta

Mattia Preti was primarily known to the Catholic world of the seventeenth century as a prolific painter and, since 1700, much ink has been spilled concerning his rich legacy of paintings in Rome, Naples, Malta and elsewhere, remarkable for the sophistications of their composition and execution and for their potential of admirably adorning sacred and profane interiors in true baroque style. By contrast very little ink has been spilled and still less research work has been carried out, concerning what I consider to be Mattia Preti’s praiseworthy architectural skills, particularly evident during the 1660-1699 period when he was serving the Religion of Malta. One notable exception was a contribution by the twentieth-century art historian, Chev. Vincenzo Bonello who was the first person who was brave enough to contribute a brief but concise article entitled Mattia Preti, Architetto to the proceedings of the XV congresso di storia dell’architettura, held in Malta in September 1967 and published in Rome in 1970. In this paper, I shall attempt to highlight some references to Mattia Preti’s architectural formation and post-1660 activity as an architect by focusing on what is revealed in at least four quasi-contemporary printed sources, before discussing some case-studies of his architectural activity in Malta.peer-reviewe

O direito na construção da política externa brasileira da primeira república

O advento da Constituição Federal de 1891, juntamente às demais normas infraconstitucionais subsequentes, infundiu significativas mudanças na organização do direito no país, sobretudo em matérias constitucional, administrativa e internacional, originando um processo de transição institucional também no âmbito da política externa brasileira, auxiliando na forja de uma nova identidade diplomática nacional de caráter supragovernamental, pragmático, compositivo e multilateral, que se fez característica do Brasil enquanto sujeito de direito internacional até a atualidade. Nesse sentido, a análise históricojuridica proporciona a compreensão acerca da relação do direito com a consolidação das diretrizes da política internacional do Brasil durante a Primeira República (1889-1930). O trabalho se vale, para isso, de breve contextualização do cenário político do período, procedendo a uma atentiva análise da estrutura funcional do Itamaraty e, então, de estudos de casos variados vinculados à atuação do país em distintos âmbitos de suas relações internacionais, destacando-se: a realização de processos de arbitragem internacional na resolução de disputas territoriais fronteiriças; a adoção da posição de "estado de beligerância" no curso da Primeira Guerra Mundial e o impacto no conflito; e a ratificação do Tratado de Versalhes, consequente incorporação do país à Sociedade das Nações e sua lógica organizacional multilateral.Abstract: The profounds modifications promoted in the Brazilian legal system by the establishment of the republican form of government in the late XIX century have heavily impacted different areas of the Administration's activities. The advent of the 1891ºs Federal Constitution, alongside others sub-constitutional norms that followed, induced meaningful changes in the legal organization of the country, mainly in constitutional, administrative and international matters, also generating an institutional transition process in the scope of Brazilian foreign policy, budding a new diplomatic identity based on the supranational, pragmatic, compositional, and multilateral principles, wich constitute Brazil's attributes as an relevant player on the international stage to this day. Therefore, the historical and legalistic analysis promote a better understanding of the influence that law had on the Brazilian international politics guidelines buildup during the First Republic (1889-1930). In order to promote that, the research presents a brief context of the political scenery during the studied years, proceeding to a close review on the secretary of foreign affairs functional structure and, finally, exams the country’s performances on cases that involve distinct areas of its international relations, prominently: taking part in international arbitration processes in pursuance of solving territorial disputes; adopting the "belligerency condition" during World War I and its impacts in the conflict; and the Treaty of Versailles™ signing, the country’s consequent incorporation in the League of Nations and in its multilateral coordinated logic

O presente trabalho tem como tema principal a avaliação do valor de uma marca. Para tanto, será utilizado o método de valoração de ativos conhecido como valuation. A partir deste será feita uma comparação entre o valor de uma empresa com marca e de uma empresa semelhante genérica, sem marca – chegando por fim ao valor da marca propriamente dita. O objetivo principal deste trabalho é demonstrar uma das possíveis formas de valoração de uma marca e estimular o debate sobre esse tema de crescente importância para o mundo empresarial
