Interfaces between colonial debate and environmental journalism studies

Este ensaio, fruto de pesquisa bibliográfica, tem como objetivo tensionar os pressupostos do jornalismo ambiental com o debate colonial, sobretudo a partir da perspectiva do meio ambiente. Entende-se o jornalismo ambiental como uma prática engajada que ultrapassa uma especialização temática, colocando em evidência as problemáticas ambientais e questionando aspectos consolidados dentro do campo jornalístico, oriundos de uma lógica eurocêntrica. Pretende-se apontar as interfaces do jornalismo com a discussão ambiental a partir das abordagens críticas ao colonialismo. Dentre as considerações, verifica-se que, mesmo sem mencionar de forma explícita as correntes teóricas que discutem a questão colonial, o jornalismo ambiental incorpora esta crítica desde o início ao entender a natureza na sua inteireza e a humanidade como parte dela.This essay, result of bibliographic research, aims to tension the assumptions of environmental journalism with the colonial debate, especially from the perspective of the environment. Environmental journalism is understood as an engaged practice that goes beyond a thematic specialization, highlighting environmental issues and questioning consolidated aspects within the journalistic field, arise from a Eurocentric logic. It’s intended to point out the interfaces of journalism with the environmental discussion from the critical approaches to colonialism. Among the considerations, it appears that, even without explicitly mentioning the theoretical currents that discuss the colonial issue, environmental journalism incorporates this criticism from the beginning by understanding nature in its entirety and humanity as part of it

Before the disaster: notes on Journalism, risk communication, prevention and citizen involvement

This text, from a reflective perspective, articulates aspects related to the risks communication, the involvement of citizens and the place given to prevention by journalism. From a bibliographical research, it is verified that this interface is still restricted in Brazil and, from the literature discussion, the possible crosses between the culture of prevention and the journalistic coverage about risks, as well as their association with citizenship, are analyzed. Among the considerations, it points out that Journalism needs to revise its logic, focused on the present, to the concrete event, since we are living in a society oriented to the future and surrounded by risks - which requires a more preventive positioning

The news coverage of climate strikes in non-hegemonic media in Brazil

Este artigo se propõe a analisar como as greves pelo clima foram cobertas por três meios jornalísticos brasileiros considerados não hegemônicos: Conexão Planeta, Envolverde e Colabora. O movimento global, desencadeado pela ativista Greta Thunberg em 2018, ganhou projeção no Brasil em 2019, mas foi impactado no ano seguinte em razão das restrições impostas pela pandemia de covid-19. A partir da Análise Crítica do Discurso, verifica-se como os veículos representaram a mobilização em prol do enfrentamento climático no pico da cobertura. Os resultados mostram que, apesar de um discurso engajado e a favor dos ativistas, a cobertura das greves pelo clima possui muitas semelhanças com aquilo que já foi identificado em meios jornalísticos hegemônicos no Brasil, predominando o enfoque internacional e o destaque para ativistas já conhecidos.This article aims to analyze how climate strikes were covered by three considered nonhegemonic Brazilian journalistic media: Conexão Planeta, Envolverde and Colabora. The global movement, triggered by activist Greta Thunberg in 2018, gained projection in Brazil in 2019, but was impacted the following year due to restrictions imposed by the covid-19 pandemic. From the Critical Discourse Analysis, it is verified how the vehicles represented the mobilization in favor of climate change combat at the peak of coverage. Despite engaged discourse in favor of activists, the results show that the coverage of climate strikes has many similarities with what has already been identified in hegemonic journalistic media in Brazil, with an international focus predominating and an emphasis on well-known activists

Panorama da pesquisa em Jornalismo Ambiental no Brasil: o estado da arte nas dissertações e teses entre 1987 e 2010

This article presents an overview of studies on Environmental Journalism in Brazil through the mapping and analysis of theses and dissertations on the subject that are registered in the CAPES Bank of Theses in the period from 1987 to 2010. With a qualitative approach, a descriptive analysis of the abstracts of the studies was performed, with the goal of identifying subjects, theoretical-methodological background, empirical objects and the concept of Environmental Journalism; for the preparation of percentages and charts, we used quantitative analysis. The detailing of the 101 abstracts found allowed us to detect in what region there is a higher stimulus and interest in the area, the most used referential, the most recurrent gaps, among other aspects that characterize the state-of-the-art studies. Besides the contributions on what is Environmental Journalism and how is it being investigated in the country, we have verified that the definition of this expression is not clear not even among the researchers themselves.O artigo tece um panorama da pesquisa sobre Jornalismo Ambiental no Brasil por meio do mapeamento e análise das dissertações e teses sobre o assunto que estão cadastradas no Banco de Teses da Capes no período de 1987 a 2010. A partir da abordagem qualitativa, fez-se uma análise descritiva nos resumos dos trabalhos buscando identificar os temas, referenciais teórico-metodológicos, objetos empíricos, relação com a educação e conceituação de Jornalismo Ambiental; para a elaboração de percentuais e gráficos, fez-se uso da análise quantitativa. O esmiuçamento dos 101 resumos encontrados permitiu que se detectasse em qual região existe maior fomento e interesse na área, o referencial mais utilizado, as lacunas mais recorrentes, dentre outros aspectos que caracterizam os estudos de estado da arte. Além das contribuições sobre como está sendo investigado o Jornalismo Ambiental no País, verificou-se que a compreensão deste conceito não está clara nem entre os próprios pesquisadores do assunto

New paths of the brazilian environmental coverage: a study on Jornal Nacional

Este artigo propõe reflexão teórica sobre as mudanças qualitativas observadas na cobertura jornalística sobre meio ambiente no Brasil, especialmente a partir do início do Governo Bolsonaro, e busca compreender suas razões e implicações. Para tanto, realiza um mapeamento no site do Jornal Nacional (JN), principal telejornal brasileiro, desde janeiro de 2019, início da gestão de Jair Bolsonaro na Presidência da República, até junho de 2019, totalizando os primeiros seis meses de uma nova política que afronta a pauta ambiental. Por meio da Análise de Conteúdo (Bardin, 2011), verifica-se a frequência das temáticas ambientais no JN e seus principais enfoques. Em seguida, discute-se o resultado da amostra frente a dados da pesquisa bibliográfica sobre jornalismo ambiental no Brasil e sobre a abordagem da questão ambiental no JN. Assim, tensionan aspectos positivos e negativos dos dados da realidade com os aportes teóricos, buscando evidências da repercussão do contexto político nacional nas pautas ambientais no período.This article proposes a theoretical reflection about qualitative changes observed at the journalistic coverage about the environment in Brazil, especially since the beginning of Bolsonaro’s Government, and aims to comprehend its reasons and implications. For that, it performs a mapping process at the website of Jornal Nacional (JN), which is the main Brazilian TV newscast, from January 2019, beginning of Jair Bolsonaro’s term at the Presidency of the Republic, to June 2019, comprehending the first six months of a new policy that affronts the environmental schedule. Through the Content Analysis (Bardin, 2011), the frequency of environmental thematic on JN and its main approaches are verified. Then, it is discussed the sample results against data from the bibliographic research about environmental journalism in Brazil and about the approach of the environmental issue on JN. Therefore, it tensions positive and negative aspects from reality data with theoretical contributions, looking for evidences of the repercussion of the national political context amongst the environmental schedule at the period. Cooperative ordering of treadmilling filaments in cytoskeletal networks of FtsZ and its crosslinker ZapA

During bacterial cell division, the tubulin-homolog FtsZ forms a ring-like structure at the center of the cell. This Z-ring not only organizes the division machinery, but treadmilling of FtsZ filaments was also found to play a key role in distributing proteins at the division site. What regulates the architecture, dynamics and stability of the Z-ring is currently unknown, but FtsZ-associated proteins are known to play an important role. Here, using an in vitro reconstitution approach, we studied how the well-conserved protein ZapA affects FtsZ treadmilling and filament organization into large-scale patterns. Using high-resolution fluorescence microscopy and quantitative image analysis, we found that ZapA cooperatively increases the spatial order of the filament network, but binds only transiently to FtsZ filaments and has no effect on filament length and treadmilling velocity. Together, our data provides a model for how FtsZ-associated proteins can increase the precision and stability of the bacterial cell division machinery in a switch-like manner

O JORNALISMO AMBIENTAL NA CONCEPÇÃO DE QUEM O FAZ: ESTUDO COM JORNALISTAS DA AMÉRICA LATINA, CARIBE, PORTUGAL, ESPANHA E PAÍSES AFRICANOS DE LÍNGUA PORTUGUESA

Este artigo é fruto de uma pesquisa realizada com jornalistas que se dedicam à cobertura de meio ambiente, em veículos de comunicação, assessorias de imprensa ou no ensino, na América Latina, Caribe, Portugal, Espanha e países africanos de língua portuguesa a fim de verificar como esses profissionais compreendem a noção de Jornalismo Ambiental (JA). Metodologicamente, partimos de uma mapeamento de quem seriam os jornalistas que poderiam contribuir com a pesquisa para, então, aplicarmos questionários com perguntas abertas que envolvem o entendimento dos desafios desta prática. A abordagem é qualitativa e baseia-se ainda em pesquisa bibliográfica e tem caráter descritivo. Dentre os resultados, observamos que muitos jornalistas trabalham em consonância com os aportes teóricos da área, comprometendo-se com a pauta ambiental.   PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Jornalismo Ambiental; Prática jornalística; Jornalistas.     ABSTRACT This article is the result of research carried out with journalists who work in the field of environmental, in communication vehicles, press services or in the teaching area, in Latin America, the Caribbean, Portugal, Spain and Portuguese-speaking African countries in order to verify how these professionals understand the notion of Environmental Journalism (EJ). Methodologically, we start with a mapping of who would be the journalists who could contribute to the research and then apply questionnaires with open questions that involve the understanding of the challenges of this practice. The approach is qualitative and is based on bibliographic research and had descriptive character. Among the results, it is observed that many journalists work in consonance with the theoretical contributions of the area, committing themselves to the environmental agenda.  KEYWORDS: Environmental Journalism; Journalistic practice; Jounalists.     RESUMEN Este artículo es el resultado de una investigación con periodistas que se dedican a la cobertura del medio ambiente, en vehículos de comunicación, asesorías de prensa o en el área de enseñanza, en América Latina, el Caribe, Portugal, España y los países africanos de lengua portuguesa con el fin de ver cómo estos profesionales comprenden la noción de Periodismo Ambiental (PA). Metodológicamente, se parte de una cartografía de quiénes serían los periodistas que podrían contribuir con la investigación para entonces aplicar cuestionarios con preguntas abiertas que involucra el entendimiento de los desafíos de esta práctica. El enfoque es cualitativo, se basa en la investigación bibliográfica y tiene carácter descriptivo. Entre los resultados, observamos que muchos periodistas trabajan en consonancia con los aportes teóricos del área, comprometiéndose con la pauta ambiental.  PALABRAS CLAVE: Periodismo Ambiental; Práctica periodística; Periodistas

Meio ambiente no Jornal Nacional: das tragédias às disputas políticas

Este estudo parte de um mapeamento de todos os conteúdos relacionados à questão ambiental exibidos pelo telejornal de maior audiência no Brasil, o Jornal Nacional (JN), durante o ano de 2019, que foi marcado por três grandes tragédias e pela repercussão da política federal anti-meio ambiente. Encontramos 833 matérias que foram analisadas tendo por base estudos sobre a cobertura deste tema no JN em anos anteriores e a perspectiva do Jornalismo Ambiental, a partir da Análise de Conteúdo. Avaliamos os enfoques temáticos e constatamos tendência de ampliação da pauta ambiental no telejornal, ainda que os pressupostos do Jornalismo Ambiental sejam acionados apenas em parte. Discutimos em que medida esse processo representa uma disputa de poder entre o JN e o presidente Jair Bolsonaro, que se coloca contra o cuidado ambiental
