A Barrier Option Utility Framework for Bank Interest Margin under Government Bailout

    Get PDF
[[abstract]]The barrier options theory of corporate security valuation is applied to the contingent claims of a distressed bank under a bailout program of distressed loan purchases. In particular, the bank acts as if it has a single utility function that positively weights equity returns like, but negatively weights bankruptcy dislike. We show that an increase in the amount of distressed loan purchases decreases the loan amount at an increased margin when buying distressed loan amount is high. Bailout as such makes the bank less prone to loan risk taking, thereby contributing the stability of the banking system. A numerical exercise shows that the market-based estimates of the expected utility of bank equity returns which ignore the weights (a standard down-and-out call option) or the dislike (a standard call option) lead to significant overestimation.[[journaltype]]國外[[ispeerreviewed]]Y[[booktype]]電子版[[countrycodes]]CA

The effect of TQM strategy on learning satisfaction and loyalty of students-the mediation effect of teaching quality

[[abstract]]In 2015, there were 41 universities having less than 80% of the average freshmen registration rate in Taiwan. In 2016, it is estimated that the freshman population will be further reduced by 30,000. This indicates universities may have financial difficulty due to student population shrinkage crises. Conducting total quality management (TQM) and enhancing the education quality are the strategies being adopted by many schools to attract students. This research investigates whether TQM strategies, teaching quality, and school brand are conducive to student learning satisfaction and loyalty. The results showed: (1) TQM strategies and teaching quality have significant and positive influence on student learning satisfaction loyalty. (2) Among TQM strategies, student learning satisfaction and loyalty, teaching quality has an intermediary effect. The results of this study can be used as a reference for the recruitment strategy and sustainable management of higher education institutions.[[notice]]補正完

Credit Risk Hedging, Deposit Insurance Fund Protection, and Default Risk in Retail Banking during a Financial Crisis

[[abstract]]The barrier options theory of corporate security valuation is applied to the contingent claims of a regulated bank. The regulator/insurer of the bank owns a down-and-in call option on the bank’s assets which can be balanced against the expected coverage cost. This paper examines how the bank’s credit risk hedging operation affects its spread behavior and performance and how these effects vary at various levels of the regulatory insurance fund protection. We find that an increase in the bank’s credit risk hedging has a negative effect on its loan rate, deposit rate, default risk, and liability value. The regulatory deposit insurance fund protection reinforces the reduction in bank default risk, thereby contributing to the stability of the banking system. The insurance fund protection with credit risk hedging confirms the requirement of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.[[notice]]補正完畢[[journaltype]]國外[[ispeerreviewed]]Y[[booktype]]紙本[[countrycodes]]CA

The Impact of School Brand, Organization Socialization and P-O Fit on Student Learning

[[abstract]]Ensuring the quality of education and enabling the advancement of students in a competitive environment requires an understanding of factors that influence learning. This research explores the influence of school brand, organization socialization, and person-organization fit (P-O Fit) on student learning outcomes, satisfaction with learning, and organizational citizenship behavior in universities. Our results reveal the following: (1) Organizations socialization has a significantly positive influence on P-O Fit. (2) School brand, socialization within an organization, and P-O Fit have a significantly positive influence on learning outcomes, satisfaction with learning, and organizational citizenship behavior. (3) P-O Fit can mediate the influence of socialization on learning outcomes, satisfaction with learning, and organizational citizenship behavior. These results will provide valuable insights for policy makers and educators in the Asia Pacific region and elsewhere to deal with critical questions about the improvement of teaching and learning and school improvement in a globalizing world.[[notice]]補正完

Association of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Gene Polymorphisms with Susceptibility and Clinicopathologic Characteristics of Colorectal Cancer

    Get PDF
Since vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is known to be a potent pro-angiogenic factor, we evaluated the potential association of two VEGF gene polymorphisms (-634G>C and 936C>T) with the susceptibility and the clinicopathologic characteristics of colorectal cancer (CRC). The VEGF genotypes were determined using fresh colorectal tissue from 465 patients who had undergone a surgical resection and peripheral blood lymphocytes from 413 healthy controls by PCR/DHPLC assay. For the -634G>C polymorphism, the -634 GC or CC genotype was associated with a decreased risk of CRC (odds ratio [OR], 0.62; p=0.001) as a dominant model of C allele, whereas the 936 TT genotype correlated with advanced stage/ metastasis, a high serum level of CA19-9, and an higher grade in patients with CRC. In the haplotype analyses, haplotype -634C/936C and -634G/936T were associated with a decreased susceptibility of CRC (OR, 0.53 and 0.56; p<0.001, respectively). These observations imply that the VEGF gene polymorphisms may be associated with the susceptibility or clinicopathologic features of CRC. However, further studies of other VEGF sequence variants and their biological functions are needed to understand the role of the VEGF gene polymorphisms in the development and progression of CRC

Do asian patients require only half of the clozapine dose prescribed for caucasians? A critical overview

© 2020 Indian Psychiatric Society - South Zonal Branch | Published by Wolters Kluwer - Medknow. Since 1997, studies have found that Asians need lower clozapine doses than Caucasians. Caucasians with average clozapine metabolism may need from 300 to 600 mg/day to reach the therapeutic range (350 ng/ml). Thus, serum clozapine concentration-to-dose (C/D) ratios typically range between 0.60 (male smokers) and 1.20 (female non-smokers). A 2019 systematic review of clozapine levels demonstrated weighted mean C/D ratios of 1.57 in 876 East Asians and 1.07 in 1147 Caucasians (

Conflicting Climate Change Frames in a Global Field of Media Discourse

    Get PDF
Reducing global emissions will require a global cosmopolitan culture built from detailed attention to conflicting national climate change frames (interpretations) in media discourse. The authors analyze the global field of media climate change discourse using 17 diverse cases and 131 frames. They find four main conflicting dimensions of difference: validity of climate science, scale of ecological risk, scale of climate politics, and support for mitigation policy. These dimensions yield four clusters of cases producing a fractured global field. Positive values on the dimensions show modest association with emissions reductions. Data-mining media research is needed to determine trends in this global field.Peer reviewe
