    Sorption of Eu(III) on Attapulgite Studied by Batch, XPS and EXAFS Techniques.

    The effects of pH, ionic strength and temperature on sorption of Eu(III) on attapulgite were investigated in the presence and absence of fulvic acid (FA) and humic acid (HA). The results indicated that the sorption of Eu(III) on attapulgite was strongly dependent on pH and ionic strength, and independent of temperature. In the presence of FA/HA, Eu(III) sorption was enhanced at pH 7. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis suggested that the sorption of Eu(III) might be expressed as ≑X3Eu0 ≑SwOHEu3+ and ≑SOEu-OOC-/HA in the ternary Eu/HA/attapulgite system. The extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) analysis of Eu-HA complexes indicated that the distances of d(Eu-O) decreased from 2.451 to 2.360 Γ… with increasing pH from 1.76 to 9.50, whereas the coordination number (N) decreased from ~9.94 to ~8.56. Different complexation species were also found for the different addition sequences of HA and Eu(III) to attapulgite suspension. The results are important to understand the influence of humic substances on Eu(III) behavior in the natural environment

    Analysis of Fracture Behavior of Thin Polycrystalline Diamond Films

    The effect of the substrate temperature and CHβ‚„ concentrations on the fracture behavior of thin polycrystalline diamond films was systematically investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the fracture behavior of thin polycrystalline diamond films synthesized by direct current plasma jet chemical vapor deposition is closely related to the substrate temperature and CHβ‚„ concentrations. A high substrate temperature, due to difference in the thermal expansion coefficients of the substrate and the diamond film, causes thin polycrystalline diamond films to generate high residual stresses, which usually exceed fracture strength of thin diamond film and even that of diamond. The fracture toughness is found to drop with the increasing ratio of CHβ‚„ concentration. In case of high CHβ‚„ concentrations, various defects and impurities, such as cracks, microscopic holes, graphite, and amorphous carbon were observed in the films.     Simple Memristive SPICE Macro-Models and Reconfigurability in Filter and Antenna

    Simple current- and voltage-controlled memristive circuit macro-models using SPICE are proposed to capture the nonlinear hysteresis loop behaviors in this paper. Different current-voltage characteristics are investigated by applying sinusoidal-wave, triangular-wave and square-wave source, respectively. Furthermore, using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) emulator incorporated with a SPICE circuit solver, the current- or voltage-controlled memristive SPICE model is embedded into a planar microwave bandstop filter (BSF) and an ultra-wideband (UWB) monopole antenna, which connects two ends of the half-wavelength open-loop resonator and two sides of the U-slot in the radiating patch, respectively.     Study on Thermal Stress of Honeycomb Ceramic Regenerators with Different Parameters

    In thermal flow-reversal reactor operations, honeycomb ceramic regenerators are exposed to thermal shock load. In this study, numerical simulations of the temperature and thermal stress distributions of honeycomb ceramic regenerators are carried out using the CFX software. Temperature variations with time are calculated first for honeycomb ceramic regenerators with holes of different shapes. Then, thermal stress distributions of regenerators are analyzed with different structural and operational parameters. The analyses show that the thermal stress of honeycomb ceramic regenerator depends on the shape of holes, porosity and wall thicknesses.     Effect of alirocumab on major adverse cardiovascular events according to renal function in patients with a recent acute coronary syndrome: Prespecified analysis from the ODYSSEY OUTCOMES randomized clinical trial

    Aims Statins reduce cardiovascular risk in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and normal-to-moderately impaired renal function. It is not known whether proprotein convertase subtilisin-kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors provide similar benefit across a range of renal function. We determined whether effects of the PCSK9 inhibitor alirocumab to reduce cardiovascular events and death after ACS are influenced by renal function. ................................................................................................................................................................................................... Methods ODYSSEY OUTCOMES compared alirocumab with placebo in patients with recent ACS and dyslipidaemia despite and results intensive statin treatment. Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) <30 mL/min/1.73 m was exclusionary. In 18 918 patients, baseline eGFR was 82.8 Β± 17.6 mL/min/1.73 m , and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was 92 Β± 31 mg/dL. At 36 months, alirocumab decreased LDL-C by 48.5% vs. placebo but did not affect eGFR (P = 0.65). Overall, alirocumab reduced risk of the primary outcome (coronary heart disease death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, ischaemic stroke, or unstable angina requiring hospitalization) with fewer deaths. There was no interaction between continuous eGFR and treatment on the primary outcome or death (P = 0.14 and 0.59, respectively). Alirocumab reduced primary outcomes in patients with eGFR >_90 mL/min/1.73 m (n = 7470; hazard ratio 0.784, 95% confidence interval 0.670–0.919; P = 0.003) and 60 to <90 (n = 9326; 0.833, 0.731–0.949; P = 0.006), but not in those with eGFR < 60 (n = 2122; 0.974, 0.805–1.178; P = 0.784). Adverse events other than local injection-site reactions were similar in both groups across all categories of eGFR. ...................................................................................................................................................................................................     Scaling Behavior of Anomalous Hall Effect and Longitudinal Nonlinear Response in High-Tc Superconductors

    Based on existing theoretical model and by considering our longitudinal nonlinear response function, we derive a nonliear equation in which the mixed state Hall resistivity can be expressed as an analytical function of magnetic field, temperature and applied current. This equation enables one to compare quantitatively the experimental data with theoretical model. We also find some new scaling relations of the temperature and field dependency of Hall resistivity. The comparison between our theoretical curves and experimental data shows a fair agreement.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
