Before continuing in the development of the report, it is important to bear in mind that cybersecurity is an important factor in any organization and that a good implementation of it will help companies not to present security flaws and keep their assets safe. For this reason, it is important to use the Blue Team and Red Team teams that work together to contribute to the development of company security, mitigation of risks and vulnerabilities

Solar desalination by combination with concentrated solar power: Exergy cost analysis

Some regions of the world with high solar irradiation conditions have a growing demand for electricity and freshwater that could cause supply problems in the industries and population. To reduce this risk, the use of solar energy to generate electricity and freshwater is an interesting option to consider. Electricity could be generated from concentrated solar power (CSP) plants fuelled by solar energy and natural gas, while freshwater could be produced from multi-effect distillation (MED) and reverse osmosis (RO) technologies driven by thermal energy and electricity, respectively. An exergy cost analysis of the integration of two desalination technologies (MED and RO) with a CSP plant is carried out to compare in terms of exergy cost. The symbolic exergoeconomics method is applied in the configurations analyzed. The different configurations are evaluated in a representative region with high irradiation conditions. Results show that the best configuration for producing electricity and freshwater is achieved when the stand-alone RO plant is connected to the grid where the unit exergy cost of electricity and water is 31% and 54% lower than in the stand-alone CSP plant and stand-alone MED, respectively. However, CSP-MED is the recommended configuration for the solar cogeneration scheme evaluated. Additionally, the most influential components in the cost formation of electricity are solar collectors (46.6% in CSP-MED and 44.3% in CSP-RO) while for freshwater they are solar collectors (27.6% in CSP-MED and 42.0% CSP-RO), multi-effect distillation module (15.7% in CSP-MED), and reverse osmosis module (20.5% in CSP-RO). In these components the design should be improved to reduce the unit exergy cost of electricity and freshwater

Exergy cost assessment of solar trigeneration plant based on a concentrated solar power plant as the prime mover

An exergy cost assessment of solar trigeneration plant to generate electricity, fresh-water, and heat is carried out in order to study the process of exergy cost formation, to determine the key components that contribute to the cost of each product, and to establish the best configuration in term of unit exergy cost. The solar trigeneration plants evaluated consist of a concentrated solar power (CSP), a multi-effect distillation plant, and a process heat module, in which the CSP plant is the prime mover. The methodology includes modeling and evaluating the performance of standalone and trigeneration plants using the symbolic exergoeconomic methodology. Results show that the best configuration, in terms of exergy cost, is when the multi-effect distillation plant replaces the power cycle condenser. Regarding the costs formation, the key components which could be improved in their design are: solar collectors, evaporator, re-heater, dissipative systems, and productive subsystems

Development of nanobodies against hemorrhagic and myotoxic components of Bothrops atrox snake venom

Snake envenoming is a globally neglected public health problem. Antivenoms produced using animal hyperimmune plasma remain the standard therapy for snakebites. Although effective against systemic effects, conventional antivenoms have limited efficacy against local tissue damage. In addition, potential hypersensitivity reactions, high costs for animal maintenance, and difficulties in obtaining batch-to-batch homogeneity are some of the factors that have motivated the search for innovative and improved therapeutic products against such envenoming. In this study, we have developed a set of nanobodies (recombinant single-domain antigen-binding fragments from camelid heavy chain-only antibodies) against Bothrops atrox snake venom hemorrhagic and myotoxic components. An immune library was constructed after immunizing a Lama glama with whole venom of B. atrox, from which nanobodies were selected by phage display using partially purified hemorrhagic and myotoxic proteins. Biopanning selections retrieved 18 and eight different nanobodies against the hemorrhagic and the myotoxic proteins, respectively. In vivo assays in mice showed that five nanobodies inhibited the hemorrhagic activity of the proteins; three neutralized the hemorrhagic activity of whole B. atrox venom, while four nanobodies inhibited the myotoxic protein. A mixture of the anti-hemorrhagic and anti-myotoxic nanobodies neutralized the local tissue hemorrhage and myonecrosis induced by the whole venom, although the nanobody mixture failed to prevent the venom lethality. Nevertheless, our results demonstrate the efficacy and usefulness of these nanobodies to neutralize important pathologies of the venom, highlighting their potential as innovative therapeutic agents against envenoming by B. atrox, a viperid species causing many casualties in South America.National Council of Science and Technology/[188-2015-FONDECYT]/CONCYTEC-FONDECYT/PerúUCR::Vicerrectoría de Investigación::Unidades de Investigación::Ciencias de la Salud::Instituto Clodomiro Picado (ICP

Infectious and non-infectious diseases burden among Haitian immigrants in Chile: a cross-sectional study

Indexación ScopusChile has become a popular destination for migrants from South America and the Caribbean (low- and middle-income countries migration). Close to 200.000 Haitian migrants have arrived in Chile. Infectious and non-infectious disease burden among the Haitian adult population living in Chile is unknown. This study aimed to acquire the basic health information (selected transmissible and non-transmissible conditions) of the Haitian adult population living in Chile. A cross-sectional survey was performed, inviting Haitian-born residents in Chile older than 18 years old. Common conditions and risk factors for disease were assessed, as well as selected transmissible conditions (HIV, HBV, and HCV). 498 participants (60.4% female) from 10 communities in two regions of Chile were surveyed. Most subjects had never smoked (91.5%), and 80% drank less than one alcohol unit per month. The mean BMI was 25.6, with 45% of participants having a normal BMI (20–25). Hypertension was present in 31.5% (33% in the 25–44 age group). Prevalence of HIV was 2.4% (95 CI 1.3–4.2%), hepatitis B (HBsAg positive) was 3.4% (95 CI 2.1–5.5%), and hepatitis C was 0% (95 CI 0.0–0.9%). Quality of life showed a significant prevalence of depression and anxiety markers, particularly in those arriving in Chile less than 1 year ago. Low prevalence of obesity, diabetes, smoking, and drinking and estimated cardiovascular risk were found. Nonetheless, hypertension at a younger age, disproportionately higher prevalence of HIV and HBV infection and frequent markers of anxiety and depression were also found. Public policies for detecting and treating hypertension, HIV, and HBV screening, offering HBV vaccination, and organizing mental health programs for Haitian immigrants, are urgently needed. © 2020, The Author(s).https://www-nature-com.recursosbiblioteca.unab.cl/articles/s41598-020-78970-
