Here we present a summary of joint discussions on the results of three mountain experiments with large-scale emulsion chambers, at Pamir, Mt. Fuji and Chacaltaya. Observations cover gamma quanta, hadrons and their clusters (called "families"). The following topics are covered, concerning the characteristics of nuclear interactions the energy region 1014-1016 eV: (i) rapid dissipation seen in atmospheric diffusion of high-energy cosmic-rays; (ii) multiplicity and Pt increase in produced pi-mesons in the fragmentation region; (iii) existence of large-Pt jets, (iv) extremely hadron-rich family of the Centauro type; (v) exotic phenomena in the extremely high energy region beyond 1016 eV. © 1981.1911125(1977) Acta Univ. An exotic cosmic-ray family event is observed in the large emulsion chamber exposed by the joint at the Pamirs (4360 m above sea level). The family is composed of 120γ-ray-induced showers and 37 hadron-induced showers with individual visible energy exceeding 1 TeV. The decisive feature of the event is the hadron dominance: ΣEγ, ΣE(γ) h, 〈Eγ, 〈E(γ) h〉, 〈Eγ·Rγ〉 and 〈E(γ)·Rh〉 being 298 TeV, 476 TeV, 2.5 TeV, 12.9 TeV, 28.6 GeV m and 173 GeV m, respectively. Most probably the event is due to a Centauro interaction, which occured in the atmosphere at ∼700 m above the chamber. The event will constitute the second beautiful candidate for a Centauro observed at the Pamirs. © 1987.1901-2226233Bayburina, (1981) Nucl. Phys. Double-differential yields of Ξ(1530)0\Xi\left(1530\right)^{0} and Ξ(1530)0\overline{\Xi}\left(1530\right)^{0} resonances produced in \pp interactions were measured at a laboratory beam momentum of 158~\GeVc. This measurement is the first of its kind in \pp interactions below LHC energies. It was performed at the CERN SPS by the \NASixtyOne collaboration. Double-differential distributions in rapidity and transverse momentum were obtained from a sample of 26\cdot106^6 inelastic events. The spectra are extrapolated to full phase space resulting in mean multiplicity of Ξ(1530)0\Xi\left(1530\right)^{0} (6.73 ±\pm 0.25 ±\pm 0.67)×104\times10^{-4} and Ξ(1530)0\overline{\Xi}\left(1530\right)^{0} (2.71 ±\pm 0.18 ±\pm 0.18)×104\times10^{-4}. The rapidity and transverse momentum spectra and mean multiplicities were compared to predictions of string-hadronic and statistical model calculations

International audienceThe production of Ξ(1321)\Xi (1321)^{-} and Ξ(1321)+\overline{\Xi }(1321)^{+} hyperons in inelastic p+p interactions is studied in a fixed target experiment at a beam momentum of 158 GeV ⁣/ ⁣c\hbox {Ge}\hbox {V}\!/\!c. Double differential distributions in rapidity y{y} and transverse momentum pTp_{T} are obtained from a sample of 33M inelastic events. They allow to extrapolate the spectra to full phase space and to determine the mean multiplicity of both Ξ{\Xi }{^-} and Ξ+\overline{\Xi }{^+} . The rapidity and transverse momentum spectra are compared to transport model predictions. The Ξ{\Xi }{^-} mean multiplicity in inelastic p+p interactions at 158 GeV ⁣/ ⁣c\hbox {Ge}\hbox {V}\!/\!c is used to quantify the strangeness enhancement in A+A collisions at the same centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair

    No full text
Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness of the use of a modified Zhukovsky double (vaginal and uterine) balloon to improve the results of treatment in women with obstetric hemorrhage. Methods:We conducted an observational controlled study including 701 puerperas, which were divided into two groups: The main group consisted of 508 women, who underwent a combined management, that is, traditional (transfusion of fresh frozen plasma, erythrocyte mass, uterotonics, hemostatic agents), surgical hemostasis in cases of caesarean section, and insertion of a double Zhukovsky balloon; while the comparison group included 193 patients, who were managed traditionally. The main group and the comparison group were divided into subgroups according to the main etiology of obstetric hemorrhage: IA and IB - postpartum; IIA and IIB - placenta accreta; IIIA and IIIB - postpartum hysterectomy. Results:The most frequent causes of massive obstetric hemorrhage were atony of the uterus (39.2%), placenta previa (29.1%), and placental abruption (11.5%). Of the 508 balloon insertions, 345 (70.7%) were inserted for hemorrhage during cesarean section and 148 (29.3%) for obstetric hemorrhage after spontaneous delivery. Among the obstetric hemorrhage at caesarean section, lower segment bleeding prevailed (78.1%), caused mainly by placenta previa, placenta accreta, placental abruption, polyhydramnios, and uterine scar defects. Combined management, including surgical hemostasis and insertion of vaginal and uterine balloon of Zhukovsky, reduced blood loss by 1.5 times and the number of hysterectomies by 6.72 times compared to controls. Conclusion:The use of a modified Zhukovsky double balloon in the management of obstetric hemorrhage may reduce the number of hysterectomies and the amount of blood loss. Study aim: To evaluate the effects of the combination of Arabin pessary or cervical cerclage with vaginal micronised progesterone versus micronised progesterone or no medical management on the outcomes of pregnancies in women with large uterine fibroids Materials and methods: This was a retrospective, observational, controlled study in 120 women aged 18–45 years with large uterine (≥8 cm) fibroids diagnosed in the first trimester, who underwent treatment in the regional perinatal center of the Omsk Regional Clinical Hospital between 2015 and 2019. Women in Group A (n = 90) were divided into two subgroups. In Subgroup А1 (n = 35), participants received the combination of a cervical procedure (Arabin pessary or cerclage) and micronised progesterone, and in Subgroup А2 (n = 55) all participants additionally underwent myomectomy. In Group B (n = 18), only micronised progesterone was used. In Group C (n = 12), no medical therapy was administered during pregnancy. Results: Large uterine fibroids in pregnancy were associated with a threatened pregnancy loss in 46.4% of women and pain in almost 40% of women. Myomectomy in pregnancy was performed in 55 women. The combination of Arabin pessary or cervical cerclage with micronized progesterone reduced the rates of preterm delivery by 2.2-fold versus the progesterone-only group and by 11.2-fold versus no medical management group (χ 2 = 19.4; p =.0001). Conclusion: The combination of Arabin pessary or cervical cerclage with micronized progesterone in our study helped achieve term deliveries in >90% of pregnant women with large fibroids. © 2021 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group

Analysis of risk factors and predictors of pregnancy loss and strategies for the management of cervical insufficiency in pregnant women at a high risk of preterm birth

Aim: To identify risk factors and predictors of pregnancy loss and to compare the efficacy of Arabin’s pessary with cervical cerclage in women at a high risk of pregnancy loss. Materials and methods: This was a two-center retrospective case-control study that included 240 women at a high risk of preterm delivery. Group I (n = 161) included women who underwent insertion of the Arabin’s pessary between 14 and 24 weeks of pregnancy. Group II (n = 79) included women who had undergone circular cervical cerclage during the current pregnancy. All women included in the study received micronized vaginal progesterone at the dose of 200 mg/day until and including 34 weeks of gestation. Results: Threatened pregnancy loss defined as spotting or vaginal bleeding in the first trimester was diagnosed in 29.8% (48/161) of patients in Group I versus 37.9% in Group II (p =.448). Postpartum bleeding occurred in 8.1% (13/161) in women in Group I versus 22.8% in Group II (χ2 = 6.500; p =.011). Our study showed that cervical cerclage was most suitable for patients with history of obstetric complications, cervical length <15 mm, and large isthmic uterine fibroids. The use of the Arabin’s pessary reduced the rate of preterm births by 1.7-fold. A cluster analysis demonstrated that predictors of preterm birth in women with a high risk of pregnancy loss included: threatened pregnancy loss associated with chorionic/placental abruption, cervical incompetence, uterine fibroid growth to a large size, history of multiple spontaneous pregnancy losses, cervical tears during past labor, and gestational diabetes diagnosed for the first time during the current pregnancy. Conclusions: Women with a high risk of pregnancy loss treated with Arabin’s pessary or cerclage plus vaginal progesterone had a term delivery rate of 70.4% (169/240). The combined strategy of pregnancy management allowed to markedly reduce the number of preterm births. © 2019, © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group

Objective: Russian Oregano (Origanum vulgare L.) and Turkish oregano (Origanum onites L.) are pharmacopoeial plants that are used for producing medicinal plant raw materials (crude herbal drugs). The aim of the study was to determine the composition and content of biologically active substances in Origanum crude herbal drugs. Materials and methods: Complex of modern physicochemical methods was used in pharmacognostical research. Thin-layer chromatography, gas-liquid chromatography was applied for the determination of crude herbal drugs composition. The content of total flavonoids in terms of cynaroside was determined by differential UV spectrophotometry, total tannins content – by redox titration, essential oil – by distillation. Microscopic analysis was performed on a Biomed-C2 microscope with 5×, 10× eyepieces, 4×, 10× and 40× objectives, photographies – were taken with a Canon Power Short SX 210 IS digital camera. Results: Thymol is a dominant component in essential oil. Two species contain a cynaroside (flavonoid). The content of essential oil in O. vulgare and O. onites herb was 0.12±0.03% and 2.60±0.02% respectively; the total flavonoids in terms of cinaroside – 0.98±0.02% and 1.25±0.01%; total polyphenols – 11.54±0.35% and 19.43± 0.72% (condensed polyphenols precipitated by gelatin – 4.94±0.15% and 13.62±0.21%); ascorbic acid – 0.35± 0.05% and 0.40±0.06%. Existing ones were modified and a number of new unified procedures were developed, allowing qualitative and quantitative analysis of phenolic compounds in O. vulgare and O. onites herb. A complex of anatomical and diagnostic features (the structure of the stomatal complex, simple hairs, ethereal-oil glands) was established to carry out CHD identification. Conclusion: Composition and content of the polyphenolic complex and hydrophilic biologically active compounds of Origanum vulgare L. and Origanum onites L. crude herbal drugs (CHD) were determined. The obtained data will be used to improve the existing regulatory documentation for Origanum crude herbal drugs standardization. © RJPT All right reserved
