    El Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior (EEES) incorpora al proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje competencias genéricas y específicas con el objetivo de preparar a los futuros profesionales. El profesional en Criminología requiere de una elevada fortaleza emocional para el correcto desempeño de sus actividades profesionales. El objetivo de esta red es el diseño de nuevas metodologías y prácticas docentes, entre asignaturas de diferentes niveles de enseñanza, para potenciar el desarrollo de las competencias emocionales en el alumnado. Se presentan los resultados obtenidos de la evaluación en competencias emocionales de una muestra representativa de alumnos/as de último curso en el Grado en Criminología, con el propósito de detectar las necesidades formativas en este ámbito, y se describe el diseño de nuevas metodologías y prácticas docentes en asignaturas de primer y último año del Grado en Criminología

    La adquisición de competencias profesionales es un objetivo prioritario dentro del marco del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior. El abordaje de la inteligencia emocional en el profesional en Criminología es importante, ya que en el desempeño de sus funciones requiere de una elevada fortaleza emocional. En este sentido, la competencia emocional que el estudiante del Grado en Criminología adquiera en su proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje es un elemento clave en su futura práctica profesional. El objetivo del presente estudio es evaluar la capacidad de reconocer, comprender y regular los estados emocionales en estudiantes en Criminología. Ha participado una muestra representativa de 52 estudiantes universitarios matriculados en la asignatura optativa Profiling: perfil psicológico del delincuente de cuarto curso del Grado en Criminología de la Universidad de Alicante. Los instrumentos utilizados son el autoinforme Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS-24) y el programa Facial Action Coding System (FACS). Se presentan los resultados obtenidos de la evaluación de las competencias emocionales del alumnado con el propósito de detectar las necesidades formativas en este ámbito

    Competencias emocionales en estudiantes del Grado en Criminología: diferencias de sexo y curso académico

    Este estudio pretende evaluar las competencias emocionales que poseen los estudiantes de primer y cuarto curso del Grado en Criminología de la Universidad de Alicante, analizando si existen diferencias significativas en función del sexo y curso. Ha participado una muestra representativa formada por 124 estudiantes, 58 de primer curso y 66 de último curso del Grado en Criminología de la Universidad de Alicante (España). Los instrumentos utilizados son el autoinforme Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS-24) y el programa Facial Action Coding System. Los resultados obtenidos muestran un mejor desempeño en las dimensiones reconocimiento y claridad emocional de los estudiantes de cuarto curso. No se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en función del sexo. Teniendo en cuenta los resultados obtenidos, consideramos que es importante integrar dentro de la formación universitaria del grado en criminología métodos de enseñanza-aprendizaje que favorezcan el desarrollo de competencias emocionales como la regulación emocional, siendo de especial relevancia dado que los profesionales de criminología frecuentemente se enfrentan a situaciones que demandan elevadas competencias emocionales en su desarrollo profesional

    Resilience among primary care professionals in a time of pandemic: a qualitative study in the Spanish context

    Objectives: This study explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Spanish primary care structure and services and the mechanisms implemented by the primary care workforce to restore and reinforce their reference care model. Design: An exploratory, qualitative study with semistructured interviews and a focus group discussion conducted during the fall semester of 2020. Setting: Primary health centres in Madrid (Spain), chosen based on factors such as infection rates during the earliest stages of the pandemic and demographic and socioeconomic aspects. Participants: A total of 19 primary health and social care professionals were purposively selected. Criteria for inclusion were gender (male/female), at least 5 years of experience in their current position, category (health/social/administrative worker), and whether they worked in a rural or urban healthcare setting. Results: Two main themes were identified: (1) reflecting on a model in crisis-particularly the reopening of centres to users and the proactive, participative strategies implemented by primary care professionals to reach their community; and (2) regaining a sense of purpose-how healthcare professionals implemented strategies to sustain their vision of their reference model. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed leadership deficiencies that, together with the initial unavailability of resources and difficulties maintaining face-to-face contact with users, triggered a sense of loss of professional identity. On the other hand, the analysis revealed potential strategies to restore and reinforce the traditional model, such as the adoption of digital technologies and reliance on community networks. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of a solid reference framework and enhances the strengths and skills of the workforce to reinforce the community-based service provision model.This work was supported by Banco Santander, in collaboration with the Spanish National Research Council, which has supported this project through the Fondo Supera COVID-19 (06-2.3-4-2020).S

    Enfermedad Meningocócica en España. Análisis de la temporada 2016-2017

    [ES] La enfermedad meningocócica es de declaración obligatoria en España. Los casos se notifican de manera individualizada con periodicidad semanal, incluyendo información epidemiológica y microbiológica a través de la Red Nacional de Vigilancia Epidemiológica (RENAVE). La presentación de esta enfermedad en la población española ha sufrido cambios muy importantes. El uso de la vacuna frente al serogrupo C ha causado un gran descenso de la incidencia por este serogrupo. Además en la última década también han disminuido los casos por serogrupo B. En la temporada 2016-2017 se notificaron 321 casos, de los que se confirmaron 270 y la incidencia fue de 0,58 por 100.000 habitantes. Se presenta el análisis de los resultados generales de la vigilancia epidemiológica de la enfermedad meningocócica para la temporada 2016-2017 en España y su comparación con las previas.[EN] Meningococcal disease is notifiable in Spain. The cases were notified individually on a weekly basis, including epidemiological and microbiological information through the National Network of Epidemiological Surveillance (RENAVE). The incidence of this disease in the Spanish population has undergone very important changes. Vaccination against serogroup C has caused a large decrease in the incidence of this serogroup. In addition, in the last decade cases caused by serogroup B have also decreased. In the 2016-2017 season, 321 cases were notified, of which 270 were confirmed and the incidence was 0.58 per 100,000 inhabitants. We analyzed the results of the epidemiological surveillance of meningococcal disease for the 2016-2017 season in Spain and its comparison with the previous ones.N

    Anatomical characterization of central, apical and minimal corneal thickness

    <b>AIM:</b> To anatomically locate the points of minimum corneal thickness and central corneal thickness (pupil center) in relation to the corneal apex.<b>METHODS:</b> Observational, cross-sectional study, 299 healthy volunteers. Thickness at the corneal apex (AT), minimum corneal thickness (MT) and corneal thickness at the pupil center (PT) were determined using the pentacam. Distances from the corneal apex to MT (MD) and PT (PD) were calculated and their quadrant position (taking the corneal apex as the reference) determined:point of minimum thickness (MC) and point of central thickness (PC) depending on the quadrant position. Two multivariate linear regression models were constructed to examine the influence of age, gender, power of the flattest and steepest corneal axes, position of the flattest axis, corneal volume (determined using the Pentacam) and PT on MD and PD. The effects of these variables on MC and PC were also determined in two multinomial regression models.<b>RESULTS:</b> MT was located at a mean distance of 0.909 mm from the apex (79.4% in the inferior-temporal quadrant). PT was located at a mean distance of 0.156 mm from the apex. The linear regression model for MD indicated it was significantly influenced by corneal volume (B=-0.024; 95%CI:-0.043 to -0.004). No significant relations were identified in the linear regression model for PD or the multinomial logistic regressions for MC and PC.<b>CONCLUSION:</b> MT was typically located at the inferior-temporal quadrant of the cornea and its distance to the corneal apex tended to decrease with the increment of corneal volume

    Bioenergetic and Autophagic Characterization of Skin Fibroblasts from C9orf72 Patients.

    The objective of this study is to describe the alterations occurring during the neurodegenerative process in skin fibroblast cultures from C9orf72 patients. We characterized the oxidative stress, autophagy flux, small ubiquitin-related protein SUMO2/3 levels as well as the mitochondrial function in skin fibroblast cultures from C9orf72 patients. All metabolic and bioenergetic findings were further correlated with gene expression data obtained from RNA sequencing analysis. Fibroblasts from C9orf72 patients showed a 30% reduced expression of C9orf72, ~3-fold increased levels of oxidative stress and impaired mitochondrial function obtained by measuring the enzymatic activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes, specifically of complex III activity. Furthermore, the results also reveal that C9orf72 patients showed an accumulation of p62 protein levels, suggesting the alteration of the autophagy process, and significantly higher protein levels of SUMO2/3 (p = 0.03). Our results provide new data reinforcing that C9orf72 cells suffer from elevated oxidative damage to biomolecules and organelles and from increased protein loads, leading to insufficient autophagy and an increase in SUMOylation processes

    RNA-Seq reveals the existence of a CDKN1C-E2F1-TP53 axis that is altered in human T-cell lymphoblastic lymphomas

    BACKGROUND: Precursor T-cell lymphoblastic lymphomas (T-LBL) are rare aggressive hematological malignancies that mainly develop in children. As in other cancers, the loss of cell cycle control plays a prominent role in the pathogenesis in these malignancies that is primarily attributed to loss of CDKN2A (encoding protein p16INK4A). However, the impact of the deregulation of other genes such as CDKN1C, E2F1, and TP53 remains to be clarified. Interestingly, experiments in mouse models have proven that conditional T-cell specific deletion of Cdkn1c gene may induce a differentiation block at the DN3 to DN4 transition, and that the loss of this gene in the absence of Tp53 led to aggressive thymic lymphomas. RESULTS: In this manuscript, we demonstrated that the simultaneous deregulation of CDKN1C, E2F1, and TP53 genes by epigenetic mechanisms and/or the deregulation of specific microRNAs, together with additional impairing of TP53 function by the expression of dominant-negative isoforms are common features in primary human T-LBLs. CONCLUSIONS: Previous experimental work in mice revealed that T-cell specific deletion of Cdkn1c accelerates lymphomagenesis in the absence of Tp53. If, as expected, the consequences of the deregulation of the CDKN1C-E2F1-TP53 axis were the same as those experimentally demonstrated in mouse models, the disruption of this axis might be useful to predict tumor aggressiveness, and to provide the basis towards the development of potential therapeutic strategiesin human T-LBL.The authors would like to thank the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (SAF2015–70561-R; MINECO/FEDER, EU) and the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Spain (B2017/BMD-3778; LINFOMAS-CM) for funding this work. Drug repurposing offers a fast track. Here, we discuss the potential beneficial effects of statins in COVID-19 patients based on evidence that they may target virus receptors, replication, degradation, and downstream responses in infected cells, addressing both basic research and epidemiological information. Briefly, statins could modulate virus entry, acting on the SARS-CoV-2 receptors, ACE2 and CD147, and/or lipid rafts engagement. Statins, by inducing autophagy activation, could regulate virus replication or degradation, exerting protective effects. The well-known anti-inflammatory properties of statins, by blocking several molecular mechanisms, including NF-κB and NLRP3 inflammasomes, could limit the "cytokine storm" in severe COVID-19 patients which is linked to fatal outcome.     El objetivo de esta red fue implantar nuevas metodologías y prácticas docentes, entre asignaturas de diferentes niveles de enseñanza, para potenciar el desarrollo de las competencias emocionales en el alumnado. Se presentan los resultados obtenidos de la evaluación en competencias emocionales de una muestra representativa de 120 estudiantes de primer curso en el Grado en Criminología y en el Grado de DeCrim con un doble propósito, por un lado detectar las necesidades formativas en este ámbito, y por otro iniciar un diseño longitudinal para evaluar las mejoras de las competencias emocionales a lo largo del tiempo. Por último, se muestran los resultados obtenidos en una encuesta elaborada ad hoc sobre la satisfacción de 133 estudiantes tras la implantación de nuevas prácticas de problemas donde se incorpora el entrenamiento en competencias emocionales
