Sobre la elaboración del garum y otros productos piscícolas en las costas béticas

Over the last years, the systematization of a wide range of archaelogical findings, related to the manufacture and distribution of salted-fi sh and fish-sauces of the Southern Coast of Hispania has been carried out, and it has provided the archaeological knowledge with a solid documentary basis to study this area of the hispanic ancient economy. Even though, it is necessary to suggest and explore some new historical hypothesis,inferred from the critical study of this material fi ndings and the re-reading of the literary and epigraphic sources,to surpass the risk of perpetuating the development of accumulative works exclusively based on archaeological data, being lattest unhelpful themselves to elaborate a Socioeconomic History of the Baetican coasts

La producción de ánforas tardopúnicas Mañá Ces ampliamente documentada entre las formas elaboradas en las alfarerías de la bahía gaditana. Su conocimiento aparece como instrumento para la investigación de la economía gaditana entre los siglos II a. C. y I d. C.The production of tardo-punic amphoras Mañá C is widely reported among the made forms in the production centres of pottery of the Bay of Cádiz. Its knoledgement emerges like an instrument for the investiugation of the Gades economy between II B.C . - I A .D. centuries

EL ABASTECIMIENTO DEL AGUA EN LAS CIUDADES DE BAETICA. CONSIDERACIONES SOBRE LA CAPTACIÓN HÍDRICA

The study of the water supply to the cities within the Roman Empire is being tackled from varied perspectives, and this article raises some issues under-represented in our historiography, such as those relating to the process of rationalization in the Latin culture’s perception of water and hydrological knowledge. It discusses the casuistry that affected the various systems of water collection for the urban water supply system (illustrated by the imperial capital and projected to the provincial area). It also deals with the state of the Baetican physical environment in Antiquity and the knowledge of those who designed hydraulic works. It reflects on the best known capita aquarum in Baetica and the legal and political implications that could lead to its appropriation for affected communities. This article aims to expand the approaches from which these issues are being addressed currently by Hispanic researchEl estudio del abastecimiento de agua a las ciudades en el marco del imperio romano vienesiendo abordado desde perspectivas cada vez más variadas. En este artículo se plantean algunas cuestiones poco representadas en nuestra historiografía, como aquéllas relativas al proceso de racionalización en la cultura latina de la percepción del agua y el conocimiento hidrológico, o la casuística que afecta a los diversos sistemas de captación del agua para el abastecimiento urbano, ejemplificada en el caso de la capital imperial y proyectada al espacio provincial; también se llama la atención sobre el estado del medio físico bético enla Antigüedad y su conocimiento por parte de quienes diseñaron las obras hidráulicas, asícomo se propone una reflexión sobre los capita aquarum mejor conocidos en Baetica y las implicaciones jurídicas y políticas que su apropiación pudieran comportar para las comunidades afectadas. Todo ello esbozado pero con el afán de ampliar los enfoques desde los cuales estas cuestiones vienen siendo abordadas actualmente por la investigación hispana

O tema do uso da água numa cidade romana é extremamente complexo,não só pelas diferentes perspetivas de abordagem, mas também pela escassez de dadosdisponíveis. Como tentativa resposta a esta problemática optámos por dividir o temaem duas partes, uma primeira alusiva às diferentes perspetivas de investigação sobreo tema da água, e uma segunda dando como exemplo de estudo a cidade romana deBracara Augusta.The use of the water in a Roman city is an extremely complex topic ofdiscussion, not only because there are different approaches to the subject, but alsobecause there are very few available data. In an attempt to respond to this issue wehave chosen to divide the topic into two parts: firstly we focus our attention on thedifferent research perspectives concerning the theme of water, and secondly we usethe Roman city of Bracara Augusta as a case study

El análisis de ciertos registros epigráficos conservados sobre ánforas béticas de salazones, procedentes del depósito documentado por Dressel en los fosos de los Castra Praetoria, nos permite plantear algunas reflexiones relativas a la composición y función de determinados sectores de la sociedad del litoral bético en la primera mitad del siglo I d.C. y sus precedentes republicanos. Los elementos onomásticos que se analizan tienen la particularidad de hallarse conectados a una actividad de gran importancia en las comunidades de esa época y espacio: la producción y el comercio de alimentos derivados del mar.The analysis of several inscriptions preserved on Baetican amphorae of salted fish and fish sauce, which came from the find documented by Dressel in pits of Castra Praetoria, provides an insight into the composition and function of certain sectors of society on the Baetican coast in the first half of the 1st century A.D., and their Republican precedents. The onomastic elements analyzed are characterized by being connected to an activity that was very important for the communities of that time and place: producing and selling processed seafood
