Asymmetric fiscal and monetary policies: a two country model of european integration

    Get PDF
We use a 2-country model to analyze fiscal and monetary interactions in a Monetary union. Both countries are integrated and experience spillovers from their partners’ fiscal policies. Wesolve for Monetary Leadership - the Central Bank commits to an inflation target and the fiscalpolicymakers optimize spending - and for Fiscal Leadership - the Central Bank chooses its pre-ferred rate given exogenously defined fiscal policies. High inflation aversion and small outputgaps in one country can generate overspending in their integrated partners. Country weights determined by the Central Bank affect its policy making by overlooking smaller countries

The Morphology of Type Ia Supernovae Light Curves

We present a family of six BVI template light curves for SNe Ia for days -5 and +80, based on high-quality data gathered at CTIO. These templates display a wide range of light curve morphologies, with initial decline rates of their B light curves between m15(B)=0.87 mag and 1.93 mag. We use these templates to study the general morphology of SNe Ia light curves. We find that several of the main features of the BVI templates correlate tightly with m15(B). In particular, the V light curves, which are probably a reasonably good approximation of the bolometric light curves, display an orderly progression in shapes between the most-luminous, slowest-declining events and the least-luminous, fastest-declining SNe. This supports the idea that the observed spectroscopic and photometric sequences of SNe Ia are due primarily to one parameter. Nevertheless, SNe with very similar initial decline rates do show significant differences in their light curve properties when examined in detail, suggesting the influence of one or more secondary parameters.Comment: 32 pages, 15 figures, to appear in the Astronomical Journa

Mineral Chemistry and U-Pb Garnet Geochronology of Strongly Reduced Tungsten Skarns at the Pampa de Olaen Mining district, Córdoba, Argentina

    Get PDF
Los Guindos scheelite (±Zn, Bi, Sn, Ag) skarn presents mineral assemblages and a mineral chemistry similar to other worldwide strongly reduced W skarn deposits. Its reduced nature is defined based on the predominance of subcalcic garnets, Mo-free scheelite and absence of magnetite. Both the prograde and retrograde stages are evident at Los Guindos scheelite skarn. The prograde skarn is characterized by three zones: A zone I of garnet + helvine (Gr57Sps24Ad19Alm8 - Sps50Alm24Gr22Ad3; Grt + Hlv); a zone II of clinopyroxene + garnet (Di67Hd24Jo9 + Gr66Sps19Ad12Alm3; Cpx + Grt) and a zone III of garnet + vesuvianite (Gr73Ad22Sps3Alm2 - Gr58Sps22Ad10Alm9; Grt + Ves). Retrograde skarn is mainly represented by epidote - actinolite and minor F-rich actinolite (0.663 apfu of F) – potassium feldspar - chlorite (chamosite/clinochlore: ∼ 50/50) – muscovite – calcite - quartz. A hydrothermal stage developed in temporal continuity with retrograde skarn formed variable infilling associations of the following species: epidote – actinolite – scheelite – fluorite – calcite – quartz – sphalerite and chlorite. Scheelite mineralization process was triggered by an increase of Ca released during retrograde skarn replacements and was deposited during the following hydrothermal infilling stage. Other than sphalerite, minor bismuthinite and tetradymite, andorite, lillianite, gustavite, matildite and kësterite occur as hydrothermal associations after scheelite deposition. Scheelite-free reaction skarn preceding scheelite skarns was observed. Geobarometric calculations in this reaction skarn suggests an initial confining pressure of 2.5 kbar for the Los Guindos scheelite skarns. This pressure matches the estimated emplacement pressure of the Devonian-Carboniferous Achala batholith reported by previous authors. Geochemical correlation analyses suggest that this magmatism may have contributed mineralizing fluids channeled through regional structures and lithological contacts, causing infiltration metasomatism that originated scheelite (±Zn, Bi, Sn, Ag) mineralization in Cambrian and Ordovician country rocks. U-Pb analyses (LA-ICP-MS) of garnet in the Los Guindos scheelite skarn gave an age of 361 ± 11 Ma representing the age of the prograde stage of scheelite skarns and it should be framed within the Devonian-Carboniferous Metallogenic Epoch.Fil: Espeche, María José. Mindfulness and job control as moderators of the relationships between demands and innovative work behaviours

Innovation enables organizations to respond successfully to rapid changes in a business environment. This innovation capability largely relies on employees. Although workers are required to be innovative, their jobs frequently contain higher demands that might make it difficult for them to innovate at work. The Job Demands-Control model active hypothesis suggests that highly demanding jobs that allow individuals enough discretion enhance innovative performance. Improving an important attentional resource such as mindfulness at work might also play a similar role, although there is a need for more research at this level. The main aim of this study is to examine the relative contribution of job control and increases in mindfulness as moderators in the job demands-innovation work behaviours relationship. The results obtained with 221 workers indicated that in previous situations characterized by high job demands (T1), workers who increase their capacity for mindfulness are more innovative in the future (T2)

Thisresearch was conducted in 2008aimed to determine to what extent the adoptionof the Social Balance Sheet (BS) can assist the process of evaluation of institutionalperformance in the social area of Joaquim Nabuco Foundation (Fundaj), through abetter quality of information disclosed to their internal stakeholders. It used thedeductive method. In regard of the type, this research can be consideredquantitative, being carried through the use of a case study.Data collection took placethrough application ofa questionnaire at two points: first, the respondents wereasked to read the Management Report (RG) of the institutionfor fiscal year2006and answer the questionnaire with questions that sought to evaluate the degree ofperception of the servers on thedisclosure of social actions undertaken by Fundaj, described in that report. Subsequently, the BS was prepared, which was senttogether with a second questionnaire to respondents who participated in the firstphase of research. The data from questionnaires for the RG and BS were analyzedseparately and in combination, through comparative study. In regard of nature of thecollected data, the descriptive and non parametric statistics tests were used: Mann-Whitney U, Crosstab and Chi-square.Given the comparison of the responses foundthat there was an improvement in perception of the quality of information regardingsocial actions undertaken by Fundaj. Another important factor found in researchrefers to the fact that 100% of respondents said that the institution should take theBS as a tool of accountability to society
