In this research, aqueous and ethanolic extracts from Justicia pectoralis Jacq and Croton Jacobinensis Baill were characterized. The UPLC-QTOF-MSE analysis was performed on the extracts identified, predominantly, flavonoids, tannins and acids. The extracts did not indicate toxicity in human epithelial cells. C. jacobinensis presented a concentration of phenolics 60.5% higher than J. pectoralis in all scenarios evaluated and, for both samples, the hydroalcoholic extract at 70% exhibited the best efficiency in the extraction (14501.3 and 32521.5 mg GAE 100 g-1 for J. pectoralis and C. jacobinensis, respectively). The antioxidant activity presented a positive correlation with the concentration of phenolics, being 1.186,1 and 1.507,9 μM of Trolox for J. pectoralis and C. jacobinensis at 70% of ethanol; however, it was not verified statistical difference between the ethanolic solutions (p < 0.05). The antimicrobial activity of J. pectoralis extracts was highlighted once was the most effective against gram-positive bacteria. The results suggest that both J. pectoralis and C. jacobinensis extracts present the potential to be applied as natural additives due to their antioxidant and antimicrobial activity and safety. Thus, it is suggesting the development of studies that could investigate the interaction of these plant extracts with food matrices is required

Deep neural network-estimated electrocardiographic age as a mortality predictor

The electrocardiogram (ECG) is the most commonly used exam for the evaluation of cardiovascular diseases. Here we propose that the age predicted by artificial intelligence (AI) from the raw ECG (ECG-age) can be a measure of cardiovascular health. A deep neural network is trained to predict a patient’s age from the 12-lead ECG in the CODE study cohort (n = 1,558,415 patients). On a 15% hold-out split, patients with ECG-age more than 8 years greater than the chronological age have a higher mortality rate (hazard ratio (HR) 1.79, p < 0.001), whereas those with ECG-age more than 8 years smaller, have a lower mortality rate (HR 0.78, p < 0.001). Similar results are obtained in the external cohorts ELSA-Brasil (n = 14,236) and SaMi-Trop (n = 1,631). Moreover, even for apparent normal ECGs, the predicted ECG-age gap from the chronological age remains a statistically significant risk predictor. These results show that the AI-enabled analysis of the ECG can add prognostic information

Get PDF
O presente trabalho relata a realização de um estudo exploratório sobre o reconhecimento de emoções em expressões faciais (REEF) em uma amostra de adultos brasileiros. Participaram do estudo 118 estudantes universitários.

Tele-electrocardiography and bigdata: the CODE (Clinical Outcomes in Digital Electrocardiography) study

Get PDF
Digital electrocardiographs are now widely available and a large number of digital electrocardiograms (ECGs) have been recorded and stored. The present study describes the development and clinical applications of a large database of such digital ECGs, namely the CODE (Clinical Outcomes in Digital Electrocardiology) study. ECGs obtained by the Telehealth Network of Minas Gerais, Brazil, from 2010 to 17, were organized in a structured database. A hierarchical free-text machine learning algorithm recognized specific ECG diagnoses from cardiologist reports. The Glasgow ECG Analysis Program provided Minnesota Codes and automatic diagnostic statements. The presence of a specific ECG abnormality was considered when both automatic and medical diagnosis were concordant; cases of discordance were decided using heuristisc rules and manual review. The ECG database was linked to the national mortality information system using probabilistic linkage methods. From 2,470,424 ECGs, 1,773,689 patients were identified. After excluding the ECGs with technical problems and patients <16 years-old, 1,558,415 patients were studied. High performance measures were obtained using an end-to-end deep neural network trained to detect 6 types of ECG abnormalities, with F1 scores >80% and specificity >99% in an independent test dataset. We also evaluated the risk of mortality associated with the presence of atrial fibrillation (AF), which showed that AF was a strong predictor of cardiovascular mortality and mortality for all causes, with increased risk in women. In conclusion, a large database that comprises all ECGs performed by a large telehealth network can be useful for further developments in the field of digital electrocardiography, clinical cardiology and cardiovascular epidemiology

Conceptualization, Definition and Assessment of Internal Logistics through Different Approaches Using Artificial Intelligence

Get PDF
The aim of this chapter is to develop a new concept of internal logistics, its components parts and how to evaluate it. To quantify the level of performance of the internal logistics of a company is an important issue to gain competitiveness. There are few papers now at days that analyze how to quantify this issue. In recent years, it has been developed numerous applications of Fuzzy logic and Neural Networks to solve diverse problems of Engineering. Fuzzy logic is a mathematical tool that emulates the method used for humans for managing and processing information and Neural Networks are computing systems inspired by the biological neural networks that constitute human brains. Such systems “learn” to perform tasks by considering examples, generally without being programmed with task-specific rules. This chapter offers a new definition of internal logistics and shows the procedure to evaluate its level in a company. This procedure for assessing the internal logistics was developed through an Excel tab, a fuzzy inference system and a neural network. To validate this procedure, it was applied to 93 companies in the Industrial Pole of Manaus. Results obtained by different approaches are very similar, demonstrating the validity of the procedure developed

Classification of schizophrenic traits in transcriptions of audio spectra from patient literature: artificial intelligence models enhanced by geometric properties

Get PDF
Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness that affects approximately 1% of the global population and presents significant challenges for patients, families, and healthcare professionals. Characterized by symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech or behavior, and cognitive impairment, this condition has an early onset and chronic trajectory, making it a debilitating challenge. Schizophrenia also imposes a substantial burden on society, exacerbated by the stigma associated with mental disorders. Technological advancements, such as computerized semantic, linguistic, and acoustic analyses, are revolutionizing the understanding and assessment of communication alterations, a significant aspect in various severe mental illnesses. Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial for improving prognosis and implementing appropriate treatments. In this context, the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has provided new perspectives for the treatment of schizophrenia, with machine learning techniques and natural language processing allowing a more detailed analysis of clinical, neurological, and behavioral data sets. The present article aims to present a proposal for computational models for the identification of schizophrenic traits in texts. The database used in this article was created with 139 excerpts of patients' speeches reported in the book “Memories of My Nervous Disease” by German judge Daniel Paul Schreber, classifying them into three categories: 1 - schizophrenic, 2 - with schizophrenic traits and 3 - without any relation to the disorder. Of these speeches, 104 were used for training the models and the others 35 for validation.Three classification models were implemented using features based on geometric properties of graphs (number of vertices, number of cycles, girth, vertex of maximum degree, maximum clique size) and text entropy. Promising results were observed in the classification, with the Decision Tree-based model [1] achieving 100% accuracy, the KNN- k-Nearest Neighbor model observed with 62.8% accuracy, and the 'centrality-based' model with 59% precision. The high precision rates, observed when geometric properties are incorporated into Artificial Intelligence Models, suggest that the models can be improved to the point of capturing the language deviation traits that are indicative of schizophrenic disorders. In summary, this study paves the way for significant advances in the use of geometric properties in the field of psychiatry, offering a new data-based approach to the understanding and therapy of schizophrenia
