Collinear and Soft Limits of Multi-Loop Integrands in N=4 Yang-Mills
It has been argued in arXiv:1112.6432 that the planar four-point integrand in
N=4 super Yang-Mills theory is uniquely determined by dual conformal invariance
together with the absence of a double pole in the integrand of the logarithm in
the limit as a loop integration variable becomes collinear with an external
momentum. In this paper we reformulate this condition in a simple way in terms
of the amplitude itself, rather than its logarithm, and verify that it holds
for two- and three-loop MHV integrands for n>4. We investigate the extent to
which this collinear constraint and a constraint on the soft behavior of
integrands can be used to determine integrands. We find an interesting
complementarity whereby the soft constraint becomes stronger while the
collinear constraint becomes weaker at larger n. For certain reasonable choices
of basis at two and three loops the two constraints in unison appear strong
enough to determine MHV integrands uniquely for all n.Comment: 27 pages, 14 figures; v2: very minor change
Symbols of One-Loop Integrals From Mixed Tate Motives
We use a result on mixed Tate motives due to Goncharov
(arXiv:alg-geom/9601021) to show that the symbol of an arbitrary one-loop
2m-gon integral in 2m dimensions may be read off directly from its Feynman
parameterization. The algorithm proceeds via recursion in m seeded by the
well-known box integrals in four dimensions. As a simple application of this
method we write down the symbol of a three-mass hexagon integral in six

Mellin Amplitudes for Dual Conformal Integrals
Motivated by recent work on the utility of Mellin space for representing
conformal correlators in /CFT, we study its suitability for representing
dual conformal integrals of the type which appear in perturbative scattering
amplitudes in super-Yang-Mills theory. We discuss Feynman-like rules for
writing Mellin amplitudes for a large class of integrals in any dimension, and
find explicit representations for several familiar toy integrals. However we
show that the power of Mellin space is that it provides simple representations
even for fully massive integrals, which except for the single case of the
4-mass box have not yet been computed by any available technology. Mellin space
is also useful for exhibiting differential relations between various multi-loop
integrals, and we show that certain higher-loop integrals may be written as
integral operators acting on the fully massive scalar -gon in
dimensions, whose Mellin amplitude is exactly 1. Our chief example is a very
simple formula expressing the 6-mass double box as a single integral of the
6-mass scalar hexagon in 6 dimensions.Comment: 29+7 page
Convergence of asymptotic systems of non-autonomous neural network models with infinite distributed delays
In this paper we investigate the global convergence of solutions of non-autonomous Hopfield neural network models with discrete time-varying delays, infinite distributed delays, and possible unbounded coefficient functions. Instead of using Lyapunov functionals, we explore intrinsic features between the non-autonomous systems and their asymptotic systems to ensure the boundedness and global convergence of the solutions of the studied models. Our results are new and complement known results in the literature. Developing a digital intervention for cancer survivors: an evidence-, theory- and person-based approach
This paper illustrates a rigorous approach to developing digital interventions using an evidence-, theory- and person-based approach. Intervention planning included a rapid scoping review which identified cancer survivors’ needs, including barriers and facilitators to intervention success. Review evidence (N=49 papers) informed the intervention’s Guiding Principles, theory-based behavioural analysis and logic model. The intervention was optimised based on feedback on a prototype intervention through interviews (N=96) with cancer survivors and focus groups with NHS staff and cancer charity workers (N=31). Interviews with cancer survivors highlighted barriers to engagement, such as concerns about physical activity worsening fatigue. Focus groups highlighted concerns about support appointment length and how to support distressed participants. Feedback informed intervention modifications, to maximise acceptability, feasibility and likelihood of behaviour change. Our systematic method for understanding user views enabled us to anticipate and address important barriers to engagement. This methodology may be useful to others developing digital interventions
Local and systemic effect of transfection-reagent formulated DNA vectors on equine melanoma
Background Equine melanoma has a high incidence in grey horses. Xenogenic DNA
vaccination may represent a promising therapeutic approach against equine
melanoma as it successfully induced an immunological response in other species
suffering from melanoma and in healthy horses. In a clinical study, twenty-
seven, grey, melanoma-bearing, horses were assigned to three groups (n = 9)
and vaccinated on days 1, 22, and 78 with DNA vectors encoding for equine (eq)
IL-12 and IL-18 alone or in combination with either human glycoprotein (hgp)
100 or human tyrosinase (htyr). Horses were vaccinated intramuscularly, and
one selected melanoma was locally treated by intradermal peritumoral
injection. Prior to each injection and on day 120, the sizes of up to nine
melanoma lesions per horse were measured by caliper and ultrasound. Specific
serum antibodies against hgp100 and htyr were measured using cell based flow-
cytometric assays. An Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) for repeated measurements
was performed to identify statistically significant influences on the relative
tumor volume. For post-hoc testing a Tukey-Kramer Multiple-Comparison Test was
performed to compare the relative volumes on the different examination days.
An ANOVA for repeated measurements was performed to analyse changes in body
temperature over time. A one-way ANOVA was used to evaluate differences in
body temperature between the groups. A p–value < 0.05 was considered
significant for all statistical tests applied. Results In all groups, the
relative tumor volume decreased significantly to 79.1 ± 26.91% by day 120 (p <
0.0001, Tukey-Kramer Multiple-Comparison Test). Affiliation to treatment
group, local treatment and examination modality had no significant influence
on the results (ANOVA for repeated measurements). Neither a cellular nor a
humoral immune response directed against htyr or hgp100 was detected. Horses
had an increased body temperature on the day after vaccination. Conclusions
This is the first clinical report on a systemic effect against equine melanoma
following treatment with DNA vectors encoding eqIL12 and eqIL18 and formulated
with a transfection reagent. Addition of DNA vectors encoding hgp100
respectively htyr did not potentiate this effect
Guidelines for autopsy investigation of sudden cardiac death: 2017 update from the Association for European Cardiovascular Pathology.
Although sudden cardiac death (SCD) is one of the most important modes of death in Western countries, pathologists and public health physicians have not given this problem the attention it deserves. New methods of preventing potentially fatal arrhythmias have been developed and the accurate diagnosis of the causes of SCD is now of particular importance. Pathologists are responsible for determining the precise cause and mechanism of sudden death but there is still considerable variation in the way in which they approach this increasingly complex task. The Association for European Cardiovascular Pathology has developed these guidelines, which represent the minimum standard that is required in the routine autopsy practice for the adequate investigation of SCD. The present version is an update of our original article, published 10 years ago. This is necessary because of our increased understanding of the genetics of cardiovascular diseases, the availability of new diagnostic methods, and the experience we have gained from the routine use of the original guidelines. The updated guidelines include a detailed protocol for the examination of the heart and recommendations for the selection of histological blocks and appropriate material for toxicology, microbiology, biochemistry, and molecular investigation. Our recommendations apply to university medical centers, regionals hospitals, and all healthcare professionals practicing pathology and forensic medicine. We believe that their adoption throughout Europe will improve the standards of autopsy practice, allow meaningful comparisons between different communities and regions, and permit the identification of emerging patterns of diseases causing SCD. Finally, we recommend the development of regional multidisciplinary networks of cardiologists, geneticists, and pathologists. Their role will be to facilitate the identification of index cases with a genetic basis, to screen appropriate family members, and ensure that appropriate preventive strategies are implemented
Astrocytes grown in Alvetex® 3 dimensional scaffolds retain a non-reactive phenotype
yesProtocols which permit the extraction of primary astrocytes from either embryonic or postnatal mice are well established however astrocytes in culture are different to those in the mature CNS. Three dimensional (3D) cultures, using a variety of scaffolds may enable better phenotypic properties to be developed in culture. We present data from embryonic (E15) and postnatal (P4) murine primary cortical astrocytes grown on coated coverslips or a 3D polystyrene scaffold, Alvetex. Growth of both embryonic and postnatal primary astrocytes in the 3D scaffold changed astrocyte morphology to a mature, protoplasmic phenotype. Embryonic-derived astrocytes in 3D expressed markers of mature astrocytes, namely the glutamate transporter GLT-1 with low levels of the chondroitin sulphate proteoglycans, NG2 and SMC3. Embroynic astrocytes derived in 3D show lower levels of markers of reactive astrocytes, namely GFAP and mRNA levels of LCN2, PTX3, Serpina3n and Cx43. Postnatal-derived astrocytes show few protein changes between 2D and 3D conditions. Our data shows that Alvetex is a suitable scaffold for growth of astrocytes, and with appropriate choice of cells allows the maintenance of astrocytes with the properties of mature cells and a non-reactive phenotype.BBSR
Theory and practice of social norms interventions: eight common pitfalls.
BACKGROUND: Recently, Global Health practitioners, scholars, and donors have expressed increased interest in "changing social norms" as a strategy to promote health and well-being in low and mid-income countries (LMIC). Despite this burgeoning interest, the ability of practitioners to use social norm theory to inform health interventions varies widely. MAIN BODY: Here, we identify eight pitfalls that practitioners must avoid as they plan to integrate a social norms perspective in their interventions, as well as eight learnings. These learnings are: 1) Social norms and attitudes are different; 2) Social norms and attitudes can coincide; 3) Protective norms can offer important resources for achieving effective social improvement in people's health-related practices; 4) Harmful practices are sustained by a matrix of factors that need to be understood in their interactions; 5) The prevalence of a norm is not necessarily a sign of its strength; 6) Social norms can exert both direct and indirect influence; 7) Publicising the prevalence of a harmful practice can make things worse; 8) People-led social norm change is both the right and the smart thing to do. CONCLUSIONS: As the understanding of how norms evolve in LMIC advances, practitioners will develop greater understanding of what works to help people lead change in harmful norms within their contexts. Awareness of these pitfalls has helped several of them increase the effectiveness of their interventions addressing social norms in the field. We are confident that others will benefit from these reflections as well
Anyone with a Long-Face? Craniofacial Evolutionary Allometry (CREA) in a Family of Short-Faced Mammals, the Felidae
Among adults of closely related species, a trend in craniofacial evolutionary allometry (CREA) for larger taxa to be long-faced and smaller ones to have paedomorphic aspects, such as proportionally smaller snouts and larger braincases, has been demonstrated in some mammals and two bird lineages. Nevertheless, whether this may represent a ‘rule’ with few exceptions is still an open question. In this context, Felidae is a particularly interesting family to study because, although its members are short-faced, previous research did suggest relative facial elongation in larger living representatives. Using geometric morphometrics, based on two sets of anatomical landmarks, and traditional morphometrics, for comparing relative lengths of the palate and basicranium, we performed a series of standard and comparative allometric regressions in the Felidae and its two subfamilies. All analyses consistently supported the CREA pattern, with only one minor exception in the geometric morphometric analysis of Pantherinae: the genus Neofelis. With its unusually long canines, Neofelis species seem to have a relatively narrow cranium and long face, despite being smaller than other big cats. In spite of this, overall, our findings strengthen the possibility that the CREA pattern might indeed be a ‘rule’ among mammals, raising questions on the processes behind it and suggesting future directions for its study
