In this paper we will analyse the material, symbolic, and subjective dimensions of a very particular space geographically located in Sierra de Ancasti (Province of Catamarca, in the north western of Argentina) known as La Tunita. We argue that several and unique natural and spatial attributes in La Tunita favoured its incorporation to the social dynamic during the Regional Period of Integration (ca. s. III D.C. – s. XI / XII). La Tunita distinguished itself for the existence of an important array of rock art manifestations which in turn materialize the Aguada culture cosmovision. This place would have played an important role in infl uencing significantly at a symbolic-ideological level, allowing arranging the natural environment and transforming it into a social space of great signifi cance in the macro regional context. Despite of the prevalence of Aguada imprint, evidence suggests that other social groups in the course of history could have operated from a similar logic. We assume that some pictures of La Tunita are related to the confl icts and social tensions that seem to have occurred in times of Aguada. In this way, we pose that the images and some rituals have become important allies in the exercise of control and power within society to assert against other groups when social interaction in a vast territory should have required the adoption of practices which reinforce some ideological aspects in certain places.Fil: Nazar, Carlos Domingo. Hilbert-type operator induced by radial weight on Hardyspaces

We consider the Hilbert-type operator defined by Hω(f)(z)=∫10f(t)(1z∫z0Bωt(u)du)ω(t)dt, where {Bωζ}ζ∈D are the reproducing kernels of the Bergman space A2ω induced by a radial weight ω in the unit disc D. We prove that Hω is bounded on the Hardy space Hp, 1<p<∞ , if and only if sup0≤r<1ωˆ(r)ωˆ(1+r2)<∞,(†) and sup0<r<1(∫r01ωˆ(t)pdt)1p(∫1r(ωˆ(t)1−t)p′dt)1p′<∞, where ωˆ(r)=∫1rω(s)ds . We also prove that Hω:H1→H1 is bounded if and only if († ) holds and supr∈[0,1)ωˆ(r)1−r(∫r0dsωˆ(s))<∞. As for the case p=∞ , Hω is bounded from H∞ to \mathord \mathrm{BMOA}, or to the Bloch space, if and only if (†) holds. In addition, we prove that there does not exist radial weights ω such that Hω:Hp→Hp, 1≤p<∞, is compact and we consider the action of Hω on some spaces of analytic functions closely related to Hardy spaces.Funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málaga / CBUA Funding for open access publishing: Universidad Málaga/CBU

Efficient numerical calculation of drift and diffusion coefficients in the diffusion approximation of kinetic equations

    No full text
In this paper we study the diffusion approximation of a swarming model given by a system of interacting Langevin equations with nonlinear friction. The diffusion approximation requires the calculation of the drift and diffusion coefficients that are given as averages of solutions to appropriate Poisson equations. We present a new numerical method for computing these coefficients that is based on the calculation of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of a Schr¨odinger operator. These theoretical results are supported by numerical simulations showcasing the efficiency of the method

Background Smoking is a cause of many postoperative complications, including delayed wound healing, tissue necrosis, and reconstructive flap loss. However, there is a paucity of evidence-based guidelines for smoking cessation in patients undergoing implant-based breast surgery. Objective The objective of this study was to determine if smoking is associated with wound dehiscence or superficial/deep surgical site infection (SSI) in women undergoing implant-based breast surgery. Methods Using the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program, data was obtained of U.S. adult females (n=10,077) between the ages of 18 and 70 who underwent insertion of a breast prosthesis from 2014 to 2016. The patient's preoperative smoking status, demographics, and comorbidities were analyzed to determine association with wound dehiscence, superficial SSI, and deep SSI. Unadjusted and adjusted logistic regression analyses were used to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Results Patients who smoked had a statistically significant higher proportion of wound complications (2.4%) compared to non-smokers (1.3%; p Conclusions Our study suggests that smoking is an independent risk factor for postoperative complications in patients undergoing implant-based breast surgery. These results have significant clinical implications, as increased precautions can be taken in smokers undergoing breast surgery to minimize postoperative wound complications. Future studies may determine the optimal amount of time that patients should abstain from smoking prior to implant-based breast surgery.Peer reviewe

Discovering Conversation Spaces in the Public Discourse of Gender Violence: a Comparative Between Two Different Contexts

A huge factor in gender-based violence is perception and stigma, revealed by public discourse. Topic modelling is useful for discourse analysis and reveals prevalent topics and actors. This study aims to find and compare examples of collectivist and individualist conversation spaces of gendered violence by applying Principal Component Analysis, NGram analysis and word association in two gender violence cases which occured in the different contexts of the Philippines and the United States. The data from the Philippines consist of 2010-2011 articles on the 1991 Vizconde Massacre and the data from the United States consist of 2016-2017 articles from the 2015 Stanford Rape Case. Results show that in both cases’ conversation space there is a focus on institutions involved in the cases that does not really change over time, and a time-dependent conversation space for victims. Even in two different contexts of gender violence, patterns in conversation space appear simila
