Minimally non-local nucleon-nucleon potentials with chiral two-pion exchange including Δ\Delta's

We construct a coordinate-space chiral potential, including $\Delta$-isobar intermediate states in its two-pion-exchange component. The contact interactions entering at next-to-leading and next-to-next-to-next-to-leading orders ($Q^2$ and $Q^4$, respectively, $Q$ denoting generically the low momentum scale) are rearranged by Fierz transformations to yield terms at most quadratic in the relative momentum operator of the two nucleons. The low-energy constants multiplying these contact interactions are fitted to the 2013 Granada database, consisting of 2309 $pp$ and 2982 $np$ data (including, respectively, 148 and 218 normalizations) in the laboratory-energy range 0--300 MeV. For the total 5291 $pp$ and $np$ data in this range, we obtain a $\chi^2$/datum of roughly 1.3 for a set of three models characterized by long- and short-range cutoffs, $R_{\rm L}$ and $R_{\rm S}$ respectively, ranging from $(R_{\rm L},R_{\rm S})=(1.2,0.8)$ fm down to $(0.8,0.6)$ fm. Competencia motriz y género entre los escolares españoles

En este estudio se analizan las diferencias de género relativas a la coordinación motriz en una muestra de 903 escolares de edades comprendidas entre 4 y 14 años (Media: 8,65, desviación típica: 2,62). Se les aplicó la Batería Movement ABC de evaluación motriz desarrollada por Henderson y Sugden en 1992. El análisis de los resultados mostró diferencias significativas en diferentes tramos de edad, así en las edades de 7-8 años, en las que se hallaron diferencias significativas en el equilibrio dinámico (mejores resultados en las niñas, p=0,044) y en el atrape y lanzamiento de pelota (mejores resultados en los niños, p= 0,000), pero no en la puntuación global del test (p= 0,326). Entre los 11-12 años las diferencias se encontraron en la destreza manual (mejores resultados en las niñas, p=0,014) y en el lanzamiento y atrape de pelota (mejores resultados en los niños, p=0,000), pero no en la puntuación global del test (p= 0,521). Estos resultados obtenidos en la Batería MABC nos ha mostrado como en las edades más iniciales (4-6 años) no se hallaron diferencias entre los niños y las niñas, siendo a partir de los 7 y 8 años cuando se empiezan a manifestarse algunas diferencias cuya relación está más referidas con lo cultural que con lo biológico, este razonamiento se afianza cuando se comparan estos resultados con otros resultados obtenidos con el mismo instrumento en otros países y culturas.)

Toughening by nanostructure

Block copolymer modified epoxy resins have generated significant interest since it was demonstrated that the combination could lead to nanostructured thermosets through self-assembly. Over moderate to high polymer concentration the system behaves as expected for a block copolymer in a solvent selective for one block. Two types of copolymers have been studied: non-reactive and reactive modifiers. Morphologies such as copolymer vesicle and spherical/wormlike micelles can be formed under the appropriate conditions. The enhancement of the modified thermosets' mechanical properties depends on the morphology adopted by the polymers. Besides improving mechanical properties, the morphology was found to also have an effect on the glass transition in the studied systems. Comparison of positional accuracy between RTK and RTX GNSS gased on the autonomous agricultural vehicles under field conditions

Currently, many systems (machine vision, high resolution remote sensing, global positioning systems, and odometry techniques) have been integrated into agricultural e quipment to increase the efficiency, productivity, and safety of the individual in all field activities. This study focused upon assessing a satellite-based localization solution used in straight path guidance of an autonomou s vehicle developed for ag ricultural applica tions. The autonom ous agricultural vehicle was designed and constructed under RHEA (Robot fleets for highly effective agriculture and forestry management) project and is part of a three-unit fleet of similar vehicles. Static tests showed that 99% of all positions are placed within a circle with a 2.9 cm radius centered at the geo-position usi ng real-time satellite corrections (RTX). Dynamic tests between rows demonstrated a mean (N=610) of the standard deviation for real-time base station corrections (RTK) of 1.43 cm and for real-time satellite corrections (RTX) of 2.55 cm. These re sults demonstrate that the tractor was able to track each straight line with high degree of accuracy. The integration of a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) with sensors (e.g., inertial sensor, altimeters, odomet ers, etc.) within the vehicle showed th e potential of autonomous tractors for expanding agricultural applications utilizing this technology.European Union FP7/2007-201

Disparate roles of ATR and ATM in immunoglobulin class switch recombination and somatic hypermutation

13 pages, 3 figures, 4 tables.-- et al.Class switch recombination (CSR) and somatic hypermutation (SHM) are mechanistically related processes initiated by activation-induced cytidine deaminase. Here, we have studied the role of ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3-related protein (ATR) in CSR by analyzing the recombinational junctions, resulting from in vivo switching, in cells from patients with mutations in the ATR gene. The proportion of cells that have switched to immunoglobulin (Ig)A and IgG in the peripheral blood seems to be normal in ATR-deficient (ATRD) patients and the recombined S regions show a normal “blunt end-joining,” but impaired end joining with partially complementary (1–3 bp) DNA ends. There was also an increased usage of microhomology at the μ-α switch junctions, but only up to 9 bp, suggesting that the end-joining pathway requiring longer microhomologies (≥10 bp) may be ATR dependent. The SHM pattern in the Ig variable heavy chain genes is altered, with fewer mutations occurring at A and more mutations at T residues and thus a loss of strand bias in targeting A/T pairs within certain hotspots. These data suggest that the role of ATR is partially overlapping with that of ataxia telangiectasia–mutated protein, but that the former is also endowed with unique functional properties in the repair processes during CSR and SHM.This work was supported by the Swedish Research Council, the Swedish Society for Medical Research (SSMF), and the Swedish Doctors Association.Peer reviewe

Composta urbana, herramienta efectiva para combatir el cambio climático : Experiencias y resultados de un programa no formal de educación ambiental

El tratamiento de residuos orgánicos en la ciudad se presenta como una alternativa con gran potencial de efectividad en la lucha contra el cambio climático. El objetivo es formar una nueva mentalidad relacionada con la transformación de desechos orgánicos, buscando involucrar a la población a que desde sus hogares reduzca la cantidad de materia orgánica que llega a los rellenos sanitarios, ya que estos son la principal fuente antropogénica de emisiones de gas metano a la atmósfera. La metodología consiste en capacitar personas de distintos estratos, tanto económicos, académicos, como de edad, con la finalidad de tener mayor participación colectiva. La capacitación incluye más que conceptos teóricos, pues se les enseña en práctica desde la separación de residuos, hasta el tratamiento de los desechos a través de la composta. Comencé a trabajar hace un año, pero llevo aproximadamente 12 cursos-talleres, con más de 400 personas involucradas. He contado con el apoyo de diversas instituciones, como la Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas, el Instituto de Ecología y Medio Ambiente del Estado de Zacatecas, Universidad Tecnológica del Edo. De Zacatecas, Consejo Zacatecano de Ciencia y Tecnología, además participé como ponente en el II Congreso Internacional sobre Cambio Climático y Desarrollo Sustentable 2010.
