    Sujetos y territorios en el estudio de las migraciones desde la antropología en España

    El texto hace una aproximación a la incorporación de las migraciones como temática de estudio en la Antropología en España y en qué medida la Antropología Social realizada encuentra en el inmigrante la otredad; una forma de antropologizar su estudio sin salir de casa. Se hace una breve descripción de cómo se está construyendo el campo de estudio de las migraciones a partir de la observación de las tesis doctorales que se han leído en los departamentos de Antropología Social de las universidades del Estado español en los últimos años, qué temáticas han tratado y proponiendo una agrupación organizativa del conjunto de estas investigaciones. A partir de ello analiza cómo son representados los sujetos de dichas investigaciones en los objetivos que se marcan en cada una de las tesis doctorales analizadas y los énfasis que ponen en los lugares geográficos en los que se han desarrollado las investigaciones. Palabras clave: migraciones, antropología en España, inmigrantes, tesis doctorales, territorios Abstract This article examines the incorporation into Spanish anthropology of migration as a field of study, exploring the extent to which Spanish social anthropology locates Otherness in the immigrant: a way of anthropologizing a study without leaving home. A brief description of how anthropological research in Spain constructs migration as a field of study through an overview of doctoral theses defended in the social anthropology departments of Spanish universities in recent years shows the topics studied, grouping them thematically. They are then analyzed according to how the subjects of these studies are represented (and sometimes turned into objects of study) in the stated aims of the theses analyzed, and the emphasis placed on the geographic locations in which the studies were carried out.     Memory effects in a gas of viscoelastic particles

    We study a granular gas of viscoelastic particles (kinetic energy loss upon collision is a function of the particles' relative velocities at impact) subject to a stochastic thermostat. We show that the system displays anomalous cooling and heating rates during thermal relaxation processes, this causing the emergence of thermal memory. In particular, a significant Mpemba effect is present, i.e., an initially hotter/cooler granular gas can cool down/heat up faster than an in comparison cooler/hotter granular gas. Moreover, a Kovacs effect is also observed, i.e., a nonmonotonic relaxation of the granular temperature¿if the gas undergoes certain sudden temperature changes before fixing its value. Our results show that both memory effects have distinct features, very different and eventually opposed to those reported in theory for granular fluids under simpler collisional models. We study our system via three independent methods: approximate solution of the kinetic equation time evolution and computer simulations (both molecular dynamics simulations and direct simulation Monte Carlo method), finding good agreement between them.This work has been partially funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades and the Agencia Estatal de Investigación through Grant Nos.     Asymptotics and zeros of Sobolev orthogonal polynomials on unbounded supports

    In this paper we present a survey about analytic properties of polynomials orthogonal with respect to a weighted Sobolev inner product such that the vector of measures has an unbounded support. In particular, we are focused in the study of the asymptotic behaviour of such polynomials as well as in the distribution of their zeros.     Magnetic pinning of flux lattice in superconducting- nanomagnet hybrids

    Strong superconducting pinning effects are observed from magnetic landscapes produced by arrays of circular rings with varying magnetic remanent states. The collective and the background pinning of superconducting Nb films is strongly enhanced by the stray magnetic field produced by an array of circular Ni rings magnetized to form “onion” (bidomain) states. On the other hand, when the same rings are magnetized into vortex (flux-closed) states, or are randomly magnetized, the superconducting pinning is much smaller. The greatest pinning is produced when the superconducting vortex lattice motion is along a direction in which there is a strong magnetic field variation

    Oncogenic Role of Secreted Engrailed Homeobox 2 (EN2) in Prostate Cancer

    Engrailed variant-2 (EN2) has been suggested as a potential diagnostic biomarker; however, its presence and functional role in prostate cancer (PCa) cells is still controversial or unknown. Here, we analyzed 1) the expression/secretion profile of EN2 in five independent samples cohorts from PCa patients and controls (prostate tissues and/or urine) to determine its utility as a PCa biomarker; and 2) the functional role of EN2 in normal (RWPE1) and tumor (LNCaP/22Rv1/PC3) prostate cells to explore its potential value as therapeutic target. EN2 was overexpressed in our two cohorts of PCa tissues compared to control and in tumor cell lines compared with normal-like prostate cells. This profile was corroborated in silico in three independent data sets [The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)/Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC)/Grasso]. Consistently, urine EN2 levels were elevated and enabled discrimination between PCa and control patients. EN2 treatment increased cell proliferation in LNCaP/22Rv1/PC3 cells, migration in RWPE1/PC3 cells, and PSA secretion in LNCaP cells. These effects were associated, at least in the androgen-sensitive LNCaP cells, with increased AKT and androgen-receptor phosphorylation levels and with modulation of key cancer-associated genes. Consistently, EN2 treatment also regulated androgen-receptor activity (full-length and splicing variants) in androgen-sensitive 22Rv1 cells. Altogether, this study demonstrates the potential utility of EN2 as a non-invasive diagnostic biomarker for PCa and provides novel and valuable information to further investigate its putative utility to develop new therapeutic tools in PCa

    First modern human settlement recorded in the Iberian hinterland occurred during Heinrich Stadial 2 within harsh environmental conditions

    As the south-westernmost region of Europe, the Iberian Peninsula stands as a key area for understanding the process of modern human dispersal into Eurasia. However, the precise timing, ecological setting and cultural context of this process remains controversial concerning its spatiotemporal distribution within the different regions of the peninsula. While traditional models assumed that the whole Iberian hinterland was avoided by modern humans due to ecological factors until the retreat of the Last Glacial Maximum, recent research has demonstrated that hunter-gatherers entered the Iberian interior at least during Solutrean times. We provide a multi-proxy geoarchaeological, chronometric and paleoecological study on human–environment interactions based on the key site of Peña Capón (Guadalajara, Spain). Results show (1) that this site hosts the oldest modern human presence recorded to date in central Iberia, associated to pre-Solutrean cultural traditions around 26, 000 years ago, and (2) that this presence occurred during Heinrich Stadial 2 within harsh environmental conditions. These findings demonstrate that this area of the Iberian hinterland was recurrently occupied regardless of climate and environmental variability, thus challenging the widely accepted hypothesis that ecological risk hampered the human settlement of the Iberian interior highlands since the first arrival of modern humans to Southwest Europe. © 2021, The Author(s)

    Identifying the Profile of Helicobacter pylori-Negative Gastric Cancers: A Case-Only Analysis within the Stomach Cancer Pooling (StoP) Project

    Background: The prevalence of Helicobacter pylori-negative gastric cancer (HpNGC) can be as low as 1%, when infection is assessed using more sensitive tests or considering the presence of gastric atrophy. HpNGC may share a high-risk profile contributing to the occurrence of cancer in the absence of infection. We estimated the proportion of HpNGC, using different criteria to define infection status, and compared HpNGC and positive cases regarding gastric cancer risk factors. Methods: Cases from 12 studies from the Stomach cancer Pooling (StoP) Project providing data on H. pylori infection status determined by serologic test were included. HpNGC was reclassified as positive (eight studies) when cases presented CagA markers (four studies), gastric atrophy (six studies), or advanced stage at diagnosis (three studies), and were compared with positive cases. A two-stage approach (random-effects models) was used to pool study-specific prevalence and adjusted odds ratios (OR). Results: Among non-cardia cases, the pooled prevalence of HpNGC was 22.4% (n = 166/853) and decreased to 7.0% (n = 55) when considering CagA status; estimates for all criteria were 21.8% (n = 276/1, 325) and 6.6% (n = 97), respectively. HpNGC had a family history of gastric cancer more often [OR = 2.18; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.03-4.61] and were current smokers (OR = 2.16; 95% CI, 0.52-9.02). Conclusion: This study found a low prevalence of HpNGC, who are more likely to have a family history of gastric cancer in first-degree relatives. Impact: Our results support that H. pylori infection is present in most non-cardia gastric cancers, and suggest that HpNGC may have distinct patterns of exposure to other risk factors.S. Morais, B.
