A model-based approach to multi-domain monitoring data aggregation
The essential propellant for any closed-loop management mechanism is data related to the managed entity. While this is a general evidence, it becomes even more true when dealing with advanced closed-loop systems like the ones supported by Artificial Intelligence (AI), as they require a trustworthy, up-to-date and steady flow of state data to be applicable. Modern network infrastructures provide a vast amount of disparate data sources, especially in the multi-domain scenarios considered by the ETSI Industry Specification Group (ISG) Zero Touch Network and Service Management (ZSM) framework, and proper mechanisms for data aggregation, pre-processing and normalization are required to make possible AI-enabled closed-loop management. So far, solutions proposed for these data aggregation tasks have been specific to concrete data sources and consumers, following ad-hoc approaches unsuitable to address the vast heterogeneity of data sources and potential data consumers. This paper presents a model-based approach to a data aggregator framework, relying on standardized data models and telemetry protocols, and integrated with an open-source network orchestration stack to support their incorporation within network service lifecycles.The research leading to these results received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agree-ment no 871808 (INSPIRE-5Gplus) and no. 856709 (5GROWTH). Thermal hysteresis activity of antifreeze proteins: A model based on fractional statistics theory of adsorption
Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) adsorb to the surface of embryonic ice crystals to prevent their growth. The protein-ice adsorption lowers the freezing point of the solution. Then, a thermal hysteresis can be defined as the difference between the melting and freezing temperatures. This quantity is a measure of the antifreeze protein activity. In this sense, there exists evidence that the antifreeze activity enhances with increasing the area/length of the ice-binding sites. In order to interpret this thermal hysteresis behavior, we introduce a two-dimensional adsorption model based on fractional statistics theory. The analytical expressions are obtained in terms of an exclusion parameter, which depend on the structure of the protein and area of the ice-binding sites. By using the model, thermal hysteresis activity is calculated for AFPs of different size, shape and number of active sites. Crecimiento de cristales en presencia de impurezas de diferente forma y tamaño
En este trabajo nosotros presentamos un nuevo modelo cinético tendiente a describir el crecimiento de cristales a partir de una solución acuosa y en presencia de impurezas. Dicho modelo es desarrollado a partir de una generalización de la aproximación propuesta por Davey y Mullin 1. El nuevo marco teórico combina (i) una expresión analítica para la velocidad de crecimiento del cristal, donde la misma disminuye linealmente al aumentar el cubrimiento (θeq) de impurezas adsorbidas, y (ii) una nueva ecuación de isoterma de adsorción (θeq como función de la concentración de impurezas CI) en la que el adsorbato puede ocupar más de un sitio de adsorción (impureza estructurada). Este formalismo permite obtener una isoterma exacta de adsorción de impurezas lineales en una dimensión, y proporciona una buena aproximación para un sistema bidimensional de múltiple ocupación de sitios, incorporando así dos factores muy importantes (tamaño y forma) que determinan las características de inhibición del crecimiento del cristal por parte de una impureza. Los datos de la teoría fueron comparados con simulaciones de Monte Carlo. Además, los resultados teóricos fueron aplicados a datos experimentales de velocidades relativas de crecimiento de cristales de KBr en presencia de impurezas (ácidos carboxílicos alifáticos) de diferentes tamaños: HCOOH, CH3COOH, C2H5COOH y C3H7COOH. Un buen acuerdo entre teoría, simulaciones y experimentos fue encontrado. El modelo teórico aquí propuesto es simple, con parámetros que tienen un significado físico preciso. Estos parámetros se pueden obtener a partir de experimentos termodinámicos y se relacionan directamente con la configuración espacial de las moléculas de impurezas en el estado adsorbido. En este sentido, es importante enfatizar la diferencia con la teoría de Kubota y Mullin 2, donde la presencia de un parámetro empírico (factor de efectividad ) es necesaria para interpretar datos análogos a los analizados aquí.Fil: López Ortiz, Juan Ignacio. Machine Learning-Based Analysis in the Management of Iatrogenic Bile Duct Injury During Cholecystectomy: a Nationwide Multicenter Study
Background Iatrogenic bile duct injury (IBDI) is a challenging surgical complication. IBDI management can be guided by artificial intelligence models. Our study identified the factors associated with successful initial repair of IBDI and predicted the success of definitive repair based on patient risk levels. Methods This is a retrospective multi-institution cohort of patients with IBDI after cholecystectomy conducted between 1990 and 2020. We implemented a decision tree analysis to determine the factors that contribute to successful initial repair and developed a risk-scoring model based on the Comprehensive Complication Index. Results We analyzed 748 patients across 22 hospitals. Our decision tree model was 82.8% accurate in predicting the success of the initial repair. Non-type E (p < 0.01), treatment in specialized centers (p < 0.01), and surgical repair (p < 0.001) were associated with better prognosis. The risk-scoring model was 82.3% (79.0-85.3%, 95% confidence interval [CI]) and 71.7% (63.8-78.7%, 95% CI) accurate in predicting success in the development and validation cohorts, respectively. Surgical repair, successful initial repair, and repair between 2 and 6 weeks were associated with better outcomes. Discussion Machine learning algorithms for IBDI are a novel tool may help to improve the decision-making process and guide management of these patients
Propagation length enhancement of surface plasmon polaritons in gold nano-/microwaveguides by the interference with photonic modes in the surrounding active dielectrics
In this work, the unique optical properties of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), i.e. subwavelength confinement or strong electric field concentration, are exploited to demonstrate the propagation of light signal at 600 nm along distances in the range from 17 to 150 μm for Au nanostripes 500 nm down to 100 nm wide (30 nm of height), respectively, both theoretically and experimentally. A low power laser is coupled into an optical fiber tip that is used to locally excite the photoluminescence of colloidal quantum dots (QDs) dispersed in their surroundings. Emitted light from these QDs is generating the SPPs that propagate along the metal waveguides. Then, the above-referred propagation lengths were directly extracted from this novel experimental technique by studying the intensity of light decoupled at the output edge of the waveguide. Furthermore, an enhancement of the propagation length up to 0.4 mm is measured for the 500-nm-wide metal nanostripe, for which this effect is maximum. For this purpose, a simultaneous excitation of the same QDs dispersed in poly(methyl methacrylate) waveguides integrated with the metal nanostructures is performed by end-fire coupling an excitation laser energy as low as 1 KW/cm2. The proposed mechanism to explain such enhancement is a non-linear interference effect between dielectric and plasmonic (super)modes propagating in the metal-dielectric structure, which can be apparently seen as an effective amplification or compensation effect of the gain material (QDs) over the SPPs, as previously reported in literature. The proposed system and the method to create propagating SPPs in metal waveguides can be of interest for the application field of sensors and optical communications at visible wavelengths, among other applications, using plasmonic interconnects to reduce the dimensions of photonic chips

The aim of our study is to assess the relationship between fruit and vegetable (F&V) consumption and plasma FAs and
their subtypes.
Methods and Results: Plasma FAs are assessed in a cross-sectional analysis of a subsample of 240 subjects from the
PREDIMED-Plus study. Participants are categorized into four groups of fruit, vegetable, and fat intake according to the
food frequency questionnaire. Plasma FA analysis is performed using gas chromatography. Associations between FAs
and F&V consumption are adjusted for age, sex, physical activity, bodymass index (BMI), total energy intake, and alcohol
consumption. Plasma saturated FAs are lower in groups with high F&V consumption (-1.20 mg cL−1 [95% CI: [-2.22, -
0.18], p-value = 0.021), especially when fat intake is high (-1.74 mg cL−1 [95% CI: [-3.41, -0.06], p-value = 0.042). Total
FAs and n-6 polyunsaturated FAs tend to be lower in high consumers of F&V only in the high-fat intake groups.
Conclusions: F&V consumption is associated with lower plasma saturated FAs when fat intake is high. These findings
suggest that F&V consumption may have different associations with plasma FAs depending on their subtype and on the

Association of anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol concentrations with clinical features and body mass index in eating disorders and obesity
Abstract
Background
Anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) play a pivotal role in stimulating motivational behavior toward food and energy metabolism. Aberrant functioning of the endocannabinoid system has been observed in extreme weight conditions (EWCs), suggesting it may influence pathophysiology. Then, we aimed to analyze fasting AEA and 2-AG plasma concentrations among individuals with EWC (i.e., anorexia nervosa [AN] and obesity with and without eating disorders [EDs]) compared with healthy controls (HCs), and its association with clinical variables and body mass index (BMI).
Methods
The sample included 113 adult women. Fifty-seven belonged to the obesity group, 37 without EDs (OB-ED) and 20 with ED (OB+ED classified within the binge spectrum disorders), 27 individuals from the AN group, and 29 from the HC group. Peripheral blood samples, several clinical variables, and BMI were evaluated.
Results
Unlike 2-AG, AEA concentrations showed significant differences between groups (p < 0.001). Increased AEA was observed in the OB-ED and OB+ED compared with both HC and AN group, respectively. Likewise, AEA was differentially associated with emotional dysregulation, general psychopathology, food addiction, and BMI in all clinical groups.
Conclusions
These results support the interaction between biological and clinical factors contributing to delineating vulnerability pathways in EWC that could help fit personalized therapeutic approaches
