Los adolescentes nacidos en esta etapa tienen un nuevo modo de entender el mundo, de relacionarse, de construir y mantener vínculos. Las redes sociales se han convertido en un elemento indispensable para la socialización e interacción entre sus iguales. Esta tendencia, junto con el deseo natural de explorar la sexualidad ha llevado a los jóvenes a interesarse por el sexting, entendido como el acto de enviar, recibir o publicar mensajes, fotos o vídeos sexualmente provocativos y explícitos a través de un teléfono móvil o red social. El objetivo de la presente revisión bibliográfica es analizar la información disponible sobre este fenómeno, los diversos estudios de prevalencia, así como las posibles consecuencias de este fenómeno. Finalmente se ha contado con 18 artículos y reviews que abordaban la práctica de sexting. En cuanto a la prevalencia existe una gran variabilidad entre el 13,5 y el 42,21%. En cuanto a las consecuencias asociadas, se han encontrado desde aspectos de la personalidad, emociones, conductas de riesgo.During last years, there has been a technological revolution. Teenagers born at this time have a new way of understanding the world, relationship, of building and keeping bonds. Social networks have become an indispensable element for socialization and interaction among their peers. This trend, with the natural desire to explore sexuality has led young people to become interested in sexting. This is the act of sending, receiving or publishing sexually provocative, explicit messages, photos or videos through a mobile phone or social network. The objective of this literature review is to analyze the information available on this phenomenon, the various prevalence studies, as well as the possible consequences of this phenomenon. Finally, there have been 18 articles and reviews that addressed the practice of sexting. As for the prevalence, there is a great variability between 13.5 and 42.21%. Respect to the associated consequences for sexting, they have found some aspects of personality, emotions, risk behaviors

    Glioblastoma Therapy: Past, Present and Future

    Glioblastoma (GB) stands out as the most prevalent and lethal form of brain cancer. Although great efforts have been made by clinicians and researchers, no significant improvement in survival has been achieved since the Stupp protocol became the standard of care (SOC) in 2005. Despite multimodality treatments, recurrence is almost universal with survival rates under 2 years after diagnosis. Here, we discuss the recent progress in our understanding of GB pathophysiology, in particular, the importance of glioma stem cells (GSCs), the tumor microenvironment conditions, and epigenetic mechanisms involved in GB growth, aggressiveness and recurrence. The discussion on therapeutic strategies first covers the SOC treatment and targeted therapies that have been shown to interfere with different signaling pathways (pRB/CDK4/RB1/P16ink4, TP53/MDM2/P14arf, PI3k/Akt-PTEN, RAS/RAF/MEK, PARP) involved in GB tumorigenesis, pathophysiology, and treatment resistance acquisition. Below, we analyze several immunotherapeutic approaches (i.e., checkpoint inhibitors, vaccines, CAR-modified NK or T cells, oncolytic virotherapy) that have been used in an attempt to enhance the immune response against GB, and thereby avoid recidivism or increase survival of GB patients. Finally, we present treatment attempts made using nanotherapies (nanometric structures having active anti-GB agents such as antibodies, chemotherapeutic/anti-angiogenic drugs or sensitizers, radionuclides, and molecules that target GB cellular receptors or open the blood–brain barrier) and non-ionizing energies (laser interstitial thermal therapy, high/low intensity focused ultrasounds, photodynamic/sonodynamic therapies and electroporation). The aim of this review is to discuss the advances and limitations of the current therapies and to present novel approaches that are under development or following clinical trials

    Monkeypox virus genomic accordion strategies

    The 2023 monkeypox (mpox) epidemic was caused by a subclade IIb descendant of a monkeypox virus (MPXV) lineage traced back to Nigeria in 1971. Person-to-person transmission appears higher than for clade I or subclade IIa MPXV, possibly caused by genomic changes in subclade IIb MPXV. Key genomic changes could occur in the genome's low-complexity regions (LCRs), which are challenging to sequence and are often dismissed as uninformative. Here, using a combination of highly sensitive techniques, we determine a high-quality MPXV genome sequence of a representative of the current epidemic with LCRs resolved at unprecedented accuracy. This reveals significant variation in short tandem repeats within LCRs. We demonstrate that LCR entropy in the MPXV genome is significantly higher than that of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and that LCRs are not randomly distributed. In silico analyses indicate that expression, translation, stability, or function of MPXV orthologous poxvirus genes (OPGs), including OPG153, OPG204, and OPG208, could be affected in a manner consistent with the established "genomic accordion" evolutionary strategies of orthopoxviruses.     Improving Diagnosis of Genitourinary Cancers: Biomarker Discovery Strategies through Mass Spectrometry-based Metabolomics

    The genitourinary oncology field needs integration of results from basic science, epidemiological studies, clinical and translational research to improve the current methods for diagnosis. MS-based metabolomics can be transformative for disease diagnosis and contribute to global health parity. Metabolite panels are promising to translate metabolomic findings into the clinics, changing the current diagnosis paradigm based on single biomarker analysis. This review article describes capabilities of the MS-based oncometabolomics field for improving kidney, prostate, and bladder cancer detection, early diagnosis, risk stratification, and outcome. Published works are critically discussed based on the study design; type and number of samples analyzed; data quality assessment through quality assurance and quality control practices; data analysis workflows; confidence levels reported for identified metabolites; validation attempts; the overlap of discriminant metabolites for the different genitourinary cancers; and the translation capability of findings into clinical settings.
