Efecto Antimicrobiano del Jugo de Chile Jalapeño (Capsicum annuum var. annuum) en Queso Sopero

Los antimicrobianos son aditivos alimentarios importantes en la conservación de alimentos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el efecto del jugo de chile jalapeño en la calidad mcirobiológica de queso crema tropical. Se evaluaron cuatro tratamientos mediante un diseño experimental completamente al azar de un factor, con cuatro niveles de jugo (0, 20, 30 y 40 %), tres repeticiones y tres variables de respuestas (coliformes totales, levaduras y Staphylococcus aureus) mantenidos durante dos días a temperatura ambiente (22 - 28° C). No se encontró diferencia significativa entre las concentraciones de 20 y 30 % con el tratamiento control, mientras que el efecto inhibitorio de la concentración de 40 % contra S. aureus y levaduras fue estadísticamente significativo (p < 0.05). Sin embargo, aunque se logró disminuir la concentración de estos microorganismos, no se alcanzó la concentración permitida por la norma oficial mexicana. El jugo de chile jalapeño puede ser un conservador natural que ayude a disminuir el deterioro de productos de buena calidad microbiológica, apoyando su vida de anaquel. Antimicrobials are important food additives in food preservation. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of jalapeño chili juice on the microbiological quality of tropical cream cheese. Four treatments were evaluated by a completely randomized one-factor experimental design, with four juice levels (0, 20, 30 and 40%), three repetitions and three response variables (total coliforms, yeasts and Staphylococcus aureus) maintained for two days at room temperature (22-28 ° C). No significant difference was found between the concentrations of 20 and 30% with the control treatment, while the inhibitory effect of the concentration of 40% against S. aureus and yeasts was statistically significant (p <0.05). However, although the concentration of these microorganisms was reduced, the concentration allowed by the official Mexican standard was not reached. El mosaico romano de Vilches (Jaén)

El mosaico romano de Vilches (Jaén) muestra la descomposición de las formas artísticas que tiene lugar en las regiones periféricas del Imperio Romano al final de la Antigüedad. Los autores fechan este mosaico, por la composición, el tratamiento de los motivos decorativos y sus paralelos estilísticos, en el siglo V avanzado. Pavimentos africanos con espectáculos de toros

El mosaico descubierto en la villa romana de Silin (Tripolitania) con representación de una escena de condenados lanzados al aire por un toro, sirve de punto de partida a los autores para hacer un estudio comparativo de los pavimentos norteafricanos de anfiteatro en los que intervienen toros. Se utiliza para la interpretación de las escenas tanto las fuentes arqueológicas, como literarias que ilustran, de forma especial estas últimas, acerca de las distintas clases de espectáculos con toros que se daban en los anfiteatros romanos : damnati ad bestias, empleo de maniquíes, juegos acrobáticos (contomonobolori), combates de hombres contra toros, luchas de toros con otros animales, taurokathapsia, uenationes, etc. Las representaciones musivarias norteafricanas tienen paralelos en otros pavimentos del imperio romano y también en sigillatas, pinturas, relieves, sarcófagos, contorniati y dípticos en marfil, lo que demuestra que en el s. V aún seguían celebrándose esta clase de espectáculos. La iconografía pone de manifiesto, asimismo, la relación que algunas de estas escenas tienen con Dionysos y Diana. Según los autores, los mosaicos con representación de munera uenationum et gladiatorium, así como los « retratos-inventario », debian jugar el mismo papel que los dípticos en marfil, es decir, se trataría de conmemorar la gloria del funcionario, cuya casa adornaban, evocando los ludi por él ofrecidos.The mosaic discovered in the Roman villa in Silin (Tripolitania) representing a scene where convicts are flung into the air by a bull, is used by the authors as a starting point for a comparative study of Northafrican floorings of amphitheatres involving representations of bulls. In the interpretation of the different events depicted, the authors rely on archeological as well as literary sources. Especially these latter provide valuable insight in the different kinds of public performance with bulls, which used to take place in Roman amphitheatres : damnati ad bestias, the use of dummies, acrobatic games (contomonobolon), fights between men and bulls, fights between bulls and other animals, taurokathapsia, uenationes, etc. The Northafrican mosaic representations have parallels in floor coverings in other parts of the Roman Empire, as well as in sigillatas, paintings, reliefs, sarcophagi, contorniati and ivory diptychs. All this is evidence of the fact that in the 5th century these public games were still being performed. In addition, the iconographie evidence relates these scenes to the deities Dionysos and Diana. According to the authors, the mosaics representing munera uenationum et gladiatorium, as well as the "inventory-portraits" must have had the same function as the ivory diptychs, i.e. they were meant to commemorate the glory of a high official serving at the same time as an adornment of his home and bearing witness of the ludi sponsored by him.La mosaïque découverte dans la villa romaine de Silin (Tripolitaine), qui représente une scène où l'on voit des condamnés projetés en l'air par un taureau, sert de point de départ aux auteurs pour faire une étude comparative des pavements nord-africains d'amphithéâtre où interviennent des taureaux. Complete Genome Sequence of the Alfalfa Symbiont Sinorhizobium/ Ensifer meliloti Strain GR4

We present the complete nucleotide sequence of the multipartite genome of Sinorhizobium/Ensifer meliloti GR4, a predominant rhizobial strain in an agricultural field site. Orienteering race with QR codes in Physical Education

Los actuales avances tecnológicos permiten integrar la tecnología en la práctica de la orientación, creando así interesantes e innovadoras actividades. En este sentido, se pretende mostrar una experiencia didáctica de una carrera de orientación con la integración de los códigos QR (Quick Response). Se trata de una práctica en el medio natural, en la cual se integran los códigos QR como medio de evaluación de conocimientos teóricos. La carrera está compuesta de 13 controles y en cada uno de ellos hay un código QR que al leerlo muestra una pregunta tipo test. También se muestran y detallan los pasos a seguir para organizar este tipo de actividades, siendo de gran utilidad para docentes que deseen ponerla en práctica. Estas innovaciones suponen para el alumnado un extra de motivación y hacen la actividad más atractiva, consiguiendo una mayor implicación. Asimismo, se consigue que los alumnos conozcan otras posibilidades de utilización de los dispositivos móviles y su uso adecuado.ES

Study of a hybrid solar absorption-cooling and flash-desalination system

Producción CientíficaIn this work, the analysis of a hybrid LiBr/H2O absorption-cooling and flash-desalination system, using solar thermal energy as heat source, is presented. An absorption open-cycle with three pressure levels is used in combination with a single-stage flash-desalination process to use the coolant as product water, resulting in an increase in cooling and desalination efficiency. For the application, a 20-room coastal hotel complex in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico, is taken as a case study and the sizing of the solar collection and storage system is carried out for the operation of the proposed hybrid system, during the summer operative period. The operational dynamics during the week with the highest ambient temperatures are presented. The dimensioning of the solar collector’s area and the energy storage resulted in a collection area of 620 m2 with 30 m3, respectively, reaching a solar fraction of 69%. The absorption-cooling subprocess showed an increase of 13.88% in the average coefficient of performance (COP) compared to conventional LiBr/H2O absorption systems. Also, considering that the system provides cooling and desalination simultaneously, the average COPG is 1.64, which is 2.27 times higher than the COP of conventional LiBr/H2O single-effect absorption units. During the critical week, the system presented a desalinated water production of 16.94 m3 with an average performance ratio (PR) of 0.83, while the average daily water production was 2406 kg/day; enough to satisfy the daily water requirements of four people in a coastal hotel in Mexico or to cover the basic services of 24 people according to the World Health Organization

Simulation of a solar-assisted air-conditioning system applied to a remote school

Producción CientíficaIn this work, we present an absorption cooling system with 35 kW capacity driven by solar thermal energy, installed in the school of Puertecitos, Mexico, an off-grid community with a high level of social marginalization. The cooling system provides thermal comfort to the school’s classrooms through four 8.75-kW cooling coils, while a 110-m2 field of evacuated tube solar collectors delivers the thermal energy needed to activate the cooling machine. The characteristics of the equipment installed in the school were used for simulation and operative analysis of the system under the influence of typical factors of an isolated coastal community, such as the influence of climate, thermal load, and water consumption in the cooling tower, among others. The aim of this simulation study was to determine the best operating conditions prior to system start-up, to establish the requirements for external heating and cooling services, and to quantify the freshwater requirements for the proper functioning of the system. The results show that, with the simulated strategies implemented, with a maximum load operation, the system can maintain thermal comfort in the classrooms for five days of classes. This is feasible as long as weekends are dedicated to raising the water temperature in the thermal storage tank. As the total capacity of the system is distributed in the four cooling coils, it is possible to control the cooling demand in order to extend the operation periods. Utilizing 75% or less of the cooling capacity, the system can operate continuously, taking advantage of stored energy. Long-Term Clinical Outcomes of Treatment with Dental Implants with Acid Etched Surface

Implant dentistry constitutes a therapeutic modality in the prosthodontic treatment of partially and totally edentulous patients. This study reports a long-term evaluation of treatment by the early loading of acid-etched surface implants. Forty-eight partially and totally edentulous patients were treated with 169 TSA Defcon® acid-etched surface implants for prosthodontic rehabilitation. Implants were loaded after a healing free-loading period of 6-8 weeks in mandible and maxilla, respectively. Implant and prosthodontic clinical findings were followed during at least 17 years. Clinical results indicate a survival and success rate of implants of 92.9%, demonstrating that acid-etched surface achieves and maintains successful osseointegration. Five implants in three patients were lost during the healing period. Sixty-five prostheses were placed in 45 patients over the remaining 164 implants, 30 single crowns, 21 partially fixed bridges, 9 overdentures, and 5 full-arch fixed rehabilitations. A total of 12 implants were lost during the follow-up period. Mean marginal bone loss was 1.91 ± 1.24 mm, ranging from 1.1 to 3.6 mm. The most frequent complication was prosthetic technical complications (14.2%), followed by peri-implantitis (10.6%). The mean follow-up was of 214.4 months (208-228 months).
