    Design and Testing of a Structural Monitoring System in an Almería-Type Tensioned Structure Greenhouse

    Greenhouse cultivation has gained a special importance in recent years and become the basis of the economy in south-eastern Spain. The structures used are light and, due to weather events, often collapse completely or partially, which has generated interest in the study of these unique buildings. This study presents a load and displacement monitoring system that was designed, and full scale tested, in an Almería-type greenhouse with a tensioned wire structure. The loads and displacements measured under real load conditions were recorded for multiple time periods. The traction force on the roof cables decreased up to 22% for a temperature increase of 30 °C, and the compression force decreased up to 16.1% on the columns or pillars for a temperature and wind speed increase of 25.8 °C and 1.9 m/s respectively. The results show that the structure is susceptible to daily temperature changes and, to a lesser extent, wind throughout the test. The monitoring system, which uses load cells to measure loads and machine vision techniques to measure displacements, is appropriate for use in different types of greenhouses

    Does orthographic processing emerge rapidly after learning a new script?

    Epub 2020 Aug 11Orthographic processing is characterized by location-invariant and location-specific processing (Grainger, 2018): (1) strings of letters are more vulnerable to transposition effects than the strings of symbols in same-different tasks (location-invariant processing); and (2) strings of letters, but not strings of symbols, show an initial position advantage in target-in-string identification tasks (location-specific processing). To examine the emergence of these two markers of orthographic processing, we conducted a same-different task and a target-in-string identification task with two unfamiliar scripts (pre-training experiments). Across six training sessions, participants learned to fluently read and write one of these scripts. The post-training experiments were parallel to the pre-training experiments. Results showed that the magnitude of the transposed-letter effect in the same-different task and the serial function in the target-in-string identification tasks were remarkably similar for the trained and untrained scripts.     Does letter rotation slow down orthographic processing in word recognition?

    Leading neural models of visual word recognition assume that letter rotation slows down the conversion of the visual input to a stable orthographic representation (e.g., local detectors combination model; Dehaene, Cohen, Sigman, & Vinckier, 2005, Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 9, 335–341). If this premise is true, briefly presented rotated primes should be less effective at activating word representations than those primes with upright letters. To test this question, we conducted a masked priming lexical decision experiment with vertically presented words either rotated 90° or in marquee format (i.e., vertically but with upright letters). We examined the impact of the format on both letter identity (masked identity priming: identity vs. unrelated) and letter position (masked transposed-letter priming: transposed-letter prime vs. replacement-letter prime). Results revealed sizeable masked identity and transposed-letter priming effects that were similar in magnitude for rotated and marquee words. Therefore, the reading cost from letter rotation does not arise in the initial access to orthographic/lexical representations

    Evolución del estigma hacia salud mental en especialistas sanitarios en formación en Asturias

    Introduction: Several studies have analysed social stigma among medical and nurse students or health care workers towards people with mental disorders. However, there is no evidence of social stigma training in residents during their specialised health training (FSE). Objective: This study aims to evaluate social stigma in residents in clinical specialities, the “anti-stigma” training during their residency, and its influence on the beliefs and attitudes they had in the first and last year of specialisation.Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study in a sample of 250 residents of nursing, medicine, and clinical psychology: 141 in the first year of speciality and 109 in the last year, selected by random sampling proportional to the total number of residents in each year. The CAMI-S scale was used to measure social stigma, and a self-made questionnaire was used for sociodemographic variables. Both were created in the FORMS app and sent via email. The mean and standard deviation (SD) were obtained for “integration and contact”, “social distance”, “dangerousness and avoidance”, and overall stigma. Overall score for no stigma was between 80-100.Results: Response rate of 57.6%: 72.2% women, 64.6% 23-28 years old, 54.2% in the first year, 51.4% medical specialisation and 29.9% nursing. Only 20.1% had received “anti-stigma” training. Overall mean stigma of 86.7 (SD=8.5); 87.3 (SD=7.9) in the first year and 86.1 (SD=9.1) in the last year (P=0.398); 90.0 (SD=8.2) if they received training and 86.1 (SD=8.4) if they did not (p=0.027).Conclusions: Overall scores favourable to "anti-stigma" were obtained for people both in their first and last year of specialty. When there was "anti-stigma" training during residency, the results were even more favourable. It would therefore be beneficial to include content on "anti-stigma" in residency training programmes.Introducción: Diversos estudios analizaron el estigma en estudiantes o en profesionales sanitarios hacia personas con enfermedades mentales. Sin embargo, no hay evidencia que lo estudie en residentes en Formación Sanitaria Especializada (FSE). Objetivo: Este trabajo pretende evaluar el grado de estigma de residentes en especialidades clínicas, la formación recibida en materia «antiestigma» durante la residencia y su influencia sobre las creencias y actitudes que tenían en el primer y último año de la especialidad. Material y métodos: Diseño descriptivo transversal en una muestra de 250 residentes de enfermería, medicina y psicología clínica: 141 en el primer año de especialidad y 109 en el último, seleccionados por muestreo aleatorio proporcional al total de residentes en cada año. Para medir el estigma se utilizó la escala CAMI-S y para las variables sociodemográficas un cuestionario de elaboración propia. Ambos se crearon en la aplicación FORMS y se enviaron por correo electrónico. Se obtuvo la media y desviación estándar (DE) en «Integración y contacto», «Distancia social», «Peligrosidad y evitación», y Estigma global. Puntuación global sin estigma entre 80-100.Resultados: Tasa de respuesta del 57,6%: 72,2% mujeres, 23-28 años el 64,6%, 54,2% en primer año, 51,4% especialidad médica y de enfermería el 29,9%. El 20,1% había recibido formación «antiestigma». Media global de estigma de 86,7 (DE=8,5); de 87,3 (DE=7,9) en primer año y 86,1(DE=9,1) en último año (P=0,398); de 90,0 (DE=8,2) si recibieron formación y 86,1 (DE=8,4) si no la recibieron (p=0,027). Conclusiones: Se obtuvieron puntuaciones globales favorables al «antiestigma» hacia personas tanto en el primero como en el último año de especialidad. Cuando hubo formación «antiestigma» durante la residencia los resultados aún son más favorables. Resultaría por lo tanto beneficioso incluir contenidos en materia «antiestigma» en los programas formativos de FSE

    Human resource management and environment management systems: an empirical study

    The present study focuses on understanding and measuring the effect that the implementation of an ISO 14001 environmental management system (EMS) has on human resource (HR) management in a company. The paper proposes and applies a measurement instrument to test the hypotheses derived from the theoretical framework established by Daily & Huang (2001) as well as from the ISO 14001 standards. Data collection was carried out by mailing a survey to the person responsible for environmental affairs of businesses with an ISO 14001 EMS implemented, or in the advanced stages of being implemented, in one autonomous region of Spain. Both reliability analysis and factor analysis, if necessary, were performed for the scales used. The results obtained indicate that the HR factors act as predicted by the hypotheses, except in the case of rewards. Finally, the present study provides empirical evidence in order to test and extend the model proposed by Daily & Huang

    Chamber specific expression of Myosin heavy chain 7b in the heart of vertebrates

    In extant vertebrates, myosin heavy chain (MyHC) 6 and 7 are the main isoforms of atrial and ventricular myocardium respectively, whereas MyHC7b has been proposed to be an ancient cardiac isoform only expressed during embryonic development in modern species. In preliminary immunohistochemical studies of the heart of the lesser spotted dogfish (Scyliorhinus canicula; Chondrichthyes), we have observed that while MF20 labels homogeneously all the myocardium, A4.1025 labels the inflow cardiac segments (sinus venosus and atrium) but not the outflow segments (ventricle and conus arteriosus). In order to interpret these results, we have performed western and slot blots from samples of dogfish and hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) hearts, HPLC-ESI-MS/MS from dogfish samples, and immunohistochemistry in hearts of representative species of vertebrates, namely elasmobranchs, polypteriforms, acipenseriforms, teleosts and mammals, using MF20 and A4.1025 antibodies. Western and slot blot results confirmed the specificity of MF20 and A4.1025 for MyHC in dogfish, as well as their differential reactivity against different myocardial segments. HPLC-ESI-MS/MS using protein databases from Callorhinchus milii (Chondrichthyes) and Chordata revealed the presence of MyHC6 and 7 in all the dogfish myocardial segments, and of MyHC7b only in the outflow segments. Immunohistochemistry showed that while MF20 signals were homogeneous in all the myocardial segments of all the species studied, A4.1025 signals were restricted to the inflow myocardial segments in elasmobranchs, homogeneous in teleosts and acipenseriforms, and low in the ventricle of polypteriforms. It can be inferred that the A4.1025 antibody, as opposed to MF20, has a low affinity for MyHC7b, at least in the dogfish. In addition, we show that MyHC distribution in the cardiac chambers has changed during the evolution of gnathostomes.Universidad de Málaga.
