Factors affecting return participation in sport tourism running events: The role of running involvement, place attachment, event attachment and travel patterns.
This presentation examines active sport tourists (runners) engaged in a small-scale, annual sport tourism event (Melissa’s Road Race held in Banff National Park, Canada). More specifically, the affect of a number of factors on race participants’ intensions to compete in the event in the future was examined. These factors included: physiological involvement in running, attachment to the park and the event, and selected travel patterns. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine 421 participant’s responses, to determine what factors might positively predict return visitation and participation. Attachment to Melissa’s Road Race, perceptions that the park was an “appropriate” venue for the Race, attachment to Banff National Park, plans to return to the Park as a place to visit, and the number of days event participants had visited the Park in the last 12 months all contributed to the prediction of intensions to participate in Melissa’s Road Race in the future. These variables explained 34% of respondent’s intensions to re-participate. Interestingly psychological involvement in running failed to significantly predict future participation
Local use of metrics for the research assessment of academics: The case of Poland
This article discusses the use of bibliometric indicators for the assessment of individual academics. We focused on national indicators for the assessment of productivity in Polish higher education institutions. We analysed whether institutions (N = 768) adopted national templates for their own sets of criteria for intra-institutional evaluations. This study combined an analysis of internal policy documents with semi-structured interviews with deans from institutions in different fields of science. Our findings showed that, despite their high levels of institutional autonomy, the majority of institutions adopted the national criteria for the evaluation of individual academics. This article concludes with recommendations for reducing the negative consequences of local use of national indicators for the assessment of researchers. This work was financially supported by the National Science Centre in Poland (Grant Number UMO-2017/26/E/HS2/00019)
Travelling Randomly on the Poincar\'e Half-Plane with a Pythagorean Compass
A random motion on the Poincar\'e half-plane is studied. A particle runs on
the geodesic lines changing direction at Poisson-paced times. The hyperbolic
distance is analyzed, also in the case where returns to the starting point are
admitted. The main results concern the mean hyperbolic distance (and also the
conditional mean distance) in all versions of the motion envisaged. Also an
analogous motion on orthogonal circles of the sphere is examined and the
evolution of the mean distance from the starting point is investigated
Polskie czasopisma z nauk humanistycznych i nauk społecznych w liczbach
Raport zawiera dane naukometryczne na temat
818 polskich czasopism naukowych z obszaru nauk humanistycznych i społecznych poddanych ewaluacji i umieszczonych na trzech Wykazach czasopism punktowanych opublikowanych w latach: 2012, 2013 i 2015.
Dyscypliny były wskazywane zgodnie z Rozporządzeniem Ministra Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego z dnia 8 sierpnia 2011 r. w sprawie obszarów wiedzy, dziedzin nauki i sztuki oraz dyscyplin naukowych i artystycznych (Dz.U. 2011 nr 179 poz. 1065).

A new trans-Ionian spider species for the Italian fauna: Habrocestum graecum Dalmas, 1920 (Araneae, Salticidae)
The salticid spider Habrocestum graecum Dalmas, 1920, until now only known from Greece, is for the first time recorded in Italy. Observations on ecology and behavior are also reported and pictures of its habitus and genitalia are provided. Furthermore, the first DNA barcode sequence for H. graecum is produced and made publicly available. The species has been observed in Puglia, in South-Eastern Italy, and a trans-Ionian dispersal pattern is most likely the cause of its presence both in Greece and Southern Italy, as reported for other taxa with similar distribution in different animal groups

Our study examines the international range of journals in which Polish humanists published their texts in 20092012. We examine the published articles through the category of an evaluated item (the indicator used in the Polish categorization of scientific units). The analyzed journals (N = 4274) were indexed on the C part of the Polish „List of Evaluated Journals” which is based on the ERIH lists. We divide journals into two categories: (1) journals (N = 620) with at least 1 publica tion taken into account in the categorization (128 Polish journals and 492 published outside of Poland), (2) journals (N = 3654) in which there were no publications from the Polish scientific units and no evaluated items. We found 7724 evaluated items which were attributed to the ERIH lists: 75.18% of these items were connected with articles published in the Polish journals which have a national range; 24.12% of these came from 10 Polish journals. Our findings show that the ERIH lists are not appropriate for assessing the internationalization of publications in the categorization of scientific units.Artykuł powstał w ramach projektu pt. „Współczesna polska humanistyka wobec wyzwań naukometrii”, realizowanego ze środków Narodowego Programu Rozwoju Humanistyki, numer decyzji 0057/NPHR3/H11/82/201
Umiędzynarodowienie polskich czasopism w naukach społecznych i humanistycznych – transformacyjna rola systemu ewaluacji nauki
This article discusses the transformations of Polish journals caused by the Polish journal ranking evaluation system. We focused on the internationalization of journals in the social sciences and humanities (N = 801), with the goal of investigating how science policy has transformed editorial practices at Polish journals. We used a mixed-method approach involving both one-way analysis of variance, two-way mixed design analysis of variance, and semi-structured interviews. Our findings showed that science policy has transformed editorial practices, but that there is no actual internationalization in Polish social sciences and humanities journals. Rather, there is only the ostensible internationalization that manifests in “gaming” the journal evaluation system. We found that the editors of Polish journals do not discuss the challenges of internationalization, and implement only those internationalization practices that are explicitly required in the system regulations. We conclude with recommendations for how to motivate the internationalization of journals and stem the corruption of parameters measuring internationalization.W tym artykule omawiamy przemiany polskich czasopism, które spowodowane były wprowadzeniem systemu ewaluacji nauki wykorzystującego wykaz czasopism punktowanych.
How to identify peer-reviewed publications: Open-identity labels in scholarly book publishing
This work was supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in Poland (https://www.gov.pl/nauka/) within the DIALOG Programme: the project title ‘Research into Excellence Patterns in Science and Art’. Tim Engels and Raf Guns thank the Flemish government for its funding of the Center for R&D Monitoring (ECOOM). The funders had no role in study design, data collection and analysis, decision to publish, or preparation of the manuscript. This article discusses the open-identity label, i.e., the practice of disclosing reviewers’ names in published scholarly books, a common practice in Central and Eastern European countries. This study’s objective is to verify whether the open-identity label is a type of peer-review label (like those used in Finland and Flanders, i.e., the Flemish part of Belgium), and as such, whether it can be used as a delineation criterion in various systems used to evaluate scholarly publications. We have conducted a two-phase sequential explanatory study. In the first phase, interviews with 20 of the 40 largest Polish publishers of scholarly books were conducted to investigate how Polish publishers control peer reviews and whether the open-identity label can be used to identify peer-reviewed books. In the other phase, two questionnaires were used to analyze perceptions of peer-review and open-identity labelling among authors (n = 600) and reviewers (n = 875) of books published by these 20 publishers. Integrated results allowed us to verify publishers’ claims concerning their peer-review practices. Our findings reveal that publishers actually control peer reviews by providing assessment criteria to reviewers and sending reviews to authors. Publishers rarely ask for permission to disclose reviewers’ names, but it is obvious to reviewers that this practice of disclosing names is part of peer reviewing. This study also shows that only the names of reviewers who accepted manuscripts for publication are disclosed. Thus, most importantly, our analysis shows that the open-identity label that Polish publishers use is a type of peer-review label like those used in Flanders and Finland, and as such, it can be used to identify peer-reviewed scholarly books
