    Physiological variables and molecular study of KLK2 and KLK3 among patient with benign prostatic hyperplasia

    Prostatic hyperplasia is benign tumor occur in prostate. Benign prostatic hyperplasia is common disease in old men. The incidence of disease arises with increase in age. The patient with benign prostatic hyperplasia are estimated 20% of men in 40s old, and 90% in of men in 80s old, and main causes of prostatic hyperplasia are unknown but there is evidence referring to genetic and hormonal disorders that may cause the disease. This study includes 60 patients with prostatic hyperplasia with an average age of 64 years old and 30 samples as a control with same age group. The study obtained that there was significant association (P ≀ 0.05) between PSA (KLK3) and prostatic hyperplasia. Result also mentions that there was significant decrease in testosterone level and significant increase in dihydrotestosterone level. The present study for KLK2 and KLK3 genes showed molecular variation in both genes, varied between polymorphism and allele polymorphism. PCR amplification of specific primers of KLK2 gene showed polymorphisms ranged between 14%, 8%, 10%, and 6% in each KLK2a, KLK2b, KLK2c, and KLK2d primers respectively, while the allele polymorphism in KLK2c amplification with primer reaches 18% of patient. PCR amplification of specific primers of KLK3 gene showed polymorphisms ranged between 10%, 6%, 2%, and 4% in each KLK3a, KLK3b, KLK3c, and KLK3d primer respectively, and allele variation was not detected in amplification product of KLK3.Keywords: Hyperplasia, Prostatic specific antigen, KLK2, KLK

    Hiding data in images using steganography techniques with compression algorithms

    Steganography is the science and art of secret communication between two sides that attempt to hide the content of the message. It is the science of embedding information into the cover image without causing a loss in the cover image after embedding.Steganography is the art and technology of writing hidden messages in such a manner that no person, apart from the sender and supposed recipient, suspects the lifestyles of the message. It is gaining huge attention these days as it does now not attract attention to its information's existence. In this paper, a comparison of two different techniques is given. The first technique used Least Significant Bit (LSB) with no encryption and no compression. In the second technique, the secret message is encrypted first then LSB technique is applied. Moreover, Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) is used to transform the image into the frequency domain. The LSB algorithm is implemented in spatial domain in which the payload bits are inserted into the least significant bits of cover image to develop the stego-image while DCT algorithm is implemented in frequency domain in which the stego-image is transformed from spatial domain to the frequency domain and the payload bits are inserted into the frequency components of the cover image.The performance of these two techniques is evaluated on the basis of the parameters MSE and PSNR

    Noise Effects on a Proposed Algorithm for Signal Reconstruction and Bandwidth Optimization

    The development of wireless technology in recent years has increased the demand for channel resources within a limited spectrum. The system\u27s performance can be improved through bandwidth optimization, as the spectrum is a scarce resource. To reconstruct the signal, given incomplete knowledge about the original signal, signal reconstruction algorithms are needed. In this paper, we propose a new scheme for reducing the effect of adding additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) using a noise reject filter (NRF) on a previously discussed algorithm for baseband signal transmission and reconstruction that can reconstruct most of the signal’s energy without any need to send most of the signal’s concentrated power like the conventional methods, thus achieving bandwidth optimization. The proposed scheme for noise reduction was tested for a pulse signal and stream of pulses with different rates (2, 4, 6, and 8 Mbps) and showed good reconstruction performance in terms of the normalized mean squared error (NMSE) and achieved an average enhancement of around 48%. The proposed schemes for signal reconstruction and noise reduction can be applied to different applications, such as ultra-wideband (UWB) communications, radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, mobile communication networks, and radar systems

    Throttling effect on the performance and emissions of a multi-cylinder gasoline fuelled spark ignition engine

    The throttle mechanism, a regulatory technique of engine output, is accompanied by a loss of some energy. The effect of intake air throttling on the performance and emissions of a multi-cylinder spark ignition gasoline engine was experimentally investigated. The engine was coupled to a hydraulic dynamometer equipped with a customized cooling system for both the engine and dynamometer. Experimental tests were performed for various engine speeds and air-fuel ratios at the WOT and POT conditions with optimized ignition timing. The acquired results recorded that a better engine operation could be achieved with WOT in terms of bmep, bsfc, ηb, CO, CO2 and UHC compared to POT. At the same time, the worst trend at WOT was noticed for the NOx concentration due to the higher conversion efficiency of fuel combustion. In terms of engine speed for both WOT and POT conditions, operating at 3000 rpm represents the minima of ϕ, bsfc, CO and UHC; and the maxima of ηb, CO2 and NOx with some fluctuation on both sides of this point. Maximum recorded values of ηb were about 30.55% and 28. 55%, while the minimum values of bsfc were about 274 and 293 g/kW.h for the WOT and POT conditions, respectively. The maximum bmep was obtained at 2500 rpm at WOT and POT conditions with values of about 940 kPa and 904 kPa, respectively. Maximum recorded values of NOx were about 1525 and 977 ppm for the WOT and POT conditions, respectively

    Genetics of diabetic kidney disease: A follow-up study in the Arab population of the United Arab Emirates

    Background: Two genome-wide association studies in European and Japanese populations reported on new loci for diabetic kidney disease (DKD), including FTO. In this study, we have replicated these investigations on a cohort of 410 Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients of Arab origin from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Methods and Results: The cohort included 145 diabetic patients diagnosed with DKD and 265 diabetics free of the disease. In general, we were able to confirm the association between the FTO locus and DKD, as reported in the Japanese population. Specifically, there were significant associations with two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), namely rs1421086 (p =.013, OR = 1.52 depending on allele G, 95% CI: 1.09–2.11) and rs17817449 (p =.0088, OR = 1.55 depending on allele C, 95% CI: 1.12–2.14) of the FTO locus. Both SNPs were in linkage disequilibrium with rs56094641, also as reported in the Japanese population. While the alleles of both SNPs, which increase the risk of DKD, were associated with higher Body Mass Index (BMI), their associations with DKD were independent of the BMI effects. Conclusions: This study confirms that FTO is a multiethnic locus for DKD which is independent from any influence of BMI and/or obesity

    Clinical and genetic associations of renal function and diabetic kidney disease in the United Arab Emirates: A cross-sectional study

    OBJECTIVES: Within the Emirati population, risk factors and genetic predisposition to diabetic kidney disease (DKD) have not yet been investigated. The aim of this research was to determine potential clinical, laboratory and reported genetic loci as risk factors for DKD. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Four hundred and ninety unrelated Emirati nationals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were recruited with and without DKD, and clinical and laboratory data were obtained. Following adjustments for possible confounders, a logistic regression model was developed to test the associations of 63 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 43 genetic loci with DKD (145 patients with DKD and 265 without DKD). Linear regression models, adjusted for age and gender, were then used to study the genetic associations of five renal function traits, including 83 SNPs with albumin-to-creatinine ratio, 92 SNPs with vitamin D (25-OH cholecalciferol), 288 SNPs with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), 363 SNPs with serum creatinine and 73 SNPs with blood urea. RESULTS: Patients with DKD, as compared with those without the disease, were mostly men (52%vs38% for controls), older (67vs59 years) and had significant rates of hypertension and dyslipidaemia. Furthermore, patients with DKD had T2DM for a longer duration of time (16vs10 years), which in an additive manner was the single factor that significantly contributed to the development of DKD (p=0.02, OR=3.12, 95% CI 1.21 to 8.02). Among the replicated associations of the genetic loci with different renal function traits, the most notable included CONCLUSIONS: Associations were found between several genetic loci and risk markers for DKD, which may influence kidney function traits and DKD in a population of Arab ancestry

    A Hybrid NLMS/RLS Algorithm to Enhance the Beamforming Process of Smart Antenna Systems

    Adaptive beamforming algorithm is a signal processing technique used by smart antenna system to steer the main beam toward the desired signal direction and cancel the interfering signals of other directions. This paper proposes a hybrid non-blind beamforming algorithm that combines the Normalized Least Mean Square (NLMS) algorithm and the Recursive Least Square (RLS) algorithm to exploit the advantages of both algorithms and avoid their drawbacks. The hybrid NLMS/RLS algorithm solves many problems of the other non-blind algorithms. A comparative study between the proposed algorithm and other non-blind beamforming algorithms is introduced to illustrate the points of strength of the proposed algorithm. The hybrid NLMS/RLS algorithm is applied to different types of patch array antenna with resonance frequency 10GHz to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm to each array antenna type

    Sect and House in Syria: History, Architecture, and Bayt Amongst the Druze in Jaramana

    This paper explores the connections between the architecture and materiality of houses and the social idiom of bayt (house, family). The ethnographic exploration is located in the Druze village of Jaramana, on the outskirts of the Syrian capital Damascus. It traces the histories, genealogies, and politics of two families, bayt Abud-Haddad and bayt Ouward, through their houses. By exploring the two families and the architecture of their houses, this paper provides a detailed ethnographic account of historical change in modern Syria, internal diversity, and stratification within the intimate social fabric of the Druze neighbourhood at a time of war, and contributes a relational approach to the anthropological understanding of houses
