Yesterday was hard on all of us

Maisterinopinnäytetyöni käsittelee aikuiseksi kasvamista, ajan kulumista ja muistojen haalistumista. Työssäni pohdin omaelämänkerrallisten valokuvien ja päiväkirjamaisten, kirjoitettujen muistojen funktiota muistamisen välineenä sekä oman henkilökohtaisen historian järjestämisen, oman identiteetin ja elämänkaaren hahmottamisen keinona. Teokseni taiteellinen osa koostuu snapshot-tyylisistä valokuvista sekä lyhyistä muistoteksteistä. Valokuvat ovat syntyneet viimeisen kymmenen vuoden aikana, kun olen kuvannut omaa lähipiiriäni ja elämääni, arkeani ja matkojani. Lyhyet muistot muistikirjassa sisältävät arkipäiväisiä keskusteluja ja toisaalta omaa identiteettiäni muokanneita hetkiä: valinnanvaikeutta Siwan karkkihyllyllä, kuoleman kohtaamista, verotoimistossa jonottavan mummon monologin. Oma aikuistumiseni kirjoittauttuu näiden vuosien, kuvien sekä tekstien välille, ja työn teoriaosuus avaa tätä henkilökohtaista kertomusta lukijalle. Opinnäytetyöni kuvailee työskentelyprosessiani ja ajatuksiani sen aikana, sekä esittelee yksittäisten kuvien syntytarinoita. Se tutkii myös valokuvieni sijoittumista näppäilykuvan eli snapshot-valokuvan genreen ja kuvailee näppäilyvalokuvan matkaa amatöörivalokuvasta modernin taiteen kentälle. Teokseni kirjallinen osa pohtii tapaani kirjata asioita muistiin joko valokuvan tai teksin keinoin, ja etsin tutkimuksessani motiiveja tapaani toimia. Itselleni tämän kaltaisessa taiteellisessa työskentelyssä on kysymys irtipäästämisen ja ajan kulumisen pelosta, sekä itsensä etsimisestä. Tulen pohdinnassani siihen tulokseen, että taiteen tekemisessä on kysymys halusta ymmärtää ja tutkiä elämää.The main themes in my master thesis are growing up, the passage of time and fading memories. My work reflects on the function of autobiographical photographs and diary notes as a means of perceiving ones own identity and life circle. The artistic part of my Master’s thesis consists of a group of snapshot photographs and various short, written memories. I have photographed my surroundings and my personal life for nearly a decade, and these pictures are now part of this work. The short, written, diary-like memories consist of rather insignificant everyday life situations and on the other hand also bigger events, that have shaped my identity: me trying to make decisions in a candy store, facing death, a random monologue of a grandmother in a tax office. My life and the past ten years are visible behind these photographs and diary texts, and in the theoretical part of my thesis I write about the story behind these two. My thesis describes my artistic work process and my notions of it, and also introduces real stories behind single images. To find the right context for this kind of artistic work in the field of fine art photography, my thesis also converses on the birth of snapshot photography and it’s long way from amateur photography to the Museum of modern art in New York. When I write about the motives to my autobiographical photography and writing, I come to the conclusion, that the main reasons for my work are the fear of letting go, my will to get to know my real self and a better understanding of life. Refugee crisis in Finland : Challenges to safeguarding the right to health for asylum seekers

In 2015 Finland received an unprecedented number of asylum seekers, ten times more than in any previous year. This surge took place at a time the Finnish Government was busily undergoing a wide-range health and social care reform amid growing nationalist and populist sentiments. Our aim is to explore the governance of a parallel health system for asylum seekers with a right-to-health approach. We concentrated on three right to health features most related to the governance of asylum seeker health care, namely Formal recognition of the right to health, Standards and Coordination mechanisms. Through our qualitative review, we identified three major hurdles in the governance of the system for asylum seekers: 1) Ineffectual and reactive national level coordination and stewardship; 2) Inadequate legislative and supervisory frameworks leading to ineffective governance; 3) Discrepancies between constitutional rights to health, legal entitlements to services and guidance available. This first-time large-scale implementation of the policies exposed weaknesses in the legal framework and the parallel health system. We recommend the removal of the parallel system and the integration of asylum seekers' health services to the national public health care system. (C) 2019 The Authors. The factors in the facade of a building which have influenced the decision of clients

Tämän insinöörityön tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten asiakkaat mieltävät YIT Rakennus Oy:n yksikön Asuintalot Itä-Uusimaa:n asuntotuotannon julkisivuratkaisujen ulkonäön ja mitkä seikat rakennuksen julkisivussa vaikuttavat asiakkaan ostopäätökseen. Työssä oli tarkoitus myös selvittää eri julkisivu- ja katemateriaalien kustannuksia ja tätä kautta muodostaa näkemys siitä, mikä vaipparatkaisu kohtaisi sekä asiakkaiden toiveet ja tarpeet sekä yrityksen kustannustehokkaan ja kannattavan tuotannon. Työ jaettiin neljään osaan, jossa ensimmäisessä osassa tarkasteltiin julkisivu-, ja katemateriaalien teknisiä ja toiminnallisia ominaisuuksia. Työn toisessa osassa tarkasteltiin materiaalien kustannuksia ja kolmannessa syvennytään työn yhteydessä teetetyn kyselyn tuloksiin. Insinöörityön viimeisessä eli neljännessä osiossa analysoitiin kyselyn tuloksia ja kustannuksia sekä pohdittiin niiden keskeistä suhdetta yrityksen tuotannon kannalta. Työn yhteydessä toteutettiin sähköinen kysely ostopäätökseen vaikuttavista tekijöistä rakennuksen julkisivussa. Kyselyn tuloksia tarkastellessa kävi ilmi, että suosituin ratkaisu julkisivuverhouksen suhteen oli vaalean sävyinen julkisivumuuraus. Tiilikatetta pidettiin konesaumattua peltikattoa arvokkaampana ja kestävämpänä vaihtoehtona. Kustannuksia tarkastellessa tultiin siihen tulokseen että rakennusyritykselle edullisin vaihtoehto vaipparatkaisuksi olisi normaali vaaka- tai pystysuunnassa verhoiltu puujulkisivu ja katteeksi betonitiilikate

A Monte Carlo method to estimate the confidence intervals for the concentration index using aggregated population register data.

In this paper, we introduce several statistical methods to evaluate the uncertainty in the concentration index (C) for measuring socioeconomic equality in health and health care using aggregated total population register data. The C is a widely used index when measuring socioeconomic inequality, but previous studies have mainly focused on developing statistical inference for sampled data from population surveys. While data from large population-based or national registers provide complete coverage, registration comprises several sources of error. We simulate confidence intervals for the C with different Monte Carlo approaches, which take into account the nature of the population data. As an empirical example, we have an extensive dataset from the Finnish cause-of-death register on mortality amenable to health care interventions between 1996 and 2008. Amenable mortality has been often used as a tool to capture the effectiveness of health care. Thus, inequality in amenable mortality provides evidence on weaknesses in health care performance between socioeconomic groups. Our study shows using several approaches with different parametric assumptions that previously introduced methods to estimate the uncertainty of the C for sampled data are too conservative for aggregated population register data. Consequently, we recommend that inequality indices based on the register data should be presented together with an approximation of the uncertainty and suggest using a simulation approach we propose. The approach can also be adapted to other measures of equality in health.Peer reviewe
