Unveiling Order behind Complexity: Coexistence of Ferromagnetism and Bose-Einstein Condensation
We present an algebraic framework for identifying the order parameter and the
possible phases of quantum systems that is based on identifying the local
dimension of the quantum operators and using the SU(N) group representing
the generators of generalized spin-particle mappings. We illustrate this for
=3 by presenting for any spatial dimension the exact solution of the
bilinear-biquadratic =1 quantum Heisenberg model at a high symmetry point.
Through this solution we rigorously show that itinerant ferromagnetism and
Bose-Einstein condensation may coexist.Comment: 5 pages, 1 psfigur
A Hybrid Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm for Graph 3-Coloring
The Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) is the name of an optimization algorithm that
was inspired by the intelligent behavior of a honey bee swarm. It is widely
recognized as a quick, reliable, and efficient methods for solving optimization
problems. This paper proposes a hybrid ABC (HABC) algorithm for graph
3-coloring, which is a well-known discrete optimization problem. The results of
HABC are compared with results of the well-known graph coloring algorithms of
today, i.e. the Tabucol and Hybrid Evolutionary algorithm (HEA) and results of
the traditional evolutionary algorithm with SAW method (EA-SAW). Extensive
experimentations has shown that the HABC matched the competitive results of the
best graph coloring algorithms, and did better than the traditional heuristics
EA-SAW when solving equi-partite, flat, and random generated medium-sized
graphs
Adaptive Resonance Theory: A Foundation for "Apprentice" Systems in Clinical Decision Support?
The idea of an "apprentice" system in contrast to an expert system, is introduced, as one which continues, perpetually, to refine its knowledge-base. Neural networks appear to offer the necessary learning ability for this task, and the Adaptive Resonance Theory family is particularly suited to on-line (casual) learning. The ability of these networks accurately to represent decision problems and to disclose their acquired knowledge is discussed, and their practical application is assessed. Two problems of medical decision making are considered using the approach. The first is the early diagnosis of myocardial infarction from clinical and electrocardiographic data gathered at presentation. The second is the cytopathological diagnosis of breast lesions from fine needle aspirate samples. In both cases good performance is obtained along with sets of "if-then" rules which are in accordance with medical opinion. In the first case, examples of on-line learning are given and the system is seen to be behaving as expected, with performance improving with increasing sample size
The Effective Lagrangian in the Randall-Sundrum Model and Electroweak Physics
We consider the two-brane Randall-Sundrum (RS) model with bulk gauge fields.
We carefully match the bulk theory to a 4D low-energy effective Lagrangian. In
addition to the four-fermion operators induced by KK exchange we find that
large negative S and T parameters are induced in the effective theory. This is
a tree-level effect and is a consequence of the shapes of the W and Z wave
functions in the bulk. Such effects are generic in extra dimensional theories
where the standard model (SM) gauge bosons have non-uniform wave functions
along the extra dimension. The corrections to precision electroweak observables
in the RS model are mostly dominated by S. We fit the parameters of the RS
model to the experimental data and find somewhat stronger bounds than
previously obtained; however, the standard model bound on the Higgs mass from

The Intentional Use of Service Recovery Strategies to Influence Consumer Emotion, Cognition and Behaviour
Service recovery strategies have been identified as a critical factor in the success of. service organizations. This study develops a conceptual frame work to investigate how specific service recovery strategies influence the emotional, cognitive and negative behavioural responses of . consumers., as well as how emotion and cognition influence negative behavior. Understanding the impact of specific service recovery strategies will allow service providers' to more deliberately and intentionally engage in strategies that result in positive organizational outcomes. This study was conducted using a 2 x 2 between-subjects quasi-experimental design. The results suggest that service recovery has a significant impact on emotion, cognition and negative behavior. Similarly, satisfaction, negative emotion and positive emotion all influence negative behavior but distributive justice has no effect
Evidence for a narrow dip structure at 1.9 GeV/c in diffractive photoproduction

The PHENIX Experiment at RHIC
The physics emphases of the PHENIX collaboration and the design and current
status of the PHENIX detector are discussed. The plan of the collaboration for
making the most effective use of the available luminosity in the first years of

Global Search for New Physics with 2.0/fb at CDF
Data collected in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron are searched for
indications of new electroweak-scale physics. Rather than focusing on
particular new physics scenarios, CDF data are analyzed for discrepancies with
the standard model prediction. A model-independent approach (Vista) considers
gross features of the data, and is sensitive to new large cross-section
physics. Further sensitivity to new physics is provided by two additional
algorithms: a Bump Hunter searches invariant mass distributions for "bumps"
that could indicate resonant production of new particles; and the Sleuth
procedure scans for data excesses at large summed transverse momentum. This
combined global search for new physics in 2.0/fb of ppbar collisions at
sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV reveals no indication of physics beyond the standard model.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures. Final version which appeared in Physical Review D
