Interdiscursive revitalization of the red plague metaphor in archbishop Jędraszewski's 2019 sermon : a critical analysis

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie opiniotwórczego potencjału metafory konceptualnej stosowanej w perswazji społeczno-politycznej, interpretowanej zarówno jako mechanizm poznawczy, jak i wysoce zideologizowane narzędzie dyskursywne. W części teoretycznej analizowane są zagadnienia interdyskursywności i intertekstualności w Krytycznej Analizie Dyskursu. Część empiryczna zawiera przeprowadzone na podstawie modelu Krytycznej Analizy Metafory jakościowe studium struktury i efektów perswazyjnych metafory tęczowej zarazy, publicznie użytej przez arcybiskupa Marka Jędraszewskiego w odniesieniu do środowiska LGBT w Polsce, będącej przykładem świadomego przekraczania granic gatunkowych w komunikacji społeczno-politycznej i religijnej. W odniesieniu do oryginalnego tekstu, z którego czerpie określenie wykorzystane przez arcybiskupa krakowskiego w jego kontrowersyjnym kazaniu, a mianowicie bardziej zakorzenionej historycznie metafory czerwonej zarazy, spopularyzowanej przez polskiego poetę Józefa Szczepańskiego w wierszu skomponowanym w czasie powstania warszawskiego w 1944 roku, analizowane są interdyskursywne i intertekstowe korelacje między dwiema metaforami ZARAZY (KOMUNIZM TO ZARAZA i LGBT TO ZARAZA).The paper aims at demonstrating the creative perlocutionary potential of interdiscursive production and interpretation of conceptual metaphor used in socio-political persuasion, simultaneously interpreted as mental phenomenon and discursive practice that is historically entrenched and highly ideological. The Critical Metaphor Analysis model is used to investigate the interdiscursive application of two PLAGUE metaphors (COMMUNISM IS A PLAGUE and LGBT IS A PLAGUE) as an example of deliberate transcending of genre boundaries in the increasingly intertextual and interdiscursive world of both socio-political and religious discourses. The empirical part provides a qualitative study of the historical background, structure and persuasive effects of the rainbow plague metaphor (Pol. tęczowa zaraza), publicly used by the Archbishop of Cracow, Marek Jędraszewski, in reference to the LGBT community in Poland, conducted in relation to the original text on which it draws, namely the more historically entrenched red plague (Pol. czerwona zaraza) metaphor made popular by the Polish poet Józef Szczepański in his poem composed during the Warsaw Uprising 1944

Reprezentacja i partycypacja. Radni miejscy wobec idei i mechanizmów partycypacji obywatelskiej

Over recent decades, many European countries have witnessed a transformation of local representative democracy. This has resulted both from the reforms inspired by the concepts of New Public Management, local governance, structural and functional changes as well as the expanding mechanisms of citizen participation. The latter trend is especially visible in large Polish cities. The main objectives of this article are to present the attitude of city councilors towards the concept and mechanisms of citizen participation and to examine whether this ‘extended participation’ influences the status and role played by city councils in the governing process. The article is based on empirical research conducted in 18 Polish cities. The results indicate that elected representatives, in general, support the idea of ‘citizens’ involvement in the decision-making process. Most of them, however, recognize the current mechanisms of civic engagement as sufficient, promoting the need to streamline their operation.W wielu państwach europejskich w okresie ostatnich kilkudziesięciu lat zauważyć można transformację lokalnej demokracji przedstawicielskiej. Jest to zarówno wynikiem wdrożenia reform inspirowanych koncepcjami Nowego Zarządzania Publicznego (New Public Management), lokalnego współrządzenia (local governance), zmian o charakterze strukturalno-funkcjonalnym, jak i poszerzających się mechanizmów uczestnictwa obywatelskiego. Ostatnia z tendencji w sposób szczególnie wyraźny uwidacznia się w Polsce, w samorządach dużych miast. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie stosunku radnych do idei i mechanizmów partycypacji obywatelskiej oraz określenie stopnia wpływu tychże na pozycję i rolę rad w procesie rządzenia. Artykuł opiera się na badaniach empirycznych przeprowadzonych w 18 miastach polskich. Wyniki badań wskazują, że radni miejscy generalnie popierają ideę szerszego angażowania mieszkańców w proces decyzyjny. Większość z nich uznaje jednak funkcjonujące w ich miastach formy uczestnictwa obywatelskiego za wystarczające, postulując jednocześnie usprawnienie ich działania

Psychologiczne uwarunkowania sprawności metajęzykowej dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym

The paper concerns psycholinguistic phenomena connected with meta-language, meta-linguistic awareness and children’s semantic skills. The main aim of empirical activities was to analyze psychological and linguistic conditionings of acquiring the meanings of words by 4- and 6-year-old children. It was examined how children understand the meaning of words from two categories: home and family. The analyses and conclusions on the creation of meaning presented in the paper are focused around the symbiosis of two planes: cognitive and linguistic. An analysis of the collected empirical material shows that their compilation reveals the unique nature of children’s meta-language reflection, the character of concepts and notion profiles which are closely determined by mental processes.Artykuł dotyczy psycholingwistycznych zjawisk związanych z metajęzykiem, świadomością metajęzykową oraz dziecięcą sprawnością semantyczną. Głównym celem działań empirycznych było zgłębienie psychologicznych i językowych uwarunkowań nabywania znaczeń wyrazów przez dzieci 4- i 6-letnie. Sprawdzono, jak dzieci rozumieją znaczenia wyrazów z dwóch kategorii: dom oraz rodzina. Zaprezentowane w artykule analizy i wnioski dotyczące kreowania znaczeń pojęć skoncentrowane są wokół symbiozy dwóch płaszczyzn: poznawczej oraz językowej. Analiza zebranego materiału empirycznego wskazała, że dzięki ich kompilacji ujawnia się specyfika dziecięcej refleksji metajęzykowej oraz profili pojęć – ściśle zdeterminowanych przez procesy mentalne

Konkurencja na rynku sprzedaży detalicznej w Polsce: badanie z wykorzystaniem indeksu Linda

The aim of this paper is to examine the level of competition in the industry bringing together the largest chains of retail stores with a food profile in Poland. Annul firm level data for the years 2005-2018 was used. We find that in the years 2011-2018, the oligopolistic arena consisted of 7 enterprises, which indicates a certain stabilisation of the number of the largest players on the market. On the one hand, the difference between the Linda index values and the level of "perfect equilibrium of forces" (PE) is increasing, which proves the growing market power of the largest players, also confirmed by the growing values of the CR7 and HHI concentration index. On the other hand, the empirical analysis showed an increase in the effectiveness of the main players in the analysed period. Furthermore, this paper confirms the effective market structure hypothesis (ESH) in the industry that brings together the largest grocery store chains in Poland.(original abstract)Celem artykułu jest zbadanie poziomu konkurencji w branży skupiającej największe sieci sklepów detalicznych o profilu spożywczym w Polsce. Do badania wykorzystano dane roczne ze sprawozdań finansowych przedsiębiorstw dla lat 2005-2018. Badanie poziomu konkurencji z wykorzystaniem indeksu Linda (IL) wykazało, że w latach 2011-2018 arenę oligopolistyczną stanowiło siedem przedsiębiorstw, co świadczy o ustabilizowaniu liczby największych graczy na rynku. Z jednej strony, różnica między wartościami indeksów Linda a poziomem równowagi sił między przedsiębiorstwami (PE) jest coraz większa, co świadczy o rosnącej sile rynkowej największych graczy - potwierdzają to również rosnące wartości wskaźnika koncentracji CR7 i HHI. Z drugiej strony, analiza empiryczna wykazała wzrost efektywności głównych graczy w analizowanym okresie. Activities of culture animators during the COVID-19 pandemic : reflections of people implementing projects on the internet

The paper deals with the topic of culture organisation/coordination during the COVID-19 pan demic. The proposed perspective is related to the recognition of the activities of cultural animators and presents the individual experiences of people involved in project implementation. The text pre sents the results of an empirical study based on interviews with culture animators. The topics dis cussed include: ways of adapting to the situation, challenges and barriers to implementing projects on-line, forecasting the use of new tools and acquired skills in the future, building a physical and mental work space, acquiring new competences, personal reflections about oneself, and, finally, re lationships with recipients and in work environments

The Role of Molecular Structure in Monte Carlo Simulations of the Secondary Electron Yield and Backscattering Coefficient from Methacrylic Acid

In this paper, we show the influence of the chemical structure of four different conformers on the secondary electron emission and backscattering of an electron beam from a gel of methacrylic acid. The conformers have different permanent dipole moments, which determines the cross sections for elastic collisions with electrons. The cross sections are used in Monte Carlo simulations of an electron beam, which enters the gel of methacrylic acid. The secondary electron yield and the backscattering coefficient are computed as a function of the beam energy
