Culture as a distinctive feature of an ethnic group (based on the example of translated handwritten literature of Polish-Lithuanian Tatar)

The article was published in the Journal of Language and Cultural Education, 2016, 4(2)The article is focused on Tatar ethnic group. It tries to show on its example, how one can be open on other cultures without losing one's identity and how to persevere in a different cultural environment. It refers to Tatars' religious writings as the source helpful in maintaining cultural identity. An example of connection between Tatar translations and European tradition of translation, is used to characterize both permeation of cultures and features which served to build cultural separateness of Tatars living in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania

Piśmiennictwo religijne Tatarów Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego jako oryginalne źródło do badań polszczyzny północnokresowej

The religious writings of the Tatars constitute a valuable source for philological research due to the presence of heretofore unexplored grammatical and lexical layers of the north borderland Polish language of the 16th-20th centuries and due to the interference-related and transfer-related processes in the context of Slavic languages and Slavic-Oriental contacts. Therefore the basis for linguistic analyses is constituted by one of the most valuable monuments of this body of writing – the first translation of the Quran into a Slavic language in the world (probably representing the north borderland Polish language), which assumed the form of a tefsir. The source of linguistic analyses is constituted by the Olita tefsir, which dates back to 1723 (supplemented and corrected in the 19th century). On the basis of the material that was excerpted from this work the author presents both borderland features described in the subject literature and tries to point the new or only sparsely confirmed facts in the history of the Polish language, including the formation of the north borderland Polish language on the Belarusian substrate. Research involves all levels of language – the phonetic-phonological, morphological, syntactic and the lexical-semantic levels

Problemy zarządzania i marketingu na łamach polskich czasopism bibliotekoznawczych

Problematyka zarządzania bibliotekami jako niedochodowymi instytucjami kultury oraz zastosowanie narzędzi marketingowych do promowania ich działalności stanowi ważny nurt refleksji w bibliotekoznawstwie. Na grunt nauki o bibliotece zaadoptowano terminologię i metodologię wywodzącą się z nauk organizacji i zarządzania. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie rozwoju problematyki zarządzania i marketingu w odniesieniu do bibliotek, w tym częstotliwości pojawiania się poszczególnych tematów i problemów, sposobów ich ujmowania, stosowanej terminologii i wykorzystywanej metodologii. W celu zbadania zagadnienia zastosowano metodę bibliometryczną. Jako materiał źródłowy wykorzystano artykuły z polskich czasopism bibliotekoznawczych za lata 1945–2018. The issue of managing libraries as non-profit cultural institutions and the use of marketing tools to promote their activities is an important current reflection in librarianship. Scientific research methodology in management science was adopted to library and information science. The aim of the article is to show the development of management and marketing issues in relation to libraries, including the frequency of appearance of particular topics, problems and criteria of their recognition, as well as related terminology and methodology. In order to investigate the issue, the bibliometric method was used. The source material consisted of articles from Polish library journals published in the years 1945–2018

Choice of Functional Form for Independent Variables in Accident Prediction Models

The development of multivariate statistical models to identify factors that explain systematic variation in accident counts has been an active field of research in the past 20 years. During this period many different models and functional forms have been applied. This study, based on data for national roads in Norway, tests alternative functional forms of the relationship between independent variables and the number of injury accidents. The paper compares six different functional forms (sets of independent variables and specifications of the form of their relationship to accident occurrence) by means of Poisson-lognormal regression. The best model was identified in terms of five goodness of fit measures and a graphical method – the CURE plot (CURE = cumulative residuals). The coefficients estimated for the independent variables were found to vary according to functional form. It is therefore important to compare different functional forms as part of an exploratory analysis when developing accident prediction models

"Obserwowany od kilkudziesięciu lat intensywny postęp technologiczny spowodował, że mamy do czynienia z istotnymi przeobrażeniami dotychczasowych modeli społeczno‑kulturowych i gospodarczych. Zmiany te nie omijają sfery działalności bibliotecznej, a z racji rosnącego znaczenia informacji i wiedzy można nawet stwierdzić, że biblioteki znalazły się na pierwszej linii frontu przemian. Wskutek coraz powszechniejszego dostępu do nowych technologii komunikacyjnych zmieniają się także ludzkie zachowania, w sferze zarówno publicznej, jak i prywatnej. Katowickie „Studia Bibliologiczne” (1983–2011) – próba charakterystyki wydawnictwa

W artykule opisano „Studia Bibliologiczne”, wydawnictwo naukowe Instytutu Bibliotekoznawstwa i Informacji Naukowej Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach. W latach 1983−2011 ukazało się dziewiętnaście kolejnych tomów, obejmujących łącznie dwieście pięćdziesiąt artykułów autorstwa ponad stu badaczy. Autorka omówiła skład redakcji oraz środowisko współpracowników, cechy wydawniczo-formalne wydawnictwa oraz jego profil naukowy, wykorzystując m.in. metody bibliometryczne
