Extensions of operator algebras I
We transcribe a portion of the theory of extensions of C*-algebras to general
operator algebras. We also include several new general facts about
approximately unital ideals in operator algebras and the C*-algebras which they
generate
Compactness properties of operator multipliers
We continue the study of multidimensional operator multipliers initiated in
[arXiv:math/0701645]. We introduce the notion of the symbol of an operator
multiplier. We characterise completely compact operator multipliers in terms of
their symbol as well as in terms of approximation by finite rank multipliers.
We give sufficient conditions for the sets of compact and completely compact
multipliers to coincide and characterise the cases where an operator multiplier
in the minimal tensor product of two C*-algebras is automatically compact. We
give a description of multilinear modular completely compact completely bounded
maps defined on the direct product of finitely many copies of the C*-algebra of
compact operators in terms of tensor products, generalising results of Saar

Study of a Large NaI(Tl) Crystal
Using a narrow band positron beam, the response of a large high-resolution
NaI(Tl) crystal to an incident positron beam was measured. It was found that
nuclear interactions cause the appearance of additional peaks in the low energy
tail of the deposited energy spectrum
High Purity Pion Beam at TRIUMF
An extension of the TRIUMF M13 low-energy pion channel designed to suppress
positrons based on an energy-loss technique is described. A source of beam
channel momentum calibration from the decay pi+ --> e+ nu is also described.Comment: 5 page
First measurement of the T-violating muon polarization in the decay K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma
We present the result of the first measurement of the T-violating muon
polarization P_T in the decay K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma. This polarization is
sensitive to new sources of CP-violation in the Higgs sector. Using data
accumulated in the period 1996-98 we have obtained P_T = (-0.64 +- 1.85(stat)
+- 0.10(syst))x10^{-2} which is consistent with no T-violation in this decay.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figure
Measurements of polarized photo-pion production on longitudinally polarized HD and Implications for Convergence of the GDH Integral
We report new measurements of inclusive pion production from frozen-spin HD
for polarized photon beams covering the Delta(1232) resonance. These provide
data simultaneously on both H and D with nearly complete angular distributions
of the spin-difference cross sections entering the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH)
sum rule. Recent results from Mainz and Bonn exceed the GDH prediction for the
proton by 22 microbarns, suggesting as yet unmeasured high-energy components.
Our pi0 data reveal a different angular dependence than assumed in Mainz
analyses and integrate to a value that is 18 microbarns lower, suggesting a
more rapid convergence. Our results for deuterium are somewhat lower than
published data, considerably more precise and generally lower than available
calculations.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures. Submitted for publication in Physical Review

On peak phenomena for non-commutative
A non-commutative extension of Amar and Lederer's peak set result is given.
As its simple applications it is shown that any non-commutative
-algebra has unique predual, and moreover some
restriction in some of the results of Blecher and Labuschagne are removed,
making them hold in full generality.Comment: final version (the presentation of some part is revised and one

A new limit of T-violating transverse muon polarization in the decay
A search for T-violating transverse muon polarization () in the
decay was performed using kaon decays at rest. A
new improved value, , was
obtained giving an upper limit, . The T-violation parameter
was determined to be Im giving
an upper limit, Im.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
