    Global fit to bcτνb \to c \tau \nu transitions

We perform a general model-independent analysis of bcτνˉτb \to c \tau \bar{\nu}_\tau transitions, including measurements of RD\mathcal{R}_D, RD\mathcal{R}_{D^*}, their q2q^2 differential distributions, the recently measured longitudinal DD^* polarization FLDF_L^{D^*}, and constraints from the BcτνˉτB_c \to \tau \bar{\nu}_\tau lifetime, each of which has significant impact on the fit. A global fit to a general set of Wilson coefficients of an effective low-energy Hamiltonian is presented, the solutions of which are interpreted in terms of hypothetical new-physics mediators. From the obtained results we predict selected bcτνˉτb \to c\tau\bar\nu_\tau observables, such as the baryonic transition ΛbΛcτνˉτ\Lambda_b \to \Lambda_c \tau \bar{\nu}_\tau, the ratio RJ/ψ\mathcal{R}_{J/\psi}, the forward-backward asymmetries AFBD(){\cal A}_\text{FB}^{D^{(*)}}, the τ\tau polarization asymmetries PτD()\mathcal{P}_\tau^{D^{(*)}}, and the longitudinal DD^* polarization fraction FLDF_L^{D^*}. The latter shows presently a slight tension with any new-physics model, such that an improved measurement could have an important impact. We also discuss the potential change due the very recently announced preliminary RD()\mathcal{R}_{D^{(*)}} measurement by the Belle collaboration.Comment: 47 pages, 12 figures. Species-Specific Differences in the Susceptibility of Fungi to the Antifungal Protein AFP Depend on C-3 Saturation of Glycosylceramides

AFP is an antimicrobial peptide (AMP) produced by the filamentous fungus Aspergillus giganteus and is a very potent inhibitor of fungal growth that does not affect the viability of bacteria, plant, or mammalian cells. It targets chitin synthesis and causes plasma membrane permeabilization in many human- and plant-pathogenic fungi, but its exact mode of action is not known. After adoption of the “damage-response framework of microbial pathogenesis” regarding the analysis of interactions between AMPs and microorganisms, we have recently proposed that the cytotoxic capacity of a given AMP depends not only on the presence/absence of its target(s) in the host and the AMP concentration applied but also on other variables, such as microbial survival strategies. We show here using the examples of three filamentous fungi (Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus fumigatus, and Fusarium graminearum) and two yeasts (Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Pichia pastoris) that the important parameters defining the AFP susceptibilities of these fungi are (i) the presence/absence of glycosylceramides, (ii) the presence/absence of Δ3(E) desaturation of the fatty acid chain therein, and (iii) the (dis)ability of these fungi to respond to AFP inhibitory effects with the fortification of their cell walls via increased chitin and β-(1,3)-glucan synthesis. These observations support the idea of the adoption of the damage-response framework to holistically understand the outcome of AFP inhibitory effects.TU Berlin, Open-Access-Mittel - 201

    On metric temporal description logics

We introduce metric temporal description logics (mTDLs) as combinations of the classical description logic ALC with (a) LTLbin, an extension of the temporal logic LTL with succinctly represented intervals, and (b) metric temporal logic MTL, extending LTLbin with capabilities to quantitatively reason about time delays. Our main contributions are algorithms and tight complexity bounds for the satisfiability problem in these mTDLs: For mTDLs based on (fragments of) LTLbin, we establish complexity bounds ranging from EXPTIME to 2EXPSPACE. For mTDLs based on (fragments of) MTL interpreted over the naturals, we establish complexity bounds ranging from EXPSPACE to 2EXPSPACE

In 2016 and 2017, surveys of Phytophthora diversity were performed in 25 natural and semi-natural forest stands and 16 rivers in temperate and subtropical montane and tropical lowland regions of Vietnam. Using baiting assays from soil samples and rivers and direct isolations from naturally fallen leaves, 13 described species, five informally designated taxa and 21 previously unknown taxa of Phytophthora were isolated from 58 of the 91 soil samples (63.7%) taken from the rhizosphere of 52 of the 64 woody plant species sampled (81.3%) in 20 forest stands (83.7%), and from all rivers: P. capensis, P. citricola VII, VIII, IX, X and XI, P. sp. botryosa-like 2, P. sp. meadii-like 1 and 2, P. sp. tropicalis-like 2 and P. sp. multivesiculata-like 1 from Phytophthora major phylogenetic Clade 2; P. castaneae and P. heveae from Clade 5; P. chlamydospora, P. gregata, P. sp. bitahaiensis-like and P. sp. sylvatica-like 1, 2 and 3 from Clade 6; P. cinnamomi (Pc), P. parvispora, P. attenuata, P. sp. attenuata-like 1, 2 and 3 and P. ×heterohybrida from Clade 7; P. drechsleri, P. pseudocryptogea, P. ramorum (Pr) and P. sp. kelmania from Clade 8, P. macrochlamydospora, P. sp. ×insolita-like, P. sp. ×kunnunara-like, P. sp. ×virginiana-like s.l. and three new taxa, P. sp. quininea-like, P. sp. ×Grenada 3-like and P. sp. ×Peru 4-like, from Clade 9; and P. sp. gallica-like 1 and 2 from Clade 10. The A1 and A2 mating types of both Pc and Pr co-occurred. The A2 mating type of Pc was associated with severe dieback of montane forests in northern Vietnam. Most other Phytophthora species, including Pr, were not associated with obvious disease symptoms. It is concluded that (1) Vietnam is within the center of origin of most Phytophthora taxa found including Pc and Pr, and (2) Phytophthora clades 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 are native to Indochina.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Abstract : This research proposed to record narratives of translators sign language interpreters (TILS) who were present in the history of deaf movements in Brazil. To this end, we accessed historical records in books, journals, articles and other publications related to the study area, in photographic and video records and, especially, through interviews based on the concepts of oral history as a source and analysis of historical records, individual and collective experiences. This study was developed based on the enunciative-discursive perspective of language, proposed by Bakhtin and the circle, seeking to evoke narratives that contribute to the record of this history. In this sense, it proposes to analyze the narratives of individuals about their constitution as sign language interpreters in the history of Brazilian deaf communities, considering for this translators interpreters who worked from the 1980s in the country. This research was developed from three lines of action, the first outlined from the collection of records printed or available in virtual media and that allowed the rescue of the historical trajectory of the Brazilian deaf movements, for the purpose of identification and delimitation of TILS working in this context. The second consisted in conducting interviews with TILS recognized from the historical facts, which were based on the guidelines of oral history and narrative interviews, used in the field of Translation Studies, which proved to be important methodological strategies for the development of this qualitative research and historical record about the performance of TILS. Moreover, the interviews allowed for dialogue and collaboration among the participants involved, considering their experiences, memories, identities and subjectivities, thus enabling the production of knowledge about the work of TILS in the historical context defined in the research. The third and last line of action involved the analysis of the narratives collected through the interviews, which, intertwined with the images and other documents collected in the first stage of the research, allowed us to reconstruct and retell part of the history of TILS' activities, as well as their professional constitution. Thus, when we woke up the sources, we accessed the memories of life from the participants' perspective, which, besides being explicit in their reports, were contextualized based on the records and documents found in the search for historical data. In this research trajectory it was possible to better understand the history of the work of these TILS in the 1980s and 1990s, valuing their experiences and perceptions, understanding them as historical subjects and bringing them greater visibility and recognition. We conclude that this research contributes to the understanding that, for the participants of this study, the constitution of the pioneering TILS happened with and in deaf communities, because it was, to a large extent, in these contexts that the interpreters were chosen for the trust and integrity they conveyed

Living Without Beth and Craig: Definitions and Interpolants in Description Logics with Nominals and Role Inclusions

    Get PDF
The Craig interpolation property (CIP) states that an interpolant for an implication exists iff it is valid. The projective Beth definability property (PBDP) states that an explicit definition exists iff a formula stating implicit definability is valid. Thus, the CIP and PBDP transform potentially hard existence problems into deduction problems in the underlying logic. Description Logics with nominals and/or role inclusions do not enjoy the CIP nor PBDP, but interpolants and explicit definitions have many potential applications in ontology engineering and ontology-based data management. In this article we show the following: even without Craig and Beth, the existence of interpolants and explicit definitions is decidable in description logics with nominals and/or role inclusions such as ALCO, ALCH and ALCHIO. However, living without Craig and Beth makes this problem harder than deduction: we prove that the existence problems become 2ExpTime-complete, thus one exponential harder than validity. The existence of explicit definitions is 2ExpTime-hard even if one asks for a definition of a nominal using any symbol distinct from that nominal, but it becomes ExpTime-complete if one asks for a definition of a concept name using any symbol distinct from that concept name.Comment: We have added results on description logics with role inclusions and an ExpTime-completeness result for the explicit definability of concept names. The title has been modified by adding role inclusions. This paper has been accepted for AAAA 202

Ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint is characterized by restriction or limitation of mandibular movement. It presents as a classic symptom a limited range of motion on opening. Radiographically, ankylosis presents features that facilitate the diagnosis. However, its visualization is not clear in most of the cases involving conventional radiographic techniques. With the evolution of radiographic techniques, computed tomography (CT) became an important examination in the diagnosis of the ankylosis of temporomandibular joint. Due to the increasing use of the CT and its importance in the diagnosis of this disease, the aim of this paper is to present and describe tomographic images of ankylosis of this joint by presenting two clinical cases, using several slices as axial, coronal, and three-dimensional reformatted images
