Priorities for the Finnish Presidency, July-December 2006. CEPS Working Document, No. 248, 12 July 2006
[From the Introduction]. "Thinking ahead for Europe’ is our motto. In this reader we have collected our thoughts and recent writings on what should be done in the near future to get Europe moving again. We offer these ideas to the Finnish Presidency of the EU as food for thought at the start of its six-month term. These views are based on the research experience of our multinational staff, who have the privilege of working in complete independence

The ConStratO model of handover: a tool to support technology design and evaluation
Handovers are a specific kind of multidisciplinary team meeting. Shift handovers and transfers are both regular features of hospital work but there is currently great variation in how such handovers are conducted, presenting a challenging for those seeking to develop technology to support handover. This paper presents the ConStratO model of handover, which captures aspects of the context that influence how the handover is conducted, a range of different handover strategies relating to different aspects of the handover, and possible outcomes of handover. The model is based on detailed data collection in a range of clinical settings. We present the model as a tool for developing and evaluating technology support for handover
tradicionales, como la minerÃa y construcciónTourism in Peru is a sector that contributes to growth and development in economic
and social aspects. Its growing trend, in relation to the flow of visitors during the last decade,
has served to diversify the various activities related to providing a tourist product
increasingly attractive to a growing demand for domestic and receiving tourism, generating
more jobs and higher income for the country. However, during the last years the growth
dynamics of the tourism industry throughout the country has been affected, and Arequipa is
one of the main regions that has also been impacted by the slowdown in tourism, a situation
that has been the result of insufficient efforts In the development of a competitive tourism
offer that can cope with new tourist demand trends and new tourist destinations around the
world.
The analysis carried out for the tourism sector in the region is aimed at identifying the
key opportunities that can be harnessed to propose strategies that can be applied taking into
account the real capacities of the sector in the region. It is therefore important for the
Arequipa region to have a properly planned and elaborated Strategic Planning that can point
the way to a quick reactivation of a unique, attractive and competitive tourism offer,
generating greater income for Arequipa so that the tourism industry can become the main
activity to support the economy of the region, overcoming the economic dependence of
traditional sectors such as mining and constructionTesi
Impact of Sustained Eradication of New Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infection on Long-term Outcomes in Cystic Fibrosis
Background. Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) is the most important pathogen infecting the airways in individuals with cystic fibrosis. A key question is whether children with newly acquired Pa infection who are able to achieve sustained eradication after early antipseudomonal therapy demonstrate improved long-term health outcomes compared with those who are unable to achieve a sustained microbiologic response
Early anti-pseudomonal acquisition in young patients with cystic fibrosis: Rationale and design of the EPIC clinical trial and observational study,
The primary cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) is progressive obstructive pulmonary disease due to chronic endobronchial infection, particularly with Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa). Risk factors for and clinical impact of early Pa infection in young CF patients are less well understood
Skin microbiome prior to development of atopic dermatitis:early colonization with commensal staphylococci at 2 months is associated with a lower risk of atopic dermatitis at 1 year
Background: Disease flares of established atopic dermatitis (AD) are generally associated with a low-diversity skin microbiota and Staphylococcus aureus dominance. The temporal transition of the skin microbiome between early infancy and the dysbiosis of established AD is unknown. Methods: We randomly selected 50 children from the Cork Babies After SCOPE: Evaluating the Longitudinal Impact Using Neurological and Nutritional Endpoints (BASELINE) longitudinal birth cohort for microbiome sampling at 3 points in the first 6 months of life at 4 skin sites relevant to AD: the antecubital and popliteal fossae, nasal tip, and cheek. We identified 10 infants with AD and compared them with 10 randomly selected control infants with no AD. We performed bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing and analysis directly from clinical samples. Results: Bacterial community structures and diversity shifted over time, suggesting that age strongly affects the skin microbiome in infants. Unlike established AD, these patients with infantile AD did not have noticeably dysbiotic communities before or with disease and were not colonized by S aureus. In comparing patients and control subjects, infants who had affected skin at month 12 had statistically significant differences in bacterial communities on the antecubital fossa at month 2 compared with infants who were unaffected at month 12. In particular, commensal staphylococci were significantly less abundant in infants affected at month 12, suggesting that this genus might protect against the later development of AD. Conclusions: This study suggests that 12-month-old infants with AD were not colonized with S aureus before having AD. Additional studies are needed to confirm whether colonization with commensal staphylococci modulates skin immunity and attenuates development of AD
