Estudio de la accesibilidad de las interfaces gráficas en la televisión de alta definición

    Get PDF

DGTD for a Class of Low-Observable Targets: A Comparison With MoM and (2, 2) FDTD

The simulation of low-observable targets requires high accuracy, both in the geometrical discretization as well as in the numerical solution of the electromagnetic problem. In this letter, we employ the well-known NASA almond, to illustrate the accuracy of the Leap-Frog Discontinuous Galerkin method, combined with a local time stepping algorithm, comparing it with the MoM and the (2,2) FDTD methods. The work described in this paper and the research leading to these results has received funding from the European Community’s Seventh Framework Programme FP7/2007-2013, under grant agreement no 205294 (HIRF SE project), and from the Spanish National Projects TEC2010-20841-C04-04, CSD2008-00068, and the Junta de Andalucia Project P09-TIC-

Impact of different waves of COVID-19 on emergency medical services and out-of-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest in Madrid, Spain

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is one of the three leading causes of death in industrialized countries.[1,2] Some studies have described the impact of the first COVID-19 pandemic wave in terms of the number of cases and OHCA survival rates in various regions,[3-5] but few have addressed the relationship between the successive phases and how they affected OHCA.[6,7] The 14-d cumulative incidence peaked at more than 990 cases, with these rates remaining above 200 for an eight-month period between 15 March 2020 and 15 March 2021 in Madrid, Spain. The objectives of the current study were twofold. First, we sought to describe how the different waves in the first pandemic year aff ected the healthcare activity of the Spanish emergency medical services (EMS). Second, we compared effects of the pandemic year on OHCA care to those of the preceding non-pandemic year in terms of initiating cardiopulmonary resuscitation and survival in a community with a high incidence of COVID-19.post-print164 K

A cross-sectional study examining the parametric thyroid feedback quantile index and its relationship with metabolic and cardiovascular diseases

    Get PDF
The usual inverse correlation between thyrotropin (TSH) and thyroid hormone disappears in syndromes of central resistance to thyroid hormone, where both are high. TSH and thyroid hormone are also simultaneously high when there is an elevation of the set point of the thyroid regulation axis. This can be estimated with indices, such as the Parametric Thyroid Feedback Quantile-based Index (PTFQI), which was designed for the general population. The PTFQI is positively associated with diabetes prevalence, but association with other pathologies has not been yet explored. The aim of this project was to explore the potential relationship of the PTFQI with metabolic and cardiovascular disease in a sample of ambulatory adult patients from Spain

Mineral and Bone Metabolism Markers and Mortality in Diabetic Patients on Haemodialysis

© The Author(s) 2023. Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the ERA.BACKGROUND: Diabetic patients on haemodialysis have a higher risk of mortality than non-diabetic patients. The aim of this COSMOS analysis was to assess whether bone and mineral laboratory values (calcium, phosphorus, and PTH) contribute to such risk. METHODS: COSMOS is a multicentre, open-cohort, 3-year prospective study, which includes 6797 patients from 227 randomly selected dialysis centres from 20 European countries. The association between mortality and calcium, phosphate or PTH was assessed using Cox proportional hazard regression models using both penalized splines smoothing and categorization according to KDIGO guidelines. The effect modification of the association between the relative risk of mortality and serum calcium, phosphate or PTH by diabetes was assessed. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant effect modification of the association between the relative risk of mortality and serum PTH by diabetes (p = 0.011). The slope of the curve of the association between increasing values of PTH and relative risk of mortality was steeper for diabetic compared with non-diabetic patients, mainly for high levels of PTH. In addition, high serum PTH (> 9 times the normal values) was significantly associated with a higher relative risk of mortality in diabetic patients but not in non-diabetic patients (1.53[95%CI:1.07-2.19] and 1.17[95%CI:0.91-1.52]). No significant effect modification of the association between the relative risk of mortality and serum calcium or phosphate by diabetes was found (p = 0.2 and p = 0.059, respectively). CONCLUSION: The results show a different association of PTH with the relative risk of mortality in diabetic and non-diabetic patients. These findings could have relevant implications for the diagnosis and treatment of CKD-MBD.publishersversionpublishe

Association between smoking status and the parameters of vascular structure and function in adults : results from the EVIDENT study

    Get PDF
Background: The present study analyses the relation between smoking status and the parameters used to assess vascular structure and function. Methods: This cross-sectional, multi-centre study involved a random sample of 1553 participants from the EVIDENT study. Measurements: The smoking status, peripheral augmentation index and ankle-brachial index were measured in all participants. In a small subset of the main population (265 participants), the carotid intima-media thickness and pulse wave velocity were also measured. Results: After controlling for the effect of age, sex and other risk factors, present smokers have higher values of carotid intima-media thickness (p = 0.011). Along the same lines, current smokers have higher values of pulse wave velocity and lower mean values of ankle-brachial index but without statistical significance in both cases. Conclusions: Among the parameters of vascular structure and function analysed, only the IMT shows association with the smoking status, after adjusting for confounders
