In this work, a multi-objective evolutionary parameter extraction procedure is used to simultaneously determine the parameters of both a compact model for the current-voltage characteristics of organic thin-film transistors and a contact model. This procedure can be used to overcome shortcomings of previous parameter extraction procedures. The proposed evolutionary procedure can be used in those situations whereby the parameter set extracted by other procedures does not comply its physical meaning, or if a poor agreement between the experimental data and the analytical results exists. In the last case, the evolutionary procedure can be used as a problem optimization method. After the evolutionary parameter extraction procedure is applied to the transistor output characteristics, the obtained results show an excellent agreement with the experimental data. This work was supported by projects TIN2015-67020-P, MAT2016-76892-C3-3-R, TEC2014-56244-R, and Excellence Networks REFLEXIO and NANOVAR funded by the Spanish “Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad” and European Regional Development Funds (ERDF)

Compact modeling of organic thin film transistors with solution processed octadecyl substituted tetrabenzotriazaporphyrin as an active layer

Using 70nm thick spin-coated film of newly synthesized octadecyl substituted copper tetrabenzotriazaporphyrin (10CuTBTAP) as an active layer on a highly doped silicon (110) gate electrode substrates, output characteristics and transfer characteristics of bottom-gate bottom-contact organic thin film transistors have been measured at room temperature. A compact model for thin film transistors has been employed as a part of circuit design tool to extract device parameters such as the charge carrier mobility μ, the threshold voltage VT and the contact resistances. Parallel measurements and analysis were performed on similarly constructed devices with a copper phthalocyanine analogue (10CuPc). The results reveal that the 10CuPc layer is relatively more susceptible to trapping degradation near the gate region than a 10CuTBTAP layer, which is significant in order to achieve stability in these transistors. The application of the simple square law in the classical MOS model provides a quicker but approximate interpretation of the transistor performance without providing information on the gate voltage dependence of mobility and the effects of the contact regions. In this comparative study, the analysis of the contact regions is found to be very important for determining the difference in the performance of two transistors

Effect of pH on the production of hydrolytic enzymes of industrial interest by Bacillus licheniformis using sewage sludge as a low-cost culture médium

Management of sewage sludge has become a topic of increasing importance. This is because the treatment and final destination of these wastes are not growing at the same rate at which generated what is necessary to add the limited storage capacity of wastewater treatment plants or waste transfer centers. Current policies of different governments aims, among others, promote proecological management of sewage sludge, replacing traditional methods by new methods that lead to their stabilization and safe recycling. These methods can lead to the recovery of valuable raw materials from potentially dangerous others in order to permit their use in agriculture, industry or energy production. Moreover, exists a great enzyme market, mainly those with hydrolytic activities such as proteases, lipases or cellulases. Although its use has many advantages, the competitiveness of the enzymes compared with chemicals is limited by its high production costs. The use of a less expensive culture media and the stimulation of the production of these enzymes can significantly reduce production costs. Therefore, the use of tertiary materials as alternative substrates, available in large quantities and at lower cost, is an interesting option. In this work we have studied the effect of pH on the fermentation of sewage sludge by Bacillus licheniformis, a hydrolytic enzymes producer microorganism, in order to obtain several products for specific agronomic applications

Assessment of drip irrigation sub-units using airborne thermal imagery acquired with an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)

The proper maintenance of irrigation sub-units is a key aspect for efficient irrigation and for ensuring that the theoretical high drip irrigation application efficiencies are achieved. The performance assessment methods are based on the discharge measurements of some emitters sampled within the irrigation unit. The emitter selection is a key aspect for guaranteeing that plot heterogeneity is well represented. In this work, thermal images obtained by means of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle over an irrigation district were used to determine irrigation performance. Four irrigation sub-units were assessed with standard methods. Canopy temperature showed a good correlation with the total flow discharge when plant water status variability in the sub-unit was high. When standard irrigation performance assessment protocols are used, the sample of emitters is small and so the large existing variability might not be taken into account. Aerial thermal images can quantify plant water status in large areas enabling the detection of some failures in the irrigation delivery system that might not be always detected with the standard irrigation performance assessment protocols

Ehlers-Danlos: A Literature Review and Case Report in a Colombian Woman with Multiple Comorbidities

Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a heterogeneous group of genetically transmitted connective tissue disorders that directly affect collagen synthesis, with a broad range of symptoms. Case presentation: This study presents a clinical case of a Colombian woman with myopathic EDS and multiple comorbidities taking 40 years of medical history to make the right diagnosis. This article also presents a review of the current literature on EDS, not only to remind the syndrome but also to help the clinician correctly identify symptoms of this diverse syndrome. Conclusion: A multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis of the patient, including clinical and molecular analysis, and neuropsychological and psychological assessment, is important to improve the treatment choice and the outcome prediction of the patients.Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a heterogeneous group of genetically transmitted connective tissue disorders that directly affect collagen synthesis, with a broad range of symptoms.
