The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C15H24O4, contains one half-molecule; a twofold rotation axis passes through the central C atom. The non-planar six- and five-membered rings adopt chair and envelope conformations, respectively. In the crystal structure, intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the molecules
Generation of bottle beam using low-density channel in air
Cylindrical density depressions generated by femtosecond laser pulses
filamenting in air for different energy depositions is investigated
numerically, by using a set of hydrodynamic equations. The evolution of density
profile is calculated for different temperature elevations, the results
indicate that the gas density hole is getting shallower and wider with the
increasing temperature elevations. A simulation of the propagation inside
low-density channel implies a new way to generate a type of bottle beam.Comment: 4 pages,5 figure
BAG5 Interacts with DJ-1 and Inhibits the Neuroprotective Effects of DJ-1 to Combat Mitochondrial Oxidative Damage
Loss-of-function mutations in gene encoding DJ-1 contribute to the pathogenesis of autosomal recessive early-onset familial forms of Parkinson’s disease (PD). DJ-1 is a multifunctional protein and plays a protective role against oxidative stress-induced mitochondrial damage and cell death, but the exact mechanism underlying this is not yet clearly understood. Here, using coimmunoprecipitation (Co-IP) and immunofluorescence methods, we prove that Bcl-2-associated athanogene 5 (BAG5), a BAG family member, interacts with DJ-1 in mammalian cells. Moreover, we show that BAG5 could decrease stability of DJ-1 and weaken its role in mitochondrial protection probably by influencing dimerization in stress condition. Our study reveals the relationship of BAG5 and DJ-1 suggesting a potential role for BAG5 in the pathogenesis of PD through its functional interactions with DJ-1
A new odorous frog species of Odorrana (Amphibia, Anura, Ranidae) from Guizhou Province, China
The frog genus Odorrana is distributed across east and southeastern Asia. Based on morphological differences and molecular phylogenetics, a new species of the genus occurring from Leigong Mountain in Guizhou Province, China is described. Phylogenetic analyses based on DNA sequences of the mitochondrial 12S rRNA, 16S rRNA, and ND2 genes supported the new species as an independent lineage. The uncorrected genetic distances between the 12S rRNA, 16S rRNA, and ND2 genes between the new species and its closest congener were 5.0%, 4.9%, and 16.3%, respectively. The new species is distinguished from its congeners by a combination of the following characters: body size moderate (SVL 39.1–49.4 mm in males, 49.7 mm in female); head width larger than head length; tympanum distinctly visible; small rounded granules scattered all over dorsal body and limbs; dorsolateral folds absent; heels overlapping when thighs are positioned at right angles to the body; tibiotarsal articulation reaching the level between eye to nostril when leg stretched forward; vocal sacs absent in male and nuptial pads present on the base of finger I
The application of radiomics in esophageal cancer: Predicting the response after neoadjuvant therapy
Esophageal cancer (EC) is one of the fatal malignant neoplasms worldwide. Neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) combined with surgery has become the standard treatment for locally advanced EC. However, the treatment efficacy for patients with EC who received NAT varies from patient to patient. Currently, the evaluation of efficacy after NAT for EC lacks accurate and uniform criteria. Radiomics is a multi-parameter quantitative approach for developing medical imaging in the era of precision medicine and has provided a novel view of medical images. As a non-invasive image analysis method, radiomics is an inevitable trend in NAT efficacy prediction and prognosis classification of EC by analyzing the high-throughput imaging features of lesions extracted from medical images. In this literature review, we discuss the definition and workflow of radiomics, the advances in efficacy prediction after NAT, and the current application of radiomics for predicting efficacy after NAT
Characteristic measurements of silicon dioxide aerogel plasmas generated in a Planckian radiation environment
Includes bibliographical references (pages 6-7).The temporally and spatially resolved characteristics of silicon dioxide aerogel plasmas were studied using x-ray spectroscopy. The plasma was generated in the near-Planckian radiation environment within gold hohlraum targets irradiated by laser pulses with a total energy of 2.4 kJ in 1 ns. The contributions of silicon ions at different charge states to the specific components of the measured absorption spectra were also investigated. It was found that each main feature in the absorption spectra of the measured silicon dioxide aerogel plasmas was contributed by two neighboring silicon ionic species
The LAMOST Survey of Background Quasars in the Vicinity of the Andromeda and Triangulum Galaxies -- II. Results from the Commissioning Observations and the Pilot Surveys
We present new quasars discovered in the vicinity of the Andromeda and
Triangulum galaxies with the LAMOST during the 2010 and 2011 observational
seasons. Quasar candidates are selected based on the available SDSS, KPNO 4 m
telescope, XSTPS optical, and WISE near infrared photometric data. We present
509 new quasars discovered in a stripe of ~135 sq. deg from M31 to M33 along
the Giant Stellar Stream in the 2011 pilot survey datasets, and also 17 new
quasars discovered in an area of ~100 sq. deg that covers the central region
and the southeastern halo of M31 in the 2010 commissioning datasets. These 526
new quasars have i magnitudes ranging from 15.5 to 20.0, redshifts from 0.1 to
3.2. They represent a significant increase of the number of identified quasars
in the vicinity of M31 and M33. There are now 26, 62 and 139 known quasars in
this region of the sky with i magnitudes brighter than 17.0, 17.5 and 18.0
respectively, of which 5, 20 and 75 are newly-discovered. These bright quasars
provide an invaluable collection with which to probe the kinematics and
chemistry of the ISM/IGM in the Local Group of galaxies. A total of 93 quasars
are now known with locations within 2.5 deg of M31, of which 73 are newly
discovered. Tens of quasars are now known to be located behind the Giant
Stellar Stream, and hundreds behind the extended halo and its associated
substructures of M31. The much enlarged sample of known quasars in the vicinity
of M31 and M33 can potentially be utilized to construct a perfect astrometric
reference frame to measure the minute PMs of M31 and M33, along with the PMs of
substructures associated with the Local Group of galaxies. Those PMs are some
of the most fundamental properties of the Local Group.Comment: 26 pages, 6 figures, AJ accepte
A photoluminescent nanocrystal-based signaling protocol highly sensitive to nerve agents and highly toxic organophosphate pesticides
A photoluminescent II-VI group semiconductor nanocrystal (NC)-based signaling platform composed of thioglycolic acid capped CdS NCs and acetylcholinesterase-acetylthiocholine enzyme catalytic reaction system was developed that was shown to be highly sensitive to nerve agents and toxic organophosphate pesticides with detection limits down to sub-nM levels. This new sensing protocol does not require troublesome conjugation of biomacromolecules onto the surface of NCs.NSF of China [20575078, 20675069, 20835005
Identification of microRNA-181 by genome-wide screening as a critical player in EpCAM-positive hepatic cancer stem cells
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression with functional links to tumorigenesis. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of liver cancer and it is heterogeneous in clinical outcomes and biological activities. Recently, we have identified a subset of highly invasive EpCAM+ HCC cells from AFP+ tumors with cancer stem/progenitor cell features, i.e., the abilities to self-renew, differentiate and initiate aggressive tumors in vivo. Here, using a global microarray-based microRNA profiling approach followed by validation with quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, we have demonstrated that conserved miR-181 family members were upregulated in EpCAM+AFP+ HCCs and in EpCAM+ HCC cells isolated from AFP+ tumors. Moreover, miR-181 family members were highly expressed in embryonic livers and in isolated hepatic stem cells. Importantly, inhibition of miR-181 led to a reduction in EpCAM+ HCC cell quantity and tumor initiating ability, while exogenous miR-181 expression in HCC cells resulted in an enrichment of EpCAM+ HCC cells. We have found that miR-181 could directly target hepatic transcriptional regulators of differentiation (i.e., CDX2 and GATA6) and an inhibitor of wnt/β-catenin signaling (i.e., NLK). Taken together, our results define a novel regulatory link between miR-181s and human EpCAM+ liver cancer stem/progenitor cells and imply that molecular targeting of miR-181 may eradicate HCC
Challenges and recent advancements of functionalization of two-dimensional nanostructured molybdenum trioxide and dichalcogenides
Atomically-thin two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors are the thinnest functional semiconducting materials available today. Among them, both molybdenum trioxide and chalcogenides (MT&Ds) represent key components within the family of the different 2D semiconductors for various electronic, optoelectronic and electrochemical applications due to their unique electronic, optical, mechanical and electrochemical properties. However, despite great progress in research dedicated to the development and fabrication of 2D MT&Ds observed within the last decade, there are significant challenges affected their charge transport behavior, fabrication on a large scale as well as high dependence of the carrier mobility on thickness. In this article, we review the recent progress on the carrier mobility engineering of 2D MT&Ds and elaborate devised strategies dedicated to the optimization of MT&Ds properties. Specifically, the latest physical and chemical methods towards the surface functionalization and optimization of the major factors influencing the extrinsic transport at the electrode-2D semiconductor interface are discusse
