    Performance Comparison of Terrestrial DVB Detection using LDPC and Turbo Codes

    Last-generation and future wireless communication standards, such as DVB-T2 or DVB-NGH, are including multi-antenna transmission and reception in order to increase bandwidth efficiency and receiver robustness. The main goal is to combine diversity and spatial multiplexing in order to fully exploit the multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) channel capacity. Full-rate full-diversity (FRFD) space-time codes (STC) such as the Golden code are studied for that purpose. However, despite their larger achievable capacity, most of them present high complexity for soft detection, which hinders their combination with soft-input decoders in bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) schemes. This article presents a low complexity soft detection algorithm for the reception of FRFD space-frequency block codes in BICM orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems and gives the performance comparision using Ldpc and Turbo codes. The proposed detector maintains a reduced and fixed complexity, avoiding the variable nature of the list sphere decoder (LSD) due to its dependence on the noise and channel conditions. Complexity and simulation based performance results are provided which show that the proposed detector performs close to the optimal log-maximum a posteriori (MAP) detection in a variety of DVB-T2 broadcasting scenarios

    A proteomic study to identify soya allergens - the human response to transgenic versus non-transgenic soya samples

    BACKGROUND: In spite of being among the main foods responsible for allergic reactions worldwide, soybean (Glycine max)-derived products continue to be increasingly widespread in a variety of food products due to their well-documented health benefits. Soybean also continues to be one of the elected target crops for genetic modification. The aim of this study was to characterize the soya proteome and, specifically, IgE-reactive proteins as well as to compare the IgE response in soya-allergic individuals to genetically modified Roundup Ready soya versus its non-transgenic control. METHODS: We performed two-dimensional gel electrophoresis of protein extracts from a 5% genetically modified Roundup Ready flour sample and its non-transgenic control followed by Western blotting with plasma from 5 soya-sensitive individuals. We used peptide tandem mass spectrometry to identify soya proteins (55 protein matches), specifically IgE-binding ones, and to evaluate differences between transgenic and non-transgenic samples. RESULTS: We identified 2 new potential soybean allergens--one is maturation associated and seems to be part of the late embryogenesis abundant proteins group and the other is a cysteine proteinase inhibitor. None of the individuals tested reacted differentially to the transgenic versus non-transgenic samples under study. CONCLUSION: Soybean endogenous allergen expression does not seem to be altered after genetic modification. Proteomics should be considered a powerful tool for functional characterization of plants and for food safety assessment

    Music Generation Using LSTM Neural Network

      With the advancement of machine learning, Neural Networks are utilized in various fields like music, writing and pictures. Music generation is a troublesome undertaking and has been effectively investigated since decades. In this paper we are proposing a system through which we can generate music automatically using Recurrent Neural Networks. The existing system like the markov model or graph-based minimization methods lack thematic structures and they are usually repetitive sequences of the same nodes. They typically overlook the data in the negative time heading, which is non-minor in the music expectation task, so we propose a bidirectional LSTM model to create the note succession. The system which we are proposing would produce unique and coherent compositions. We used a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network. They are a kind of Recurrent Neural Network that can proficiently learn through inclination plunge. Utilizing a gating instrument, LSTMs can perceive and encode long haul designs. LSTMs are very helpful to take care of issues where the network needs to recall data for an extensive stretch of time similar to the case in music and text age

    Investigating the use of sensor-based IoET to facilitate learning for children in rural Thailand

    A novel sensor-based Internet of Educational Things (IoET) platform named OBSY was iteratively designed, developed and evaluated to support education in rural regions in Thailand. To assess the effectiveness of this platform, a study was carried out at four primary schools located near the Thai northern border with 244 students and 8 teachers. Participants were asked to carry out three science-based learning activities and were measured for improvements in learning outcome and learning engagement. Overall, the results showed that students in the IoET group who had used OBSY to learn showed significantly higher learning outcome and had better learning engagement than those in the control condition. In addition, for those in the IoET group, there was no significant effect regarding gender, home location (Urban or Rural), age, prior experience with technology and ethnicity on learning outcome. For learning engagement, only age was found to influence interest/enjoyment. The study demonstrated the potential of IoET technologies in underprivileged area, through a co-design approach with teachers and students, taking into account the local contexts

    Acute mountain sickness (AMS) is a clinical syndrome occurring in otherwise healthy normal individuals who ascend rapidly to high altitude. Symptoms develop over a period ofa few hours or days. The usual symptoms include headache, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, lethargy, unsteadiness of gait, undue dyspnoea on moderate exertion and interrupted sleep. AMS is unrelated to physical fitness, sex or age except that young children over two years of age are unduly susceptible. One of the striking features ofAMS is the wide variation in individual susceptibility which is to some extent consistent. Some subjects never experience symptoms at any altitude while others have repeated attacks on ascending to quite modest altitudes. Rapid ascent to altitudes of 2500 to 3000m will produce symptoms in some subjects while after ascent over 23 days to 5000m most subjects will be affected, some to a marked degree. In general, the more rapid the ascent, the higher the altitude reached and the greater the physical exertion involved, the more severe AMS will be. Ifthe subjects stay at the altitude reached there is a tendency for acclimatization to occur and symptoms to remit over 1-7 days

    This paper proposes a series active filter and shunt active filter to minimize the power quality impact present in matrix converters instead of passive filter. A matrix converter produces significant harmonics and nonstandard frequency components into load. The proposed system compensates the sag and swell problems efficiently in matrix converter. The proposed system has been tested and validated on the matrix converter using MATLAB/Simulink software. Simulated results confirm that the active power filters can maintain high performance for matrix converter
