Estudio experimental del Sistema de Albañilería Integral en la construcción de viviendas sismorresistentes. Experimental study of the Integral Masonry System in the construction of earthquake resistant houses
This paper presents the application of the Integral
Masonry System (IMS) to the construction of earthquake
resistant houses and its experimental study. To verify the
security of this new type of building in seismic areas of
the third world two prototypes have been tested, one
with adobe and the other with hollow brick. In both
cases it’s a two-story 6x6x6 m3 house built to scale 1/2.
The tests are carried out at the Laboratory of Antiseismic
Structures of the Department of Engineering,
Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in Lima, in
collaboration with the UPM (Technical University of
Madrid).
This article shows the design process of the prototypes to
test, including the sizing of the reinforcements, the
characteristics of the tests and the results obtained. These
results show that the IMS with adobe or brick remains
stable with no significant cracks faced with a severe
earthquake, with an estimated acceleration of 1.8 g.

Anglo-Saxon verbs of sounds: Semantic architecture, lexical representation and constructions
This paper provides a detailed analysis of the semantic structure of Anglo-Saxon verbs
of sound from the point of view of the Lexical Grammar Model (LGM). Firstly, a
description of the theoretical foundations of the LGM for the analysis of lexical
structures and the specific methodological principles developed for historical
vocabularies will be provided. Secondly, the semantic architecture of the verbal domain
of Old English sound predicates will be offered. Thirdly, the system of lexical
decomposition proposed by the LGM and its application to the lexical class under study
will be explained. This system has the format of a lexical template which will be
fundamental to understand the linking algorithm that mediates between the semantic
representation of sound predicates and their morpho-syntactic realizations. This linking
process has two phases: the first one will bind the lexical template of verbs of sound
with the representation of the constructions and alternations where these predicates
appear whereas the second interface will account for their grammatical behaviour
Yangian Symmetry for the Tree Amplituhedron
17 pages, 4 figures; v2: extended discussion of results, minor typos corrected, version published in Journal of Physics ATree-level scattering amplitudes in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills are known to be Yangian-invariant. It has been shown that integrability allows to obtain a general, explicit method to find such invariants. The uplifting of this result to the amplituhedron construction has been an important open problem. In this paper, with the help of methods proper to integrable theories, we successfully fill this gap and clarify the meaning of Yangian invariance for the tree-level amplituhedron. In particular, we construct amplituhedron volume forms from an underlying spin chain. As a by-product of this construction, we also propose a novel on-shell diagrammatics for the amplituhedron.Peer reviewe
Madera en altura, estado del arte
This article is focused on analysing the current situation of timber high-rise construction. It begins with a historical review from the traditional Pagodas (up to 63 m tall) to visions of the future that rises to 350 m. It states the technical development that has led mass timber to today’s engineered products and its researches. It displays timber’s behaviour to fire and its properties as a structural material compared to others more commonly used in high-rise construction. It proves to be as mechanically competitive as concrete or high strength steel. Different strategies can be used against horizontal forces to obtain maximum slenderness. However, its main advantage, from an ecological point of view, is its capacity to absorb CO2, which, along its high degree of prefabrication, makes it a sustainable alternative with an increasing acceptance.

Sedimentary Facies of the Eastern Pacific\u27s Northernmost Reef-Like Setting (Cabo Pulmo, Mexico)
Cabo Pulmo, Mexico, is often cited as the eastern Pacific\u27s northernmost coral reef. We investigated sedimentary dynamics to verify whether the system functions sedimentologically as a reef, which would mean that it retained internal sediment in a framework and exported peri-reefal sediment creating clearly identifiable facies dominated by reefal fauna. We mapped distribution of sediments using grab samples, the acoustic ground-discrimination systems QTC View and Echoplus at 50 kHz signal frequency and an IKONOS satellite image. Morphologically, the bay of Cabo Pulmo can be divided into intrusive dikes and rocky hardgrounds in less than 10 m depth and a sandy interior with rocky outcrops sloping to over 40 m. Reefal fauna without lasting framework-building but with production of typically reef-associated carbonate sediments, as well as a patch-reef facies were found on the dikes and hardgrounds. Sediments in the bay were a mixture of carbonates and siliciclastics and were influenced by a seasonal river near the bay\u27s center that imported siliciclastic material. To the north and south sediments had a higher carbonate content, although overall the bay was characterized by \u3e 50% siliciclastics. The shallower subtidal sands were dominated by mollusk fragments, whereas in depths \u3e 30 m planktonic foraminiferal sand was found. Acoustically and optically remote-sensed maps were used to differentiate between the rocky and sandy areas and to identify the presumed off-shelf transport pathway of reef-derived carbonates. Overall, the sedimentary system is characterized by carbonate production, but the coarser reef derived carbonates (coral and reef-dwelling mollusks) are transported off-shelf along a steep depth gradient and little typical peri-reef sediment remains. This transport is likely aided by storms. Since no sediment retaining frameworks are formed, the dikes cannot retain internal sediment, and the reefal fauna was not dominant in sediments throughout the bay, we conclude that Cabo Pulmo sedimentologically functions only in a limited way like a coral reef
Glutathione determination by the Tietze enzymatic recycling assay and its relationship to cellular radiation response.
Large fluctuations in glutathione content were observed on a daily basis using the Tietze enzyme recycling assay in a panel of six human cell lines of varying radiosensitivity. Glutathione content tended to increase to a maximum during exponential cell proliferation, and then decreased at different rates as the cells approached plateau phase. By reference to high-performance liquid chromatography and flow cytometry of the fluorescent bimane derivative we were able to verify that these changes were real. However, the Tietze assay was occasionally unable to detect glutathione in two of our cell lines (MGH-U1 and AT5BIVA), although the other methods indicated its presence. The existence of an inhibitory activity responsible for these anomalies was confirmed through spiking our samples with known amounts of glutathione. We were unable to detect a direct relationship between cellular glutathione concentration and aerobic radiosensitivity in our panel of cell lines
Tree-level scattering amplitudes from the amplituhedron
7 pages, 2 figures, to be published in the Journal of Physics: Conference Series. Proceedings for the "7th Young Researcher Meeting", Torino, 2016A central problem in quantum field theory is the computation of scattering amplitudes. However, traditional methods are impractical to calculate high order phenomenologically relevant observables. Building on a few decades of astonishing progress in developing non-standard computational techniques, it has been recently conjectured that amplitudes in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills are given by the volume of the (dual) amplituhedron. After providing an introduction to the subject at tree-level, we discuss a special class of differential equations obeyed by the corresponding volume forms. In particular, we show how they fix completely the amplituhedron volume for next-to-maximally helicity violating scattering amplitudes.Peer reviewe
