FAMILY HEALTH MANAGEMENT AND POVERTY IN AN ECONOMIC RECESSION PERIOD IN PORTUGAL

Abstract: The main purpose of this article, in the management and health, was to assess the contribution of family health and its role in local development in the context of economic recession and worsening poverty in Portugal. Material and Methods. Data were collected through the questionnaire, 1021 individuals were inquired in Portugal, with statistical treatment through inferential analysis, factorial and regression. They were asked to participate voluntarily in writing through email participating randomly. The sample was stratified by District, a territorial division used in the country. The respondents A response rate was 48%. The validity of established factors was evaluated through a confirmatory factor analysis with AMOS software. The consistency was measured with Cronbach's α. We used the "measure of the adequacy of sampling Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin" (KMO = 0.668) and the "sphericity test Barthlet" (χ2 = 1611.452; df = 276; Sig = 0.000). To analyze the average life expectancy by region it was considered the Life expectancy at Birth (LE - Average number of years a person can expect to live at birth, keeping the mortality rates by age observed in the reference time) from the National Institute of Statistics. Results and Conclusions. In the descriptive summary, the aspect of life considered more important for respondents is the health (49.5%), followed by family (45.4%), work (2.8%) and cash (1.3%). It is therefore possible to act on health and focusing on critical variables that have a material impact on the perception of health and the connection to the average life expectancy, development indicator. The role of hermaphrodites in the experimental evolution of increased outcrossing rates in Caenorhabditis elegans

Why most organisms reproduce via outcrossing rather than selfing is a central question in evolutionary biology. It has long ago been suggested that outcrossing is favoured when it facilitates adaptation to novel environments. We have previously shown that the experimental evolution of increased outcrossing rates in populations of the male-hermaphrodite nematode Caenorhabditis elegans were correlated with the experimental evolution of increased male fitness. Reabilitação do emissário das Marianas ao longo do bairro das Marianas e entre o bairro do Junqueiro e a estação elevatória de Carcavelos

O presente relatório de estágio está inserido no âmbito do Trabalho Final de Mestrado do perfil de Edificações, relativo ao curso de Engenharia Civil, do Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, sobre a Reabilitação do Emissário das Marianas ao Longo do Bairro das Marianas e entre o Bairro do Junqueiro e a Estação Elevatória de Carcavelos. O estágio foi desenvolvido na empresa PENGEST – Planeamento, Engenharia e Gestão, S.A. e teve como objecto uma prestação de serviços para a SANEST – Saneamento da Costa do Estoril, SA, nomeadamente, serviços de fiscalização, gestão e controlo da qualidade, do ambiente e da segurança da empreitada. O estágio realizado baseou-se na fiscalização e acompanhamento dos trabalhos de construção e reabilitação do Emissário das Marianas. O objectivo inicial do estágio foi o de interpretar as peças escritas e desenhadas e ver a sua aplicação em obra, conhecer as técnicas e materiais a aplicar nas diferentes fases da obra, relacionando assim, a sua aplicação como prevenção de possíveis patologias. Deste modo, tive a missão de garantir o domínio técnico das diferentes disciplinas desta obra, garantir também uma atitude experiente de discernimento e capacidade conciliadora, bem como uma capacidade de diálogo com os responsáveis do Empreiteiro. Também foi necessário dialogar com as populações locais e com as empresas concessionárias de serviços públicos afectos à obra, intervir em todas as situações de conflito entre os interesses individuais ou colectivos, e os interesses da Sanest, em garantir a qualidade, o cumprimento dos prazos e o custo previsto da obra

The domiciliary support in the vision of the informal care provider

The home support services are a social response in order to improve the quality of life directed predominantly for the elderly and for people with varying degrees of disability and dependence. Examples of those services are hygiene and personal comfort, medication, housekeeping and cleaning, preparation and monitoring of the meals; the dressing, etc. It is necessary to make society aware of the importance of these services to all those who need them. The general objective was to understand the most important relationships among informal caregivers, those who are care and home support services providers. Material and Methods. Data were collected through a questionnaire, using the various dimensions of the construct Quality SERVPERF model of service that matches the 22 items of SERVQUAL model. The various items used to assess the perception of care individuals and informal caregivers about the quality of home care services. 82 individuals participated providers of informal care, to receive home support services, and exclusion criteria, the fact of having a diagnosed psychiatric illness or psychological factors that prevent them from responding. The analysis was performed with SPSS and SEM-PLS for the estimation of the proposed structural model. Written consent was obtained, free and clear of each subject. Results and Conclusions. The results showed that the relationships with healthcare professionals are the most important positive effects on satisfaction. This research emphasizes the need to work closely with health professionals to improve the relationship between technicians and patients. Although current constructs appear to explain much of the satisfaction, it is recommended that the future researches exploit new variables, to get a better understanding of the effects of public health policies on the quality of life of these patients

Efeito moderador do exercício físico no desempenho no trabalho

As características individuais dos trabalhadores são variáveis importantes que contribuem para a competitividade das organizações. O ambiente de trabalho atual possui um elevado grau de sedentarismo, o que influi nas características dos funcionários e no seu desempenho. Este estudo investiga o efeito moderador do exercício físico na relação entre o compromisso organizacional, a satisfação no trabalho, a motivação e o desempenho no trabalho. Este trabalho quantitativo utiliza dados recolhidos através de um questionário online. Os dados foram analisados através da utilização de Modelos de Equações Estruturais e foi realizada uma análise de moderação para determinar o efeito moderador do exercício físico. Os resultados mostram que há relações entre a desmotivação, motivação intrínseca, satisfação no trabalho e o desempenho no trabalho na sua dimensão de criatividade, bem como entre a motivação intrínseca, satisfação no trabalho e o desempenho no trabalho na sua dimensão de emergências. Conclui-se ainda que as relações são moderadas pelo nível de exercício realizado pelo colaborador.One of the greatest concerns of managers is to maintain good levels of performance. The individual characteristics of employees are important variables that contribute to the competitiveness of organizations. The current work environment has a high degree of sedentary lifestyle, which influences the characteristics of the employees and their performance. This study investigates the moderating effect of physical exercise on the relationship between organizational commitment, job satisfaction, motivation and job performance. This quantitative work uses data collected through an online questionnaire. Data were analysed using Structural Equation Models and a moderation analysis was performed to determine the effect of physical exercise. The results show that there is a relationship between demotivation, intrinsic motivation, job satisfaction and job performance in its creativity dimension, as well as between intrinsic motivation, job satisfaction and job performance in its emergency dimension. O papel da inovação como factor de sucesso no mercado competitivo actual : um estudo aplicado à Portugal Telecom

Mestrado em Gestão e EmpreendedorismoEstando as organizações sujeitas a uma cada vez maior concorrência na maioria dos mercados graças ao fenómeno da globalização, estas terão de adoptar novas estratégias de modo a que a concorrência não seja um entrave ao seu desenvolvimento e ao seu sucesso futuro. Com tudo isto as organizações têm que ter consciência que só através de uma aposta centrada na inovação conseguirão diferenciarem-se dos demais concorrentes e assim sobreviver aos mercados altamente competitivos e aos consumidores cada vez mais exigentes. Este estudo tem assim como principal fundamento demonstrar que a principal aliada das organizações no Século XXI é claramente a inovação, conseguindo directamente com esta aposta melhorar as suas performances gerais em termos de resultados de um conjunto importante de indicadores que lhes permitirão aumentar a sua competitividade. Contudo para implementar uma inovação no mercado primeiro, a liderança da organização terá de fomentar internamente uma cultura de inovação com traços característicos e com isto desenvolver um determinado tipo de inovação tendo em conta o mercado em que se querem inserir e consoante os objectivos da própria organização. De modo a cumprir tal fundamento será analisado como objecto de estudo o caso do lançamento do conceito MEO por parte da Portugal Telecom (PT) que permitiu a esta organização melhorar de uma maneira bastante considerável os seus resultados em termos de receitas, número de clientes e de relevância no mercado, situação que não aconteceria certamente caso o serviço prestado pela MEO não apresentasse funcionalidades inovadoras em comparação com as existentes neste mercado.Once the organisations are subject to an ever increasing competition in most markets due to the phenomenon of globalisation, they will have to adopt new strategies in such a way that competition does not become an hindrance to their development and their success in the future. With this in mind the organisations will have to be recognizant that only through an effort centred on innovation will they be able to differentiate themselves from the competitors and thus survive the highly competitive markets and the ever more demanding consumers. This study has its main concern in displaying that the main ally of XXI century organisations is clearly innovation, that through innovation the organisations become able to improve their general performance in various important indicators that allows them to increase their competitiveness. But, in order to implement an innovation in the market, the leadership of a given organisation will have to implement an internal innovation culture first, with its very own characteristic traces, and in this way develop a specific kind of innovation considering the market in which they want to penetrate. In order to achieve the main goal, the object of study to be analyzed will be the launching of the concept MEO by Portugal Telecom (PT) which allowed this organisation to improve by a considerable margin its results in matters of revenue, number of clients and relevancy in the market, a situation that certainly would not happen if the service offered by MEO did not include innovative functionalities in comparison to those existing in the market

A câmara obscura e o registo fotográfico digital : associação de uma câmara estenopeica a um scanner de varrimento linear

Para este estudo, foi construído um equipamento de captação de imagem que tem por base a associação de uma câmara estenopeica a um "scanner" de varrimento linear, criando assim um processo tecnicamente diferente do processo tradicional e que levanta algumas questões sobre como o processo de captação formata o conteúdo das imagens. ABSTRACT: This dissertation analises the process of photographic image capture, crossing the basic principles of the "Camera Obscura" with modern register of digital image and it's post processing. For this study was built an image capture equipment that results of the association of a Pinhole Camera and a linear scan Scanner, criating therefore a tecnicaly diferent process than the traditional one, that raises some questions about the way that the capture process formats the image content

Creativity, Psycap And Leadership: The Sight Of Professionals The Health Organizations

Nas organizações do sector de saúde, a pesquisa sobre liderança e o seu impacto no capital psicológico e na criatividade, em qualquer tipo de contexto organizacional, é quase inexistente. Para reduzir essa lacuna, o objetivo deste texto foi identificar em que medida a percepção de uma liderança autêntica e o capital psicológico influenciam a criatividade dos profissionais de um Centro Hospitalar Português. Os dados relacionados com os conceitos de liderança, capital psicológico e criatividade foram obtidos por meio de um questionário constituído por três partes: capital psicológico positivo; liderança autêntica, e dados demográficos e funcionais, numa amostra de 61 líderes das chefias intermédias dos diversos serviços dos 22 departamentos de Centro Hospitalar, bem como de 183 colaboradores selecionados aleatoriamente pelos líderes. As respostas foram analisadas através da utilização das análises fatoriais e das equações estruturais. Os resultados obtidos confirmaram duas das três hipóteses consideradas no estudo, sugerindo a existência de uma forte relação entre a liderança autêntica e o capital psicológico, e entre este e a criatividade, não sendo explicada diretamente a criatividade pela liderança. Evolution of Outcrossing in Experimental Populations of Caenorhabditis elegans

Caenorhabditis elegans can reproduce exclusively by self-fertilization. Yet, males can be maintained in laboratory populations, a phenomenon that continues to puzzle biologists. In this study we evaluated the role of males in facilitating adaptation to novel environments. For this, we contrasted the evolution of a fitness component exclusive to outcrossing in experimental populations of different mating systems. We introgressed a modifier of outcrossing into a hybrid population derived from several wild isolates to transform the wild-type androdioecious mating system into a dioecious mating system. By genotyping 375 single-nucleotide polymorphisms we show that the two populations had similar standing genetic diversity available for adaptation, despite the occurrence of selection during their derivation. We then performed replicated experimental evolution under the two mating systems from starting conditions of either high or low levels of diversity, under defined environmental conditions of discrete non-overlapping generations, constant density at high population sizes (N = 104), no obvious spatial structure and abundant food resources. During 100 generations measurements of sex ratios and male competitive performance showed: 1) adaptation to the novel environment; 2) directional selection on male frequency under androdioecy; 3) optimal outcrossing rates of 0.5 under androdioecy; 4) the existence of initial inbreeding depression; and finally 5) that the strength of directional selection on male competitive performance does not depend on male frequencies. Taken together, these results suggest that androdioecious males are maintained at intermediate frequencies because outcrossing is adaptive
