Both verification and testing of concurrent systems require exploring all possible non-deterministic interleavings that the concurrent execution may have, as any of the interleavings may reveal an erroneous behavior of the system. This introduces a combinatorial explosion on the number of program states that must be considered, what leads often to a computationally intractable problem. The overall goal of this thesis is to investigate novel techniques for testing and verification of concurrent programs that reduce this combinatorial explosion...Fac. de InformáticaTRUEunpu

    Get PDF
This article made within the doctoral program is an approximation and study the role of narrative in mental illness, from an interpretive perspective and hermeneutics, by analyzing clinical cases documented in a Mental Health Unit. The main objective of this research was to give voice to the subject suffering from mental illnesses who were admitted to a psychiatric hospital. My point of departure for empirical finding of this research was how to equip themselves give meaning or subject diagnosed with mental illness to madness in the psychiatric hospital

The 3XMM/SDSS Stripe 82 Galaxy Cluster Survey II. X-ray and optical properties of the cluster sample

We present X-ray and optical properties of the optically confirmed galaxy cluster sample from the 3XMM/SDSS Stripe 82 cluster survey. The sample includes 54 galaxy clusters in the redshift range of 0.05-1.2, with a median redshift of 0.36. We first present the X-ray temperature and luminosity measurements that are used to investigate the X-ray luminosity-temperature relation. The slope and intercept of the relation are consistent with those published in the literature. Then, we investigate the optical properties of the cluster galaxies including their morphological analysis and the galaxy luminosity functions. The morphological content of cluster galaxies is investigated as a function of cluster mass and distance from the cluster center. No strong variation of the fraction of early and late type galaxies with cluster mass is observed. The fraction of early type galaxies as a function of cluster radius varies as expected. The individual galaxy luminosity functions (GLFs) of red sequence galaxies were studied in the five ugriz bands for 48 clusters. The GLFs were then stacked in three mass bins and two redshift bins. Twenty clusters of the present sample are studied for the first time in X-rays, and all are studied for the first time in the optical range. Altogether, our sample appears to have X-ray and optical properties typical of average cluster properties.Comment: accepted for publications in MNRA

Star formation and AGN activity in the most luminous LINERs in the local universe

This work presents the properties of 42 objects in the group of the most luminous, highest star formation rate LINERs at z = 0.04 - 0.11. We obtained long-slit spectroscopy of the nuclear regions for all sources, and FIR data (Herschel and IRAS) for 13 of them. We measured emission line intensities, extinction, stellar populations, stellar masses, ages, AGN luminosities, and star-formation rates. We find considerable differences from other low-redshift LINERs, in terms of extinction, and general similarity to star forming (SF) galaxies. We confirm the existence of such luminous LINERs in the local universe, after being previously detected at z ~ 0.3 by Tommasin et al. (2012). The median stellar mass of these LINERs corresponds to 6 - 7 ×\times 1010^{10}M_{\odot} which was found in previous work to correspond to the peak of relative growth rate of stellar populations and therefore for the highest SFRs. Other LINERs although showing similar AGN luminosities have lower SFR. We find that most of these sources have LAGN ~ LSF suggesting co-evolution of black hole and stellar mass. In general among local LINERs being on the main-sequence of SF galaxies is related to their AGN luminosity.Comment: submitted to MNRA

    Get PDF
In this paper we offer a discussion of potentially positive and negative aspects of the perceived role of social media as fostering a new digital public sphere and motivating further political debate and participation. We use Eco's classical distinction between "apocalyptic" and "integrated" intellectuals as a conceptual and rhetorical semiotic tool to frame the discussion upon these subjects

Deep Learning Techniques to Improve the Performance of Olive Oil Classification

    Get PDF
The olive oil assessment involves the use of a standardized sensory analysis according to the “panel test” method. However, there is an important interest to design novel strategies based on the use of Gas Chromatography (GC) coupled to mass spectrometry (MS), or ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) together with a chemometric data treatment for olive oil classification. It is an essential task in an attempt to get the most robust model over time and, both to avoid fraud in the price and to know whether it is suitable for consumption or not. The aim of this paper is to combine chemical techniques and Deep Learning approaches to automatically classify olive oil samples from two different harvests in their three corresponding classes: extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), virgin olive oil (VOO), and lampante olive oil (LOO). Our Deep Learning model is built with 701 samples, which were obtained from two olive oil campaigns (2014–2015 and 2015–2016). The data from the two harvests are built from the selection of specific olive oil markers from the whole spectral fingerprint obtained with GC-IMS method. In order to obtain the best results we have configured the parameters of our model according to the nature of the data. The results obtained show that a deep learning approach applied to data obtained from chemical instrumental techniques is a good method when classifying oil samples in their corresponding categories, with higher success rates than those obtained in previous works.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2017-88209-C2-2-

Oral lichenoid lesions related to contact with dental materials: A literature review

    Get PDF
Oral lichenoid lesions related to contact are defined as oral-cavity eruptions with an identifiable etiology, and are clinically and histologically similar to oral lichen planus. Within this group are found oral lichenoid lesions related to contact with dental materials (OLLC), the most common being those related to silver amalgam. Currently, it remains difficult to diagnose these lesions due to the clinical and histopathological similarity with oral lichen planus and other oral mucosa lesions of lichenoid characteristics. In the present paper, we carry out an updated review of the tests for, and the different characteristics of OLLC, which may aid the diagnosis. For this review, we made searches in the Pubmed® and Cochrane® databases. Among the literature we found several published papers, from which we have used review papers, case papers, cohort studies, case and control studies, and a meta-analysis study. After carrying out this review, we can conclude that the diagnosis of these lesions is still difficult and controversial. However, there are different aspects in the clinical presentation, pathological study and results obtained when replacing suspect materials, which, when taken together, may be useful when establishing the final diagnosis of OLLC

New applicactions of non-conventional analytical detectors based on ionization processes

    Deadlock-Guided Testing in CLP

    Get PDF
Static deadlock analyzers might be able to verify the absence of deadlock. However, they are usually not able to detect its presence. Also, when they detect a potential deadlock cycle, they provide little (or even no) information on their output. Due to the complex flow of concurrent programs, the user might not be able to find the source of the anomalous behaviour from the abstract information computed by static analysis. This work proposes the combined use of static analysis and testing for effective deadlock detection in asynchronous programs. The asynchronous program is first translated into a CLP-version so that the whole combined approach is carried out by relying on the inherent backtracking mechanism and constraint handling of CLP. When the program features a deadlock, our combined use of analysis and testing provides an effective technique to catch deadlock traces. While if the program does not have deadlock, but the analyzer inaccurately spotted it, we might be able to prove deadlock freedom. The main results in this project have been submitted to: - the special issue on Computational Logic for Verification of the journal Theory and Practice of Logic Programming and - the 27th International Symposium on Logic-Based Program Synthesis and Transformation (LOPSTR'17), and are currently under revision
