A Systems Paradigm for Community Development

The study of and practice in communities requires a theoretic construct of an overarching conceptualization that can sweep-in existing paradigms; variant epistemological foundations and methodological directives for complex community development. The purpose of this paper is to identify and define the existing epistemological and methodological approaches to communities with the objective of coalescing them into a unified system of inquiry. The intent is to first raise the level of abstraction in and about a community that goes beyond the confines of any (or combined) paradigm. In so doing, one can converge a polarity of opposing positions to the study and understanding of communities. This is a social design professional activity: the arrangement of, and the processes of arranging and rearranging the human, social and technical resources of a community to achieved desired results. Secondly, a social design function builds community systems by anticipating human and social needs: developing strategies for realization and tactics for their implementation

Costs Awards for Self-Represented Litigants

Over 200 Canadian decisions have now been read, analyzed, and added to the Self-Represented Litigants Case Law Database (CLD) by researchers at the National Self-Represented Litigants Project (NSRLP). The purpose of this database is to track the emerging jurisprudence at all levels of courts across Canada, as it relates to self-representation, and to present findings that highlight patterns and themes evident within decisions reported by Canadian courts from coast to coast. Self-represented litigants, or SRLs, face unique obstacles and challenges throughout trial proceedings. Cases included within the CLD focus on four issues that the NSRLP has noticed are raised with increasing regularity where one or both parties are self-represented: (1) the description of SRLs as vexatious litigants or as engaging in “vexatious behaviour”; (2) requested accommodations being either declined or accepted; (3) questions about procedural fairness and judicial assistance; and (4) the nature of costs being awarded for or against the SRL. Finite element simulation of semi-finishing turning of Electron Beam Melted Ti6Al4V under dry and cryogenic cooling

open6noIn the last few years, important step forwards have been made on Finite Element Simulation of machining operations. Wrought Ti6Al4V alloy has been deeply investigated both numerically and experimentally due to its wide application in the industry. Recently, Additive Manufacturing technologies as the Electron Beam Melting and the Direct Melting Laser Sintering are more and more employed in the production of biomedical and aeronautical components made of Ti6Al4V alloy. Fine acicular microstructures are generated by the application of additive manufacturing technologies, affecting the mechanical properties and the machinability. By the consequence, this peculiarity has to be considered in modelling the material behaviour. In this work, a numerical analysis of cylindrical external turning on Electron Beam Melted (EBM) Ti6Al4V alloy is presented. A Johnson-Cook constitutive equation was implemented as a flow stress model and adapted with respect to the wrought Ti6Al4V alloy. L’immagine letteraria della prostituta a Buenos Aires: dalla denuncia alla nostalgia

2009 - 2010La mia tesi è incentrata sulla rappresentazione letteraria della prostituta a Buenos Aires e prende in considerazione la produzione narrativa argentina lungo un arco temporale che va dagli anni Venti agli anni Ottanta del secolo scorso. L’obiettivo dello studio è stato quello di analizzare le trasformazioni riguardanti la rappresentazione di un personaggio marginale della società, la prostituta, che però ha ricoperto a lungo un ruolo da protagonista nello scenario porteño – a cavallo tra il XIX ed il XX secolo Buenos Aires ha rappresentato, a causa dell’intensa attività postribolare sviluppatasi per far fronte alle necessità di una massa migratoria prevalentemente maschile, una delle capitali mondiali della prostituzione –, ripresentandosi inoltre puntualmente nel panorama letterario n argentino. La mia analisi si è inizialmente focalizzata sulla produzione realista ed avanguardista degli anni Venti e Trenta, nella quale la prostituta viene utilizzata come veicolo di denuncia delle ingiustizie sociali e dei danni della modernizzazione incessante, o come strumento per impadronirsi di nuovi spazi letterari e per sfruttare il potenziale narrativo racchiuso nelle figure marginali; si è poi rivolta alla letteratura degli anni Sessanta, nella quale l’attenzione si sposta dalla città e dalle sue zone della mala vida alle vicende individuali della prostituta e che porta avanti una critica dell’ipocrisia borghese; infine si è concentrata sulla produzione letteraria che nella seconda metà del secolo inserisce la prostituta nella cornice del romanzo poliziesco o della novela a enigma, nell’ambito di testi che utilizzano però il personaggio e l’ambientazione policial per effettuare esperimenti metaletterari, proporre al lettore riflessioni sulle grandi tematiche esistenziali o recuperare nostalgicamente il passato degli scrittori e della stessa nazione argentina. In questa tesi, che non segue nell’esame dei testi uno stretto criterio cronologico, e si sofferma anche a riflettere sui rapporti della letteratura con il tango o con il mito, l’attenzione viene rivolta in particolare al modo in cui gli scrittori, attraverso la rappresentazione della prostituta – figura affascinante, che viene considerata una porta d’accesso all’ambiente dell’arrabal, del sobborgo –, recuperino problematiche e figure occultate dalla retorica ufficiale, organizzando una contro-narrazione della storia nazionale e rendendo visibili le contraddizioni di una società che cerca di affermarsi sullo scenario internazionale. La mia attenzione si è focalizzata anche sull’immagine restituita nei testi della città di Buenos Aires, dei suoi sobborghi, delle sue zone postribolari, e delle trasformazioni che hanno portato la capitale della giovane nazione argentina a diventare con gli anni una frenetica metropoli, mostrando inoltre i cambiamenti del concetto di frontiera il quale, da sempre presente nella storia e nella letteratura nazionale, viene riproposto in gran parte dei testi analizzati.
