Highly stacked 3D organic integrated circuits with via-hole-less multilevel metal interconnects
Multilevel metal interconnects are crucial for the development of large-scale organic integrated circuits. In particular, three-dimensional integrated circuits require a large number of vertical interconnects between layers. Here, we present a novel multilevel metal interconnect scheme that involves solvent-free patterning of insulator layers to form an interconnecting area that ensures a reliable electrical connection between two metals in different layers. Using a highly reliable interconnect method, the highest stacked organic transistors to date, a three-dimensional organic integrated circuits consisting of 5 transistors and 20 metal layers, is successfully fabricated in a solvent-free manner. All transistors exhibit outstanding device characteristics, including a high on/off current ratio of similar to 10(7), no hysteresis behavior, and excellent device-to-device uniformity. We also demonstrate two vertically-stacked complementary inverter circuits that use transistors on 4 different floors. All circuits show superb inverter characteristics with a 100% output voltage swing and gain up to 35 V per V.11Ysciescopu
Spherical Relativistic Hartree theory in a Woods-Saxon basis
The Woods-Saxon basis has been suggested to replace the widely used harmonic
oscillator basis for solving the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory in order
to generalize it to study exotic nuclei. As examples, relativistic Hartree
theory is solved for spherical nuclei in a Woods-Saxon basis obtained by
solving either the Schr\"odinger equation or the Dirac equation (labelled as
SRHSWS and SRHDWS, respectively and SRHWS for both). In SRHDWS, the negative
levels in the Dirac Sea must be properly included. The basis in SRHDWS could be
smaller than that in SRHSWS which will simplify the deformed problem. The
results from SRHWS are compared in detail with those from solving the spherical
relativistic Hartree theory in the harmonic oscillator basis (SRHHO) and those
in the coordinate space (SRHR). All of these approaches give identical nuclear
properties such as total binding energies and root mean square radii for stable
nuclei. For exotic nuclei, e.g., Ca, SRHWS satisfactorily reproduces the
neutron density distribution from SRHR, while SRHHO fails. It is shown that the
Woods-Saxon basis can be extended to more complicated situations for exotic
nuclei where both deformation and pairing have to be taken into account.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figure
Single-Particle and Collective Motion for Proton-Rich Nuclei on the Astrophysical rp-Process Path
Based on available experimental data, a new set of Nilsson parameters is
proposed for proton-rich nuclei with proton or neutron numbers . The resulting single-particle spectra are compared with those from
relativistic and non-relativistic mean field theories. Collective excitations
in some even--even proton-rich nuclei in the upper shell are investigated
using the Projected Shell Model with the new Nilsson basis. It is found that
the regular bands are sharply disturbed by band crossings involving
neutrons and protons. Physical quantities for exploring the nature of the band
disturbance and the role of the single-particle are predicted, which
may be tested by new experiments with radioactive beams.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, accepted by Phys. Rev. C, Rapid Communicatio
Relativistic Continuum Hartree Bogoliubov Theory for Ground State Properties of Exotic Nuclei
The Relativistic Continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory, which properly
takes into account the pairing correlation and the coupling to (discretized)
continuum via Bogoliubov transformation in a microscopic and self-consistent
way, has been reviewed together with its new interpretation of the halo
phenomena observed in light nuclei as the scattering of particle pairs into the
continuum, the prediction of the exotic phenomena -- giant halos in nuclei near
neutron drip line, the reproduction of interaction cross sections and
charge-changing cross sections in light exotic nuclei in combination with the
Glauber theory, better restoration of pseudospin symmetry in exotic nuclei,
predictions of exotic phenomena in hyper nuclei, and new magic numbers in
superheavy nuclei, etc. Recent investigations on new effective interactions,
the density dependence of the interaction strengthes, the RMF theory on the
Woods-Saxon basis, the single particle resonant states, and the resonant BCS
(rBCS) method for the pairing correlation, etc. are also presented in some
details.Comment: 79 pages. Prog. Part. Nucl. Phys. (2005) in pres
ZC4H2, an XLID gene, is required for the generation of a specific subset of CNS interneurons
Miles-Carpenter syndrome (MCS) was described in 1991 as an XLID syndrome with fingertip arches and contractures and mapped to proximal Xq. Patients had microcephaly, short stature, mild spasticity, thoracic scoliosis, hyperextendable MCP joints, rocker-bottom feet, hyperextended elbows and knees. A mutation, p.L66H, in ZC4H2, was identified in a XLID resequencing project. Additional screening of linked families and next generation sequencing of XLID families identified three ZC4H2 mutations: p.R18K, p.R213W and p.V75in15aa. The families shared some relevant clinical features. In silico modeling of the mutant proteins indicated all alterations would destabilize the protein. Knockout mutations in zc4h2 were created in zebrafish and homozygous mutant larvae exhibited abnormal swimming, increased twitching, defective eye movement and pectoral fin contractures. Because several of the behavioral defects were consistent with hyperactivity, we examined the underlying neuronal defects and found that sensory neurons and motoneurons appeared normal. However, we observed a striking reduction in GABAergic interneurons. Analysis of cell-type-specificmarkers showed a specific loss of V2 interneurons in the brain and spinal cord, likely arising from mis-specification of neural progenitors. Injected human wt ZC4H2 rescued the mutant phenotype. Mutant zebrafish injectedwith human p.L66H or p.R213W mRNA failed to be rescued, while the p.R18K mRNA was able to rescue the interneuron defect. Our findings clearly support ZC4H2 as a novel XLID gene with a required function in interneuron development. Loss of function of ZC4H2 thus likely results in altered connectivity ofmany brain and spinal circuits
Space Telescope and Optical Reverberation Mapping Project. VII. Understanding the Ultraviolet Anomaly in NGC 5548 with X-Ray Spectroscopy
During the Space Telescope and Optical Reverberation Mapping Project observations of NGC 5548, the continuum and emission-line variability became decorrelated during the second half of the six-month-long observing campaign. Here we present Swift and Chandra X-ray spectra of NGC 5548 obtained as part of the campaign. The Swift spectra show that excess flux (relative to a power-law continuum) in the soft X-ray band appears before the start of the anomalous emission-line behavior, peaks during the period of the anomaly, and then declines. This is a model-independent result suggesting that the soft excess is related to the anomaly. We divide the Swift data into on- and off-anomaly spectra to characterize the soft excess via spectral fitting. The cause of the spectral differences is likely due to a change in the intrinsic spectrum rather than to variable obscuration or partial covering. The Chandra spectra have lower signal-to-noise ratios, but are consistent with the Swift data. Our preferred model of the soft excess is emission from an optically thick, warm Comptonizing corona, the effective optical depth of which increases during the anomaly. This model simultaneously explains all three observations: the UV emission-line flux decrease, the soft-excess increase, and the emission-line anomaly
The effect of transparency in trust in government: a cross-national comparative experiment.
Transparency is considered a key value for trustworthy governments. However, the effect of transparency on citizens’ trust across different national cultures is overlooked in current research. This article compares the effect of transparency on trust in government between the Netherlands and South Korea. The effect is investigated by two similar series of three experiments. We hypothesize that the effect of transparency differs, because both countries have different cultural values regarding power distance and short and long-term orientation. Results reveal similar patterns in both countries: transparency has a subdued and sometimes negative effect on trust in government. However, the negative effect in South Korea is much stronger. This implies a subdued and negative effect of transparency on trust in the short term in both countries. Nevertheless, the difference in the magnitude of transparency’s effect suggests that national cultural values play a significant role in how people perceive and appreciate government transparency
Multi-Stage Organic Logic Circuits Using Via-Hole-Less Metal Interconnects
Multi-metal interconnection is a crucial technology for the development of large-scale integrated circuits (ICs). However, organic semiconductors are not robust enough to be compatible with conventional lithography-and-etching-based via-forming methods. Thus, an alternative metal interconnect method is required for successful organic IC implementation. In-situ patterning of a dielectric polymer through a shadow mask while depositing in vapor phase possibly addresses the issues in both solvent susceptibility and process complexity. Here we report multi-stage organic logic circuits with a multi-level metal interconnection scheme based on patterned interlayer dielectrics via vapor phase deposition. We implement an exclusive OR circuit composed of four 2-input NAND gates and three-level metal interconnections to demonstrate the potential of the proposed solvent-free metal interconnection scheme.11Nsciescopu
