    Prosodic interference in maritime communication: nature and means of elimination

    The paper is devoted to the analysis of typical phonological mistakes made by Russian-speaking maritime cadets and the teaching tools enabling maritime English instructors to correct them and to improve the phonological competence of maritime students. Today, addressing the issues of foreign accent in the speech of maritime professionals, one cannot underestimate the importance of the correct implementation of the prosodic system of the language being studied, since the quality of the implementation of a coherent text is undoubtedly the result of the adequate use in speech of both segmented and suprasegmental language means, that is separate phonemes and intonation. The comparison of the requirements of the Model Course 3.17 in phonology with cadets’ test results assessment have displayed the phonological specificity of their accent which is allegedly caused by cross-cultural interference. The results of the study allow concluding that cognitive factors along with the prosodic system of the mother tongue belong to the interfering elements that cause phonological accent in speech in situations of professional communication, The main outcome of the research is determined by the opportunity to use the structured list of most typical prosodic errors in the process of forming cadets’ Maritime English competence

    This particular article relates to subtle electrical effects, and provides some evidence of a fundamental nature on how electromagnetic fields might be utilized to modify the molecular arrangements and activity of water.     Modeling of phase volume diffractive gratings, part 1: transmitting sinusoidal uniform gratings

    A detailed model of the diffraction of plane and Gaussian beams on plane uniform phase Bragg gratings based on Kogelnik\u27s theory of coupled waves is presented. The model describes transmitting gratings with arbitrary orientation in a plane-parallel plate taking into account spectral width and angular divergence of laser beams along with material dispersion of a photosensitive medium. The model results are compared with experimental data for high- efficiency Bragg gratings in a photothermorefractive (PTR) glass

    The Implementation of Energy-Saving Lighting Systems for Poultry Houses

    The provision of lighting in poultry shelters is an energy-intensive process in poultry farming, due to a lack of sunlight in closed facilities. Lighting plays an important role in the majority of organism biorhythms and it clocks the processes of vital activities of the birds. Lighting directly influences productivity, growth and sexual maturation of birds. A determining factor for the lifetime of an LED is the crystal heating temperature during its operation. It may be assumed that the LED lifetime is largely independent of the variation in the current passing through the LED (within the limits of its design values). The research objective was to conduct laboratory testing to compare the electricity consumption between the existing and a newly developed lighting system for poultry house no. 19 of the Kuchinsky Poultry Breeding Plant. In order to conduct the laboratory testing, the authors developed lighting fixtures consisting of sealed plastic bodies with an LED-carrying PCB inside. The testing continued for 113 days. The new system consumed 662 kWh, while the previous system consumed 783 kWh. Energy savings through the testing period amounted to 15%. During the testing, the new equipment was reliable; no failures of LED fixtures were recorded. Keywords: LED lighting, energy conservation, poultry farming, microclimat

    Breathing and switching cyclops states in Kuramoto networks with higher-mode coupling

    Cyclops states are intriguing cluster patterns observed in oscillator networks, including neuronal ensembles. The concept of cyclops states formed by two distinct, coherent clusters and a solitary oscillator was introduced in [Munyayev {\it et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. 130, 107021 (2023)], where we explored the surprising prevalence of such states in repulsive Kuramoto networks of rotators with higher-mode harmonics in the coupling. This paper extends our analysis to understand the mechanisms responsible for destroying the cyclops' states and inducing new dynamical patterns called breathing and switching cyclops' states. We first analytically study the existence and stability of cyclops states in the Kuramoto-Sakaguchi networks of two-dimensional oscillators with inertia as a function of the second coupling harmonic. We then describe two bifurcation scenarios that give birth to breathing and switching cyclops states. We demonstrate that these states and their hybrids are prevalent across a wide coupling range and are robust against a relatively large intrinsic frequency detuning. Beyond the Kuramoto networks, breathing and switching cyclops states promise to strongly manifest in other physical and biological networks, including coupled theta-neurons
