At school age, children already have the functionality and foot morphology of adult but have not yet completed skeletal maturity. This makes it a proper age for appropriate prevention and early diagnosis of musculoskeletal disorders of the feet and lower limbs. We conducted a cross-sectional study of prevalence for the health of the feet of the schoolaged children. 116 children have been assessed by clinical observation and a study of gait with a pressure platform. The most striking results were that 93% never had made a similar exploration, 95% had altered pressure distribution footprint, 75% showed some alteration in the dynamics (the most frequent excessive pronation phase propulsion) and the same percentage of children wearing shoes small size. More than half had an abnormal trace excessively pronated foot. Meanwhile, 40% had pain, 35% had pes cavus and flatfoot 10%. Finally, 32% had one forefoot pathology. The remaining changes were less frequent. We found a high prevalence of alterations so it is further evidence of the need for regular checks at this age to prevent complications and implement programs of health education

A Workflow for the Networked Ontologies Lifecycle. A Case Study in FAO of the UN

    Get PDF
This document shows a preliminary framework for editing networked ontologies in the context of the NeOn project. The goal is to manage, in a collaborative way, multiple networked ontologies for large-scale semantic applications. This paper shows the main concepts on the editorial workflow and several lifecycle use cases. The ontologies produced with this framework will be used by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in many different large applications such the Fisheries Stock Depletion Assessment System[4]. Therefore a major goal for FAO is to have a strong and reliable ontology management system for editing the networked ontologies that applications will use as a basis. This framework for editing networked ontologies is being developed in the context of the NeOn Project1. What we present here is a brief summary of the activities carried out in this project regarding user requirements and subsequent use case analysis

Do it yourself and do it to others. About publics and collections in libraries

The self-editions have given voice to those who have felt that they had something to say outside the established channels. That is why there is a tradition in the use of fanzines among queer communities, social movements, anarchisms, feminisms ... The artists discovered long ago that a book could be an artistic piece and now we have come upon an increasingly varied production of publications. There is a confluence between the self-published (or edited in the margins of hegemonic or official publishing or artistic productions) and the artistic intentionality that goes beyond the traditional idea of a book that has been a paradigm in libraries and bookstores. Books are no longer what they were, libraries either

Recognition of AMP, ADP and ATP through cooperative binding by Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes containing urea and/or phenylboronic acid moieties

[Abstract] We report a series of Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes with different ligands containing a dipicolyl unit functionalized with urea groups that may contain or not a phenylboronic acid function. These complexes were designed for the recognition of phosphorylated anions through coordination to themetal ion reinforced by hydrogen bonds involving the anion and NHgroups of urea. The complexes were isolated and several adducts with pyrophosphate were characterized using X-ray diffraction measurements. Coordination of one of the urea nitrogen atoms to themetal ion promoted the hydrolysis of the ligands containing 1,3-diphenylurea units, while ligands bearing 1-ethyl-3-phenylurea groups did not hydrolyze significantly at room temperature. Spectrophotometric titrations, combined with 1H and 31P NMR studies, were used in investigating the binding of phosphate, pyrophosphate (PPi), and nucleoside 50-polyphosphates (AMP, ADP, ATP, CMP, and UMP). The association constants determined in aqueous solution (pH 7.0, 0.1MMOPS) point to a stronger association with PPi, ADP, and ATP as compared with the anions containing a single phosphate unit. The [CuL4]2+ complex shows important selectivity for pyrophosphate (PPi) over ADP and ATP.Galicia. Consellería de Cultura, Educación e Ordenación Universitaria; EM 2012/08

Lead(II) complexes of lateral macrobicyclic receptors that incorporate a crown moiety and a pyridine head unit

[Abstract] The coordinative properties towards lead(II) of two lateral macrobicyclic receptors that incorporate either a 1,10‐diaza‐[15]crown‐5 (L7) or a 4,13‐diaza‐[18]crown‐6 (L8) fragment are reported. Spectrophotometric titrations performed in acetonitrile solution indicate only the formation of mononuclear complexes in solution. The X‐ray crystal structures of the two receptors show that the conformation adopted by the ligand is imposed by the presence of intramolecular hydrogen‐bonding interactions that involve the secondary amine groups and the pivotal nitrogen atoms. The solid‐state structure of [Pb(L7)(NCS)](SCN)·0.5H2O shows that the metal ion is asymmetrically coordinated inside the macrobicyclic cavity. The PbII ion is coordinated to the nitrogen atom of the pyridine unit, the two secondary amine atoms, two oxygen atoms of the crown moiety, and a nitrogen atom of an isothiocyanate group. The distances between the PbII ion and the two pivotal nitrogen atoms as well as one of the oxygen atoms of the crown moiety are too long (>2.92 Å) to be considered unequivocal bonds, and should be regarded only as weak interactions. The protonation constants of L7 and L8 as well as the stability constants of their PbII complexes were investigated by using potentiometric titrations in 95 % methanol (I = 0.1 M, nBu4NClO4, 25 °C). The two receptors undergo two protonation processes in the pH range investigated (2.0 < pH < 12.0), which correspond to the protonation of the nitrogen atoms of the oxa–aza moiety. The log KPbL value obtained for L7 [9.906(1)] is approximately 1.1 log K units higher than the one determined for L8 [8.75(1)].Xunta de Galicia; PGIDIT06TAM10301PRXunta de Galicia; INCITE09E1R103013E

First herpetofauna record of two protected areas of Santiago del Estero province (Argentina) Dry Chaco ecoregion is one of the largest remnants of dry forest in Latin America and has a very diverse herpetofauna. However, further studies are required for a deep knowledge of its composition and structure. Our objective was to perform an inventory of the herpetofauna in two natural areas of Dry Chaco of Santiago del Estero: Caburé Sur and Parque Provincial Copo. In the two protected areas we recorded 21 and 25 species of anurans and reptiles, respectively. According to the last Argentinean conservation assessment we found one threatened and five vulnerable species of reptiles in both protected areas. The inventory revealed that herpetofauna of the two protected areas of Santiago del Estero contains about 60% of the Dry Chaco herpetofauna. We report the presence of three new species for Santiago del Estero: Kentropyx viridistriga, Teius oculatus and Stenocercus doellojuradoi. We provide new information for future research and conservation actions on this ecoregion.Asociación Herpetológica Argentina (AHA

Geometry of the Proximal Phalanx of Hallux and First Metatarsal Bone to Predict Hallux Abducto Valgus: A Radiological Study

[Abstract] Background Hallux abducto valgus (HAV) is one of the most common forefoot deformities in adulthood with a variable prevalence but has been reported as high as 48%. The study proposed that HAV development involves a skeletal parameter of the first metatarsal bone and proximal phalanx hallux (PPH) to determine if the length measurements of the metatarsal and PPH can be used to infer adult HAV. Methods All consecutive patients over 21 years of age with HAV by roentgenographic evaluation were included in a cross-sectional study. The control group included patients without HAV. The study included 160 individuals. We identified and assessed the following radiographic measurements to evaluate HAV: the distances from the medial (LDM), central (LDC), and lateral (LDL) aspects of the base to the corresponding regions of the head of the PPH. The difference between the medial and lateral aspect of PPH was also calculated. Results The reliability of the variables measured in 40 radiographic films show perfect reliability ranging from 0.941 to 1 with a small error ranging from 0.762 to 0. Also, there were no systematic errors between the two measurements for any variable (P > 0.05). The LDM PPH showed the highest reliability and lowest error. Conclusion It is more suitable to measure the LDM PPH instead of the LDC PPH when calculating the hallux valgus angle based on our reliability results. When the differences of the medial and lateral PPH are greater, the risk for developing HAV increases
